I have to write... Kate Bush is such a talent, or I must said is a true genius in her own class... she is able to fuse all elements into one song (,singing, dancing, visual effects, emotions and story line) at a tender age of 19 yrs old... her performing style is one of the kind in this word... true genius of the 70s.
Yes she was great, so gifted for such a young girl and with such a great vocal range !!
There is a young french lady who has sent me a friends invitation who does covers on youtube of Kate, she does army dreamers very well . I will send you her link when I get a chance , bye for now .
She knew where she was going with that performance , all for the tv forget about the couple of hundred in the crowd she knew where the real public was , and to think she was just a 20 year old kid , amazing
Do not be dismayed about the lip-syncing. In this case she chose to perform a beautiful and sensual dance instead of singing into a mic. If you wish to see her sing it live and play the piano simultaneously during this time frame, there is at least one 1978 vid where she does so.
@Jouwl Back then if the artist was on tour or appearing live in concert on stage then people played and sang live but for a TV appearance to promote the latest single, which is what this is, then everybody mimed. No-one thought anything of it. It was enough that the artist appeared in person, indeed miming meant that you got exactly what you heard on the record, which was the whole point.
@Jouwl Everyone who's anyone has lipsynced at some stage - although it was often against their wishes. In fact, it was the television programs the stars appeared on which required a recording to be used. In those days, live performances had a higher chance of something going wrong. Also the equipment didn't provide a very good sound through television - nowhere near as good as it is now. So, essentially, it was all down to the technical limitations of the time rather than the artists' wishes
@bellaisobella If you'd looked on other footage, and been around at the time of this release, you would have seen/heard her sing this just the same. So.....no. She didn't mime all the time. Check out the footage by 'fritz51304' and you'll see. Miming only took place on Top Of The Pops. Kate Bush always appeared to be opposed to it.
One should never make that imposition of hands which makes Kate Bush runs the risk of any energy you suck the energy vampires do not see him very well protected if you do not manage well esoteric issues do not get Christ's blood and body protection
Wonderful Kate Bush broke the mould with her performance when she wrote ,sung and perfumed this masterpiece of a song.So different to the plastic girl groups of today created by Simon Cowell etc .Kate was so many things rolled into one.Artistic, creative, mystic, unusual looking ,fantastic dancer, strange and unusual looking ,a willowy flexible body, great big eyes and a voice that could not be copied .She has a great vocal range ranging from deep to very high !!
For information check with Wikipedia Wuthering Heights ( song)
Kate composed this song at the age of 18 after seeing the 1970 film of Wuthering Heights ,she was inspired by the last ten minutes of the film. She read the book and discovered she shared the same birth date with the author Emily Bronte,30th July.
The Song was for her debut album ' The Kick Inside' released 6 January 1978.
The guitar solo at the end was not played by David Gilmour, but by Ian Bairson !!
@lovemetu Ian Bairnson, not bairson. Dave Gilmour did in fact play guitar on "Love and Anger" and "Rocket's Tail" (see the video for Love and Anger, he appears in it)
Your comment lead me to research much about this song .
Evidently Kate's was called Cathy in her youth. She wrote her first song at the age of 13 .Her talent was noted by a family friend who played her demo tape to Pink Floyds David Gilmour, who helped her get a deal with EMI. Emi paid for her to learn to dance, mime and refine her song writing skills and other usefull skills .
Her melodramatic adaptation of Emily Bronte's tale of doomed love on the windswept moors is quite unique
@lovemetu well think mister millionaire gilmour could do a lot for her ;-) and ofcourse there must have been something special ;-) but thanks for researchanyway ;-) bye
I like classical music and opera along with Kate Bush, the beatles and many others from the 60s onwards .
I think that much of modern music is complete dross.
Pretty girl groups ,boy groups Rap is music for those with no taste, the words spoken in boring monotone voices ,eg Beyonces husband JZ .
Simon Cowell created rip offs. There is a gross song and video on youtube by '' The lonely Island '' called ''Jizz in my pants'' .....result 90 million views !!
After a quick glance at your channel it would seems that we share some similar taste's. I also love Kate Bush, the kinks and Monty Python and also most of the videos you have . I suppose its the era we come from, I cant stand some of the modern music though, the simon cowell x factors, rap etc. When I was a teenager the beatles were very big so I suppose that they were my first love. Now I am mainly into classical, my new love is Sarah Chang the american/korean violin vituoso !!
@lovemetu Seems we do have similar tastes.I like classical music too. I was a fan of Kates right from the beginning. When I saw her sing wuthering heights on Top of the pops way back in 1978.I could see then she was in a different class from the rest.Completely original, even in that era of punk rock. She is unique and her music has and will stand the test of time .After all were still listening to the Beatles over 50 years after they broke up, and Kate 33 years after she first started.
Thanks for your nice message and offer of friendship which I gladly accept. Hope to do a few video shares with you in the future, perhaps tomorrow I will send you a Sarah Chang one to see if you like her performance, Best Wishes Lovemetu
I've always find this is a unique song. Kate is so gracious, a symbol of feminine.
Yesterday I google the song's name and found out that it was writen based on a novel from 1847, which made the song even special for me... Thank you Kate. God bless you.
oh wow,i fell in love with her in 1978 & have loved her ever since, especially when she sings the word GWEEDEE, instead of greedy,,,,,,,adorable.xxxxx
The closest to KB we have today are Alison Goldfrapp and Natasha Khan (Bat For Lashes) but Kate was so young! I think she was 18 when this was released!
