  • Your channel is just brilliant....I should have subscibed this earlier...!!

  • @ howtoarchitect can you please give examples for reason #6?.Also what do you think of architectural technologists and technicians?.

  • @yoyoyoy500 ...Architecture is A Process. You can apply Architecture to anything; Music (based on layers of construction), Photography (How you see things), Fashion Designer (Forms), Urban Planner (Vision), many maore....Start looking "into" the definition of Architecture, instead of looking "at" the definition....

  • Is it just beauty that compensates for inadequacies? is it there subjectivism behind beauty? who can judge a building better, an architect or its user? what do you want as a designer, to make people live better through your buildings or have your building taken over from people so that they establish a better living? Is it architecture that survives or what it brings to light?

  • great video! great reasons :D

  • Hi, i have a question i am in high school and i want to become an architect. but my drawing skills are not very good, i keep on trying to draw but i continue to fail. whats the best way to improve? - thanks

  • @DrGodzirra

Hi I am a graduate student in architecture school. I also had that problem. I am still learning how to draw what I want to express. Although people may tell you that everything is on the computer so don't worry about it, I wold disagree with the whole computers only thing. When drawing: slow down, don't rush, for now use a ruler to help with straight edges, learn how to draw the basic shapes and figure out where the shadows are. Ruler, shapes, shadows. Just to start!!!

  • so i'm a girl and i'm in high school, and i really want to be an architect, but some people are bringing me down about it, and i need help cuz i don't know what to do

  • i wish this applied to me, but I'm a women, ah dammit

  • Thank you very much for the subtitles.

  • Hey Doug Patt i have been watching your videos for the past year and a half and you have inspired me to peruse and study architecture. I wanted to thank you very much and keep the videos coming

  • Architecture is an extremely demanding degree - If you enjoy having some kind of a life then I wouldn't encourage studying it....! :(

  • inspiring as always

  • As a student, with loads of design pressure on my head, i wonder why did i choose this career of architecture. But then it was my own decision independently.

Reading "The Fountainhead", listening to inspiring quotes from my Professors saying "you are an architect" and ultimately your videos, boost my energy and self esteem. I'm proud that i am one among the many who say "I AM AN ARCHITECT" (yeah..i am not yet, but one day i'm gonna say that)

  • I'm 16, and I am great in art, mathematics, and physics. As a logical thinker, i believe all of my traits point to the field of architecture as a good career choice. I love the idea of designing massive structures that will last for centuries. The problem is that i feel i am lacking the passion. Currently we are doing a house-design assignment in art class, but not much excitement is sparking for me. The question is, will my passion develop, or should i already be drawing buildings as a hobby?

  • @alexpro00red3 architecture will be a great path for you. passion is something that comes and go and the more you study the intracity of architecture your passion will grow. Architecture is also very board so dont think of it as designing a house its so much better. im currently studying it in new zealand and loving it.

  • I could spend hours on a drawing just to make the perfect imperfect

  • This is my dream job for many years now. Soon , I will have to apply for colleges which is really stressful for me because I might not get into the college that I want. It's either architecture, design, graphic design, technical design, or english and art history (and I really hope not the last one) So wish me luck :) Great video, you really do Inspire me. Thank you for that :)

  • All architects do is draw! Most of the work science and math is done by Civil Engineers. Architects don't even know basic math (sarcasm but true) There were times when people used to laugh at them. He made architects look so good in this video lol

  • I was wasting time on Youtube as I had work to do on the same computer when I stumbled upon your video in my subscription bar.

Anyway, you always put me back on the right track... I think your videos are great in how they remind us architecture students of our goal.

    Thank you M. Patt.

  • @AwesomeCoasters I believe his name is Doug :)

I don't just want join one but I want to get involved with the frat. Do you think it is possible for me to juggle both at the same time. Thanks!

  • @lapticul hey fuck you buddy. seriously youre just getting a rise out of people and youre just a hater. Do you even know the process of becoming an architect and being successful in such a competitive field career. Whats your dream?

  • @MegaXJay in 1 year i will become an architect. i guess you're not that bright to understand what i wanted to say but thanks. my dream is my own business , but it's what arthur schopenhauer calls "happiness" times 10000...

  • @lapticul Thats really good for you. I guess I didnt understand what you were trying to say because you did not give any hint towards it but thats ok. Im happy for you we actually share similar goals and good luck to you in the future. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

  • @MegaXJay It's not easy, i knew alot of people who tried and failed. or didn't extraordinary well come critique.

  • Im not doing well in math in Grade 10 and I need to to take Uni math to become an Architect. Honestly its my passion, when im not doing homework im designing buildings. Any tips Doug?

  • @barod1 yes. follow your dreams!

  • @howtoarchitect Thank you Doug! I might have to take an extra year of highschool but damn, it will be worth it!

  • @barod1 also check out the 'could you be an architect' series. I discuss inadequacies in particular subjects and what really matters. All the best!

  • @howtoarchitect I read the pre-requisites of the program I want to take at University of Waterloo (Up here in Canada) and they require calculus, advanced functions and all that other good stuff but I will deffinately check out that series :)
