Teena Brandon did not have enough time to fully accept what gender she/he wanted to be, also she didn't have enough time to consider having a sex change either. When the rape was filed, she used her real name and identified herself as a "female". You choose to call her/him Brandon Teena, I call her Teena Brandon because of the events that led to her death.

I will admit though that the film does have some facts from the real case and some of it has been put in to make the movie more dramatic for eg Lana wasn't there when the real murders occured she was no where near let alone witnessed it , the character of Candace was based on the real victim Lisa Lambert who was a friend of Brandons but did not hang around with the gang that Lana and Brandon hung around in like it was made out in the film . Also there was a third murder victim in reality

when I first saw this movie I was around 10 and i didn't really understand what the movie was about cuz i had never seen anything like it before. but I new that I strongly identified with brandon, and i didn't even know what was really going on there with him. I will always remember this movie as the first step that got me to believe in what I felt inside!

@Tornado1994 Brandon Teena was not confused about who he was. And calling him by his birthname and "she" is insulting to his memory and calling any FTM by "she" for that matter. He preferred the use of male pronouns and going by Brandon. He felt inside like he was a man and wanted to project that on the outside, but he was born in the wrong body, he felt male. I suggest you look up the word transgender. There's also MTF male to female transgenders, and FTM female to male transgenders.

I will admit though that the film does have some facts from the real case and some of it has been put in to make the movie more dramatic for eg Lana wasn't there when the real murders occured she was no where near let alone witnessed it , the character of Candace was based on the real victim Lisa Lambert who was a friend of Brandons but did not hang around with the gang that Lana and Brandon hung around in like it was made out in the film . Also there was a third murder victim in reality

This is one of the saddest storys I have ever heard, I've seen " Boys don't cry " a few times and it really saddens me and angers me at the same time. All Brandon wanted to was love and be loved , everyone deserves that. He felt he was a man in every way except the physical and I've seen the documentry on here about how he treated his girlfriends , they all said that he treated them like they wanted to be treated , he showered them with love and affection.

when I first saw this movie I was around 10 and i didn't really understand what the movie was about cuz i had never seen anything like it before. but I new that I strongly identified with brandon, and i didn't even know what was really going on there with him. I will always remember this movie as the first step that got me to believe in what I felt inside!

May Brandon rest in peace, and his soul eternally rest. i think he was an amazing person though i never met him, and has had a big struggle to go through. i think this story teaches us a lesson that it doesnt matter what you prefer in life or how you act, its on the inside that counts. this should help to tell families that you should always try to help and understand one another because you never know what can happen tomorrow. I saw the movie "Boys Don't Cry" For those of you who never heard of it, it's based on Brandon Teena's life w/ Hillary Swank in it. It's sad but it's very powerful. I support the LGBT community 100%. They are still people no matter what.
