  • What happened to the audio? With no audio, this video is worthless as tits on a boar hog.

  • Steve even looks slightly drunk here. Apparently he was. To play like that after a few tequilas... Love it. Maybe that's why Joe had to do the singing? ;-)

  • habulutrilulurrrirriiiplionplionwhaaauwhau x1000 km/s ... but i like it :D

  • ..and Joe can play much better than Steve.

    Sorry Steve.

  • @Kashmir70

actually, I doubt that satriani is a better player than steve lukather.

  • steven seagal on keyboard =D

  • @Jelchic He's put a bit of weight on!

  • @niptodstan haha yes XD

  • Satriani is a professional :)

  • steve lukather is guitar hero!!!

  • e Steve Lukather coloca Joe Satriane literalmente no bolso

    kkkk

  • GAAAAAAD DAMN!!!!!

  • Joe can play...no doubt about that, but heck...he can't sing !! Should have let Steve sing instead.

  • Ultimate guitar masturbation. Who is this guy Steve Lukather? I want to jam with satch to,but I'm not worthy yet, and I'm only getting older.

  • @420captain Who is Steve Lukather ??? You are kiddin', right ??! Steve is the lead guitarist and partly vocalist of TOTO, you know "Hold the Line", "Africa","Rosanna" etc. etc. etc.

  • @420captain Steve Lukather- one of the most underestimated musicians. Guy's a freaking genius. Listen to albums CANDYMAN, and ALL'S WELL, THAT ENDS WELL

  • @dodoro81 But I must say, that in this jam he acts totally show off

  • OK! This is not a lie! I recently heard on a interview he did on Australian radio that in this particular performance he had a little too many tequilas before the show...and if he new it was gonna be taped and put on youtube he wouldn't have drunk anything. Players don't always know when they're gonna be filmed so i dunno...cut him at least a bit of slack here?? He goes crazy on stage sometimes but i think he shines more in the studio:) I love both of them anyway!!

  • MY GOD! I WISH I was in the same room with the two of them! WOW!

  • @mgurski8 I've met them both.... Just sayin.

  • Steve L is the new Guitar God - I think he replaced Clapton!!

  • @meinwinnipeg Clapton is not the guitar God. That's what media says. We know he have many other who make Clapton sound like a drop in the ocean. Luke is one of them.

  • well, Steve doesnt play smart here.. shredding only

  • This video is so fun to watch. Both are amazing guitar players, one of the best in the world. It is normal for Lukather to shred when he plays with other guitar players, it's just the thing he does all the time. I don't know why, but it is important that he has fun. I really enjoyed watching this video. Hope I'll have a chance to see them both on the same stage. I kind of miss the times when Lukather used his Valley Arts Robot guitar. I'm trying to paint my guitar like his robot. :)

  • EXCELENTE APLICACION DEL BLUES MASTERS, MAGNIFIC PALOMAZO

    DONDE FUE?

  • Lukather is one of the most tasteful guitar players with killer phrasing and soul , why he is playing like that at this jam is mystery to me ?!

  • @lipeguitars

    maybe he is drunk...

  • @prutsikas yeah he is

  • who called lukather? respect for toto, but this is disgusting!

  • the two most great players.

  • both great players, but one thing is sure, steve can sing much better than joe :) sorry joe

  • Joe is reeeally scary without the sunglasses, looks like he is blind or in a transe...

i think he lives on a higher musical dimension,a spiritual musical reality

  • 6:47 I thought Steve was about to get a guitar Heart attack! You can only play so fast.

Super sonic Speed does not prove anything. The right soulful notes really penetrate through when played with real conviction. Steve is great but he didn't have to over do it...lol. It just looked funny when he over played that riff. If he balanced the fast runs with some slow bluesy runs it would have been real great!

  • @willieguitars Thats the thing about steve. In the studio, he's always rock solid. Live, he's sometimes hit or miss. In almost all the live toto shit, and most other, he's always got great improv stuff. I think like everytime he's playing with a more rock/shredder guy though (for example this, and the one with friedman) he ends up trying to pull out a bunch of unnecessary fast stuff and doesn't always work. 9/10 times when I see him, it's usually great.

  • 6:47 I thought Steve was about to get a guitar Heart attack! You can only play so fast.

  • Satch all the way, Luke got off key a little trying to compete with Satriani. Love the shredding but just a little tacky coming from a contemporary stand point. But satch is technical guitarist, and he's good at it why detour?

  • lukather rules.... mixolidian , aproch, simetrical etc....

    satriani boring....

  • These guys are both fantastic - just don't know why Lukather keeps apparently trying to show off...maybe that's just his style, but maybe he's trying to upstage Satriani...maybe even in a friendly way or something. Satriani seems to repeatedly back off for something more soulful

  • @dalisman It's cause he's playing with Satriani, who's crowd is usually full of more flash-playing fans. It's like the people that go to G3 shows, at least half of them just wanna see those guys burn it down. If you notice in alot of his live toto solos, or his stuff with lee ritenour or those guys, he doesn't go nearly over the top as he does in this.

  • se sale un poco de escala lukather y le falta un poco de gusto..la verda.

  • I just dont understand these Lukehaters. Just becauce he got success wih Toto? The album "luke" is full of bluesy feely tunes with solos to meet the structure. No overshredding, just humbly trying to get the simplicity.

  • 04:25,now i know why Satriani wear GLASSES,because he looks scary, his eyes get all white when he solos,he is dealing with spirits, ahahah, that is why he plays like that

  • I think they both like what the other is doing. You can see it their faces. Good tune!

  • Damn the title is a little misleading!

  • @FallenPrey33 Stop that!

  • @FallenPrey33 LMFAO!

  • ONLY LUKATHER, NO WAY!

  • They look like they're having the time of their lives up there... and that some wicked tapping and jamming

  • Oh, they have both huge respect for each other....and Luke have said that he was drunk beyond the recognition here......so I guess try to make competition from this, is a bit stupido...

  • Lukather? Satriani?

    No.

    ULI JON ROTH!

  • yeah but thats the point here I think, to just let loose and overplay for fun. Its like an old school garage jam for these guys, cram as many notes in as you can. After all the stiff sessions these guys do, it must be fun for these guys to just let it rip like a kid again. All guitar players know its hard to resist overplaying when jamming with the local hotshots. Thier no different from us , but better. Thats my take on this anyway. Just having fun.

  • I am huge Steve Lukather fan as well as a Joe fan but was disappointed to see him over playing in this one. I feel he is overwhelmed here and feels he has to go insane. Joe seems to be more comfortable "playing" the way he always does. What I appreciate about Joe is he knows what is required and never has to compete with anyone, it's too bad Steve feels he has to do that, he's way above that......

  • satch>lukather in this vid

  • Ok . . .

. . . after watching this a few times, and getting over the rush of seeing 2 of my biggest axe-heroes onstage together, I have to agree that Luke is ruining this by going too far with the insane shredding, instead of actually grabbing the opportunity to make it a great jam.

Still: Luke is an insanely great player with great sense of melody and feel, it just doesn't show in this clip.

  • Oh man, talk about tons of talent on one stage!!!

Luke and Satriani, both in my top 5 of players EVER!!!

    Kickass!!! \m/

  • rock - steve has the edge, my opion ?...smooth controlled rock to jazz licks, satch has it all the way :)...but still alittle different playing styles.....love them equal :):)

  • when steve is close to satch if that was me i'd be so paranoid because i hate other guitars clashing lol. just me though probs but this is a sick video

  • alle achtung vor beiden, wo war denn dass?

    meldet euch mal.

mal zusammen mit meiner hammond das wär geil.

nicht nur geil sondern soooooowas von geil.

    euer

    pete

  • i like the drumer

  • I think steve thinks its a competition. This just goes to show how underated Joe Satriani is. Lukather makes a fool of himself because he's threatened by Joe's sheer talent.

  • It's ridiculous....people bitching about who is better. It's not a pissing contest here! Like both of them - what's wrong with that? And then it's about opinion. Well, Satch plays better but can't sing or write songs like Luke can. Who cares? Enjoy it for what it is!

  • 6.55 is great, steve plays a load of crap and joe just comes back with some good old tone and feel. Great example of more notes isn't better all the time.....

  • Both these guys are top-notch guitarists. Climbing onstage to play with either would make most guitarists shake in their boots. I am, however, a bit surprised to see Lukather play the speed card over the substance. Steve is a fantastic player and should know better. But it also shows he's human and has insecurities like the rest of us. Art is not a competition. Slow down and paint the picture with broad determined strokes.

  • @randydean888 So, by your statement are you saying Joe is inhuman? I was suprised to find that Satch is older than Luke...but I don't keep up with birthdays.

  • @DickLodge68 , no. I never inferred that Satch was "inhuman". I meant Steve (like the rest of us) is human too. It just surprises me to see S.L., a top-notch well-known studio guitarist lose his grip and go Yngwie on Satch (who also seems a bit surprised).

  • @randydean888 Well, Satriani is human too (like the rest of us). I agree with you but cannot fault Luke. How many times have you over-stepped and faltered when playing with an obviously better player? When it's on video, when everyone can dissect every note, then everyone becomes a critic. Sure, Lukather went over-board. But you can't blame him for trying.

  • @DickLodge68 , My point is that BOTH players are top-notch players (I never said one was "better" than the other, nor did I saw either was not human), except Luke drops the ball by making it into a competition rather than a tasteful showcase of guitar playing. I would expect a player of Steve Lukather's caliber to be able to climb onto a stage and be able to "play nicely" with another of comparable caliber.

  • fucking morans ! don't You know that Lukather was after 12 tequillas and in the beginning He's been only watching Satrani's playing? Satriani invited him on the stage, it wasn't planned !!! it was spontanious playing ! so stop fucking around ! I know cause I was there

  • Comment removed

  • @MultiMegaPLAYER Did Satch just happen to have one of Lukes sig guitar there then? Dont get me wrong Im a life long toto fan and a massive massive luke fan. But he wouldnt just by chance have his guitar there and a whole other set up just for him purely by chance.

  • fucking morans ! don't You know that Lukather was after 12 tequillas and in the beginning He's been only watching Satrani's playing? Satriani invited him on the stage, it wasn't planned !!! so stop fucking around ! I know cause I was there

  • Both are kings of rock with some alien's melodies in their kingdom of guitars !

  • Steve is a killer player! but... he did go over "wank" on this vid... everything he played was like he was on hyperdrive... never stopped for air! Damn Steve! put some space between those notes once in a while! Satch, killer all round!

  • @StratocastLesPaul he did the same thing when he jammed w/ beck & Santana...he just shredded mindlessly and jumped around like he was the new easter bunny, it was surprising to see him like that.

even beck was trying to contain his laughter standing next to him.. Steve seems to get a bit too excited when he doing these jam sessions.. Satch is not even listening to his crap.

  • it would be heave been bether if he would joust his vally art robot on this one this guitar the black guitar sucks the robot rules for ever

  • Lukather did himself no favours here, he tried to beat satch with yngwies game ; ) he should stick to playing beautiful soulful solos! lukather is really amazing i just wish he'd played to his strengths in this vid, half the people dissing lukather probably haven't heard why he is such an amazing guitarist, ignore this vid and go listen to toto!

  • @TheLydianRocks i agree i am dissing him with your thoughts in mind he needs to stick to his strengths,

its like he becomes a diff player when he jams w/ other greats..i guess he is intimidated no other answer & he is trying to hide it by smiling & jumping around & playing like a shred head

  • SATRIANI !!! Yes, Is the best :)

  • you guys can.t see they are bros an all you trash talkers are talking like a bunch of hoes now enjoy the tunes jeez

  • elgrande - you're such an idiot....read what you typed....you're sooooo 12 year old. just enjoy the music or go finish you're HOMEWORK and chores

  • @MrMackem01 Yeah, you're sooooo right!!!!

  • I love Steve's studio work, but he seems like such a wanker when it comes to jamming with others. It's almost like he's trying too hard.

    Joe is so tasteful.

  • negative comments to steve r from the People that dont understand what Music is all about..learn how to play guitar before you say something..okay????

  • The difference lies in Satriani´s big heart , i don´t know what lukather has in his breast. Even on his mind. At that level who cares about training??, music is not a juggling act... If you can see, Joe is always saying something from the inside. Steve is a well trained music teacher, but as an artist just make me remember "Rossana". That song is the shape of his mind and heart...

  • Hey guys, the video title says Steve Lukather AND Joe Satriani, not Steve Lukather VS Joe Satriani. It's music. Get over yourselves and pull your heads out of your asses.

  • I thought Steve was a good guitar player but WTF! whaha this was just embarrassing....

  • satriani is surfing with the alien.

  • Joe's playing is so much better in Lukather here!

  • Steve is technically amazing... and very clean - but he lacks so much depth - based on this video. Joe can play like that but chooses to play melodically and lyrically - where as steve is making white noise. I haven't seen much of Steve's playing but so far I don't see the melody - he has chops no doubt, but music is about so much more than that.

  • does any one know why Joe uses that stupid beanie?

  • Comment removed

  • Satriani sucks besides Lukather, come on, Lukather makes music and Satriani makes solos

  • @rodrigodlm rofl , the only thing Lukather plays here is just trrrrrrrrlrrrlrrrrrrlrlrllrlrrl and thats music yeah right -.-

  • @rodrigodlm Well that combination goes well together dont you think?

  • @rodrigodlm YOU PROBABLY DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT GUITARISTS LUKATHER IS GOOD BUT DOESN'T PLAY AT THE SAME LEVEL THAT SATRIANI DOES BESIDES SATRIANI IS A WAY BETTER IMPROVISER THAN LUKATHER EVEN THOUGH LUKATHER IS A BETTER SINGER

  • @elgrande1987 You're a dipshit.

  • @shlokda OK WHY I'M I A DIPSHIT BECAUSE I'M SAYING THE TRUTH ASSHOLE GO SUCK A DICK OR SOMETHING

  • @elgrande1987 What's "grande" about you, stupid motherf*cker. You wouldn't be able to tell a guitar from a horses ass!!! Both are magnificent guitarplayers, and if you want to talk aboiut sucking dick: you're not even worth thinking about licking their boots, let alone sucking their dicks. LEAVE US MUSICLOVERS ALONE, WILL YA!!!

  • @tinowent LOOK YOU PIECE OF SHIT IF YOU THINK I DON'T KNOW WHAT A GUITAR IS LIKE JUST CHECK OUT MY VIDEOS I'LL JAM YOU ANY TIME SO YOU COULD SUCK MY DICK AND FOR YOUR INFORMATION I LOVE SATRIANI BEEN HIS FAN FOR MANY YEARS ASSHOLE I NEVER SAID LUKATHER SUCKED HE'S GOOD BUT NOT AS GOOD AS SATRIANI YOU FUCKING IGNORANT PIECE OF SHIT

  • @elgrande1987 I checked your channel, and I had to throw up. These are really sickening guitar licks....... Don't ever comment on one of the true guitar masters again, you clown! The only thing you're good at, is bad language!!

  • @tinowent ok fuckeR YOU WISH YOU PLAY AT MY LEVEL YOU ROBABLY HAVEN'T EVEN PASSED THE PENTATONICS OLD BASTARD THATS WHY YOUR CHANNEL DOESN'T EVEN HAVE HALF THE VIEWS MINE GOT SO GO FUCK YOUR SELF

  • @elgrande1987 I fucked myself, and I liked it a lot more than these shitsounds you are producing...... hahaha donkey's dong!!!!!

  • @tinowent OK PIECE OF SHIT YOU PROBABLY THREW UP BECAUSE YOUR PATHETIC AND YOU WISH YOU COULD EVEN REACH THE LEVEL I'M AT DIPSHIT ANY TIME YOU WANNA JAM YOU PROBABLY HAVEN'T EVEN COME OUT OF THE PENTATONICS YOU SAD BASTARD AND I DON'T GIVE A FUCK WHAT YOU THINK SERIOUSLY SO GO SUCK A DICK SON OF A BITCH

  • Comment removed

  • @tinowent WHATEVER YOUR JUST AN OLD FUCK WHO DID NOTHIN WITH HIS LIFE BUT STEAL OXYGEN FROM OTHER PEOPLE SO STOP DOIN IT MOTHERFUCKER AND JUST DIE!!!

  • @elgrande1987 Hey Lowlife. What exactly is your IQ?!!

  • @tinowent EY MOTHERFUCKER CAUSE YOU KNOW THAT WHAT I SAID BEFORE WAS RIGHT YOUR JUST AN OLD FART SO TAKE A WALK

  • As great as Steve Lukather is (and he IS one of the greatest), he's not a blues guy. Satriani is. Way-more-comfortable playing bluesy stuff than Steve, who's been doing the shred thing for the last twenty years. For blues, Joe is better than Vai, Eric Johnson, Yngwie Malmsteen, and lots of other guys he's shared the stage with over the years. Joe knows blues (and not to toot my own horn, but so do I).

  • @gangtwanger totally right but i think Eric plays good blue, jazz too

  • @gangtwanger im pretty good with blues too. its more a style that you have to be trained in. Ive been taught with bad co and pink floyd for the past 6 years, and the blues seems to come naturally :)

  • @Yannikage when did joe consider steve to be the best player?

Guys lets not be so mindless here as to not notice the obvious... Joe's solos and phrasing were wayy more mature than lukather's here...

  • Usually I like Steve... But on the blues part, he is pathetic. "Look how fast I can play" and some aweful licks.

  • La deuxieme partie est bien meilleure, quand ils partent en blues et se laissent aller, je trouve que là on voit le talent, le phrasé, le son.

  • I still love this every time I watch it. Who cares if Satriani is better than Lukather - they're both brilliant here and they've both clearly got a lot of respect for each other. And they've having some much fun, too!! Brilliant. Satch's solo from 08.44 -beautiful...!

  • They are BOTH masters of the guitar, just in different ways!

  • What you talking about? Lukather vs Satriani? Who is better...Ferrari or Lamborghini? Kids go to school.

  • @montenegrolightman Who cares who is better man. That's a pretty subjective thing to talk about, not to mention a pretty childish thing to argue over. It's rock n roll and as long as you like it and it's good, that's all that matters.

  • @IBRockin I agree with your every word. It is also the point of my comments. By the way these two are my favorite guitar players along with Pat Metheny. ... I hope you understand.

  • @IBRockin Exactly bro! As Eddie Van Halen once said "If it sounds good IT IS GOOD!" :-) Everybody has their own style.

  • When Steve is drunk he tends to overdo it but both players have incredible fun. Btw, Joe considers Steve as the best player in present times so he won't be offended by Steve shoing ofv a bit. Steve played hubdreds of songs where he played tastfully. This was just a freakin' party. Just admire both players assholes!!

  • @Yannikage when did joe consider steve to be the best player?

Guys lets not be so mindless here as to not notice the obvious... Joe's solos and phrasing were wayy more mature than lukather's here...

  • People need to chill about this "whose better?" argument. Everyone has a right to like one guitarist more than another, so there's no need to take offense.

  • Lukather, satriani and stevie ray Vaughan, ...everyone else eat dust

  • I can't agree more with Mowac, trying to compare between this two guitar heroes is for assh....s. These are guitar players of amazing talent, different techniques, styles, etc.. But music is far beyond competition, is about to share and enjoy playing and this guys are giving quite an example....

  • im sorry, someone fucking punch lukather............

    no wait, im not sorry.

  • i truly enjoyed that!!!! what a blast.newer guitarist need to watch this!!!!!

  • Its a shame joe is so humble and didnt destroy this arrogant moron.

At 6:53 Joe says "Whats that?"

The answer is fucking terrible noise!

If i was in the audience i would have taken that guitar off him and smashed it

  • @lmhjs1000 Lukather wins Flawless Victory

  • What an embarrasment Lukather is...

  • steve reminds me of nigel tufnell here. Quite funny as you near the end with Satch trying to make him play a bit more tastefully.

  • Whats the dynamics of these?

  • Comment removed

  • I can't believe Lukather was pushing Joe like that!?!? Actually trying to shove him to the side! After getting him to stand next to him...

Not long after that, during one of Steve's mental shreds (not following any scale, just... hitting loads of notes) You can see Joe mouth; "Whats that?!" lol!!!

And then once Steve has finishing his solo (totally trying to drown Joe out) he tries to get the band to stop with him before Joe gets a chance to shred!!

Plus he kept leaning on Joe...

  • Comment removed

  • heard this song before by Chicken Shack.... but its allright ok good one

  • balls out good time.

  • at 6:47, Steve says, "who's your daddy"!

  • @geetarnut Looks more like "Whats that" too me... I could be wrong though...

  • @geetarnut AT is great but Joe rules. Sorry dude....but when nature blends an Alien with a spider...all comers are doomed to fall short.

Satchifunkilus is REAL -- and you just got bit.

  • Un Antojo

  • what the problem? whe have two guitar monster! one big singer and complete musician(luke) and 2nd (satriani) monster player; monster composer!! talk about this!!!

  • joe is drunk

  • in 6:13

  • watch how lukather push out joe, he is trying to show himself off or something : /

poor joe having to go through that

  • The music was kinnda gone at some point?

  • Satriani was like, what is that? Lol

  • What scale is lukather doing? Fucked up minor? Lol

  • I'm sure that every guitarist mentioned (Yngwie, Satriani, Luke) isn't a joke. But you MindMaestro surely are.

  • Satch has must better tone, clarity and feeling. Felt like Steve was in too much of a rush with a darker, mellower tone.

  • Comment removed

  • is steve constipated...he is awful and sloppy and he actually thinks hes good..lol

  • its hard to tell who is worse...the singing was the best part of this garbage..and the singer was awful!

  • heck out this video and the old school boys can bring a little heat of there own

JEFF BECK CARLOS SANTANA STEVE LUKATHER

  • Lukather is more old school than Satriani as Satriani is more technically trained. I wish folks would quit judging these guys like there at a pecker measuring contest. Lukather has done lots of session work for other artist other than Toto such as the Tubes, Michael McDonald, Boz Scaggs, countless others. Satriani coached Steve Vai and Kirk Hammet. To say one is better than the other is clearly irrelevant. My only advice to Satriani, never let him sing on his own songs EVER!

  • @Mowac This isn't one of Satch's songs! Not sure who wrote it but there's several vids on here of Jeff Beck and SRV (such as watch?v=2UIptI2rcjg )

  • @Mowac these guys are both great in their own ways.. i don't know why people diss luke.. i think luke has that awesome riffs too especially the solo he did for the song rosanna.

  • @Mowac for 1, satch is not more technically trained thats bull shit

  • @bengrockson " In 1974, Satriani studied music with jazz guitarist Billy Bauer and with reclusive jazz pianist Lennie Tristano. The technically demanding Tristano greatly influenced Satriani's playing. Satriani began teaching guitar, with his most notable student at the time being fellow Long Island native Steve Vai. While he was teaching Vai, he was attending Five Towns College for studies in music."

.........as you were saying? I know what I'm talking about.

  • @Mowac idc, i know what im talking about, there both incredibly technical players, i have hung with both of these players, you have no idea what kind of work lukather has done in the studio, and since you have never been a high playing studio players, you don't know the level, my dad is a very well known music producer, and i have been in the room Manny times watching studio players its a whole new level

  • @Mowac That's a BS statement. Neither has formal musical education and technical training other than having been under the tutelage of some very well-regarded musicians. Joe studied under Lennie Tristano, and Luke under Jimmy Wyble. Even worse, you said Lukather was "old school", yet he's the younger of the two. Get your facts straight. It's pointless to compare the two on who's "more technically trained."

  • I've watched most of the vids with steve playing with other guitarist and it seems like even when it's their gig he try's to steal the show...but here he doesn't steal a thing and Joe keeps his cool and plays with feeling the whole time.

  • I can't believe Lukather is trying to bring on the competition with Satriani - I'd love to see him vrs Malmsteen. Satch uses dynamic phrasing with interesting harmony while Lukather just wanks with boring scaly patterns, its like learn guitar volume 2 played super fast.

  • both are good..but i my self as guitarist Luke has a lot of fluid and versatility, he made a lot of timeless music, in diffrent' genre and the a lot of style jazz' R'n B pop with a tiuch of Rock.

Satch is a virtuoso that i respect his style, dynamic, many said he shared few picking techniq to steve vai..but vai gone so far now yet sacth speed stuck on his age.

  • i can't believe satriani is over 50 now. he looks like he's in his 30s.

  • come on luke whne you play with other guitarrist you always try to show your speed, i know that when you re alone you can rock da fuckin house as always ,you just have to improvise as you do in your records =/

  • The questions is, at what point did Lukather realize this was a bad decision?

  • as we can all see, this is very boring music, congrats to the ones who could make it listening to the fat guy's crap all night long

  • dan you are on the money!!!!!

  • danhufff you are on the money!!!!

  • @lafn2ru Cheers man, good to see someone else who has taste in regards to musicianship and lukather.
