Well, I found this Laurent Voulzy after hearing the Cloud 9 similarity also. And yeah, the bad news is the intro, verse, and lead-in to the chorus are too close for accident. (not to mention the harmonica solo) But Cloud 9's beautiful chorus is quite a bit different from Une Heroine.

And the good news is, it's nice to find out about a cool French artist. I like Une Heroine very much!

@TwiliPrincessWolf yoko kanno is known for sampling other people's music, she almost always credits them somewhere in her albums though. She's open about how she works, she makes brilliant covers and usually betters the original in my very humble opinion.

with all the pain of my heart i have to agree, "cloud 9" MUST be some kind of plagiarism of this french song, doesnt matter taht cloud 9 is more elegant and resolves itself in a different way, i cant deny that the chorus and the introduction are almost identical. i also have to say that i prefer cloud 9, tha beat is a little faster, the harmonies are more complex and the lyrics are deeper, is something like Simply Red song Sunrise.

yeah,it sounds like cloud 9 , but cloud 9 sounds more refined,thanks to kanno yoko. good thing people can't copyright sound waves, otherwise we wouldn't have any of these good sonngs.

It really is an excellent series, with beautiful music (it came out in about 2002?) While cloud nine..err..obviously "used" alot of this song :/(I do like how it is more "refined" though, and it isn't COMPLETELY the same.), most of Yoko kanno's works are truly her own, works of genius. :)

@Kyonkyonpanda I don't think so. I understand your attitude to her as a fan, but as a composer, I already found so many 'copies' by YK. 'Her' Cloud 9 is almost exact copy of this song (with some variations). Just a different version. And there many exist. They are too many, so it's serious, whether or not musical talent she has.

Well, the begging of both songs sound similar... but what else besides the intro is similar? For me, they are completely different songs with similar intros. Similar intros in songs all over the place.

Yes, you already mentioned the beginning tune is similar... While the verse and chorus differ melodically, they are still modified from the original... Notice that Kanno used the same climb (part before the chorus)--1:20 in "Une Heroine" and 1:35 mark for "Cloud 9... And don't forget that both songs have a harmonica solo in the middle... Yes, they are different songs but not completely... It's pretty obvious like an elephant in a livingroom that "Cloud 9" is modified from "Une Heroine"...

I agree with almost everything you said, but "Cloud 9" is BASED on this song (like you said, undeniably), but it's not a copy (copied and based on are not the same, though still a shame). Both songs deliver things differently.

I was kinda dissaspointed after learning of all her others songs which are also based on something else. But she is awesome anyway.
