Make sure you're at least covered via FDIC. I think we're going to see a lot of bank failures. Or you could get OUT of the banking system, and directly hold treasury securities, bear funds, and precious metals. It wasn't a theory (euro) back in the 90's - only in america was it considered a theory. I was in Italy (Rome) back in that time frame and every italian knew it was coming. I remember very well the brass plates placed on the sidewalks along the streets of Rome with the insignia of the coming euro. Cramer called 1,500 gold so he can attempt to have some kind of credibility at the end of the year. It's hard to imagine someone so bullish on stocks being bullish on gold to. Make sure you're at least covered via FDIC. I think we're going to see a lot of bank failures. Or you could get OUT of the banking system, and directly hold treasury securities, bear funds, and precious metals. keep it coming, I am a starving realtor in the Midwest. But every extra penny I get I am stocking up on grains, rice, beans, etc. I cant seem to find affordable silver and gold. but I know it is coming. Everything you say makes 100% sense. TY for posting.

I didnt think about how voting for a president like Ron Paul would actually strengthen the dollar... This is an interesting concept but I would have to agree with what you are saying. Since this is not going to happen, I could totally see the oposite being true by voting for a weak president detrimental for our dollar. I could see Hillary or Obama crashing the dollar with negative words for our dollar.

DOW theory has already confirmed that this is a major bear market. But socionomics teaches us that the first rally (primary wave 2) always fools people into thinking that the prior trend is resuming. As you point out, conventional wisdom is always wrong (this is a long discussion that I'd like to have).
Wave 3 down is coming within the next few months, and that's when we'll see a major collapse in the S&P.

I expect that Subprime consumer lending and credit card is the next phase. The burst is going to be bigger than subprime mortgage lending. USA and UK have the biggest problems.

The massive credit expansion is over. The fed is basically going to back and fund all the mortgages from here on out. So the dollar will be backed by mortgages LOL
This party is just getting started; we still have option arms, more subprime, alt-a mortgages, credit cards, auto loans, and pay day loans. Credit card defaults are now at a 20 year high. Convention would be 1 in a million shot since McCain has the delegate count. He would have to be caught with his pants down at this point, literally. Food is number one when it comes to preparation. I imagine the first 6 months will be a mess. Senior citizens will probably have it the worst, dying in the masses. Especially in Desert and cold areas.

Gmoney415-It sounds extreme, but we have to remember were living in a fake economy. Once the dollar goes to its true value (Zero) and the credit expansion ends. It will unravel very fast, all imported food and products will cease. The U.S. 70% consumer society will be unable to consume. It's hard to say exactly when, I don't know how long the fuse is, but I do know the fuse has been lit. Since the inflation were exporting is reaching a boiling point, were probably looking at 1st Q 2009.

Gmoney- The markets have fully priced in a summer recovery. It's not going to come, I promise you. I'm looking at the real CPI, Unemployment, and GDP from Shadowstats. It's much worse than the fake numbers the gov puts out. Shadowstats uses the pre-1996 math, so it's not some conspiracy site, it's just a site that keeps track of the old numbers. Were entering severe inflation and a massive collapse of a constant credit expansion economy. Were going to see civil unrest in 9-18 months.

Media is the most to blame. Ron Paul kept beating Giuliani in early primaries, but got no press. He out raised Thompson, Huckabee, and all the other little ones, but media ignored him. Plenty of blame, but really doesn't matter since were looking down the barrel at this point. I would say the collapse MVP nominees are FDR, Nixon, Bush, and Greenspan.
