Haha nice setup, im pretty sure you can see some decent views with SCT there! Haha, im gona get a Celestar 8, hopefully I get some action in the sky with it! Nice vid and nice looking scope, bye!
@25TriggerHappy It is not the Celestar 8" anymore discontinued. It is now the Celestron SE8"GOTOComputerized or the CelestronStarBright XLT SGT GOTOComputerized or CGEMmount. You decide which GOTO you like the SGT CG-5 Advanced mount shown in this Video/Audio or the CGEM Mount which is more expensive & does not perform much better than this CG-5 GT Advanced mount. But,it is a matter of preference what Mount you desire for your Celestron C8" XLT StarBright.Remember the CGEM mount is also $800 more!!
I haven't really tested the scope with my DSLR, but from what I did with my point and shoot I went as far as one minute with a slightly noticeable star trail.
what is the difference between the nexstar 6se and the c6-sgt? both have 6 inch apertures but the c6-sgt is 300euro dearer. i want to buy one but dont know which one. any advice please?
It depends on what your goal in astronomy is. The 6SE would be mainly for the visual, while the C6-SGT would be for astrophotography. If you're not planning to do astrophotography, I would recommend the 6SE since it is much more portable (not to mention cheaper!).
Hey I was wondering, with this scope (or any computerized, I suppose) Can you also run it manually? Or does this require you to take off the Go-To system? (Assuming you can...) I am wondering because I want to get this scope but I don't want to use go-to right away
Yes you can run the telescope manually since there are lock levers for the two axis. However, there are no slow motion controls with this telescope, so trying to center a star in the eyepiece especially at high magnifications would be a little difficult.
I'm not sure about other computerised telescopes, though.
@starsoffyre Ok cool, about how long does a 9volt battery last you? easily a few nights of observing? Like 7 hours+ ? I am really thinking of getting this scope, how do you like it?
I don't think that you can use a 9 volt battery with this scope. The only power sources that can be used are a car with the included car adapter, or the celestron power tank. I haven't gone to the stage of using up all of the stored energy in the power tank, though. However, it should be able to last up to 7 hours.
The image quality is extremely good, but the problem that I have with the scope itself is the long focal length. This results the magnification being too high when used with the provided eyepiece and makes viewing wide-field objects like nebulae difficult. Preferably, the C6-NGT would be a better option in this case. As for the mount, the goto works well, although alignment is a little tedious. However, I have been experiencing some tracking error in long exposures.
@starsoffyre Great, so you would recommend the C6-NGT over this? I have a feeling I am going to be more interested in viewing the nebulae and galaxies, so in that case I guess so eh
Sorry I had to split this into two comments......so I was looking at the barlows right now.....there's the 1.25in. 2x Orion Shorty Barlow Lens(I guess tha would go with the first set of eyepices that I mentined in the other comment) or the 2in. 2x Orion 3-Element Apochromatic Barlow Lens(and that would go with the second set of eyepieces that I mentioned...again in the other comment)which one of these combinations are the best or is there something better???
The eyepiece size depends on the scope that you are using. If your scope is meant to connect to 1.25" eyepieces, then use 1.25" eyepieces. As for the barlow, it is a tube with a lens that fits in between the eyepiece holder of the scope and the eyepiece itself to double the magnification. You can use barlows with any eyepiece, provided that they are of the same size. Like I said, you need one that is suitable for your scope's eyepiece holder.
@starsoffyre I was reading the telescopes specs and it said that I came with two eyepieces the DeepView 28.0mm (2in.), 12.5mm (1.25in.) so that means that I could use both kind of eyepieces(the 1.25 and the 2 inch) right???and.......an wooooooow I never new how hard it was to buy a telescope(not the telescope itself but when you need to choose which eyepieces and barlow's go with your telescope for the highest quality viewing)
Actually, I think that the telescope you bought comes with an eyepiece adapter so that you can fit your 1.25" eyepiece into the 2" holder. If you are getting a 2" barlow, you won't be able to fit the 1.25" eyepiece with it and vice versa. Actually, the eyepiece and barlows really make up a small fraction of the equation. You may not want to purchase too many eyepieces at one go since a couple of eyepieces and a barlow should give you the sufficient range of magnifications.
@starsoffyre Oh ok so I'm just gonna buy the 1.25 inch barlow and the filters the light shroud and later on some eyepieces....thank you for all your great and amazing help...and for having alot patience:)
@starsoffyre So I was looking at the eyepieces and I liked the Orion Expanse Telescope Eyepices or the Orion Q70 2in. Super-Wide Telescope Eyepieces whick ones are better for this telescope...are these good or should I go for something else....as for the barlow I don't know since I guess I would have to get different barlow ls according to eyepiece size.....
Hi that is really nice scope......I want to buy one too but I don't know which one I should get I am thinking of buying either a celestron C10-NGT an Orion atlas 10 or if I should just go for a an orion skyquest 12 dobsonian can you help me please I want a scope that will allowed me to do some deep-sky observing(galaxies) which one would you reccomend me.....I don't want it for astrophotography I just want it to look at the sky:)...anyone tell me I want to hear your reccomendations
Well if you're just planning to look at the sky, I would suggest the skyquest 12 or any other dob that gives you the highest aperture for your budget. However, you may also want to consider a goto telescope on an altazimuth mount, either one that is on a tripod or on a dobsonian. If you want to learn how to navigate the night skies and not let the telescope find objects for you, then the dob is the way to go. Whether you want to get a goto scope is in your preference.
@starsoffyre Would there be any difference in the quality or difference in power or something.......sorry I'm asking too many questions but since I'm going to buy a scope a I want to sure it is the right one.....by the way I live in a city.....
There shouldn't be much of a difference in quality, although I tend to favour celestron in terms of their quality control. However, power is usually based on the aperture of the scope, which is the size of the primary mirror. If you want a higher light gathering power, the 12 inch would give you just that. I don't think that light pollution is much of a problem however, since visual observations usually don't bring out the field illumination that much.
@starsoffyre By quality you tend to favor celestron....by that do you mean the clearity, sharpness, neatness of the picture or something????any ways I think I'm gonna go for the xt12 for my first telescope....but can you answer that final question
I mean the quality of the optical parts. However, this is only a minor thing and shouldn't really affect your choice. After all, both celestron and orion are established brands. The sharpness of the image should not be that much different. Hope that helps :)
@starsoffyre I guess I do have one more question........I was looking at the Orion skyquest dobsonian telescopes and there are two the xt12g computerized intelliscope and the xt12g GoTo.....they vary from price........is it becuse one is better?????(I don't think so though because they have the same specs) so I'm guessing that the difference is the different progams that they use....correct me if I'm wrong
The xt12 intelliscope is actually one that is 'push-to', meaning, it does not track the star automatically. The intelliscope works by giving you a set of numbers, and you subsequently move the telescope manually until the two numbers reach zero, centering the star in the eyepiece. The Goto version has built-in motors which automatically points at the star and tracks it as the Earth rotates. Well as you can see, the Goto version is better as it tracks automatically.
@starsoffyre Oh ok.....thank you so much for your help....you have help me choose which one I'm gonna buy....the Orion skyquest xt12 GoTo(even though dobsonians are big I'm still gonna buy it) thank you!!!!
Great choice! As for the accessories, you probably need a portable power supply for your scope, and perhaps a set of eyepieces. Since you are using a dob, you may want to consider getting a light shroud if you are observing at a bright place. Also, if you want to do solar observing you would need a solar filter.
@starsoffyre The light shroud is for keeping the telescope clean...right????as for the eyepieces I really have COMPLETLY NO idea which ones to choose...which ones would u reccomend me....I am also thinking of buying some filters do you think that the 1.25in. Deluxe Orion Stargazers Filter Set is good for this type of scope????
Actually, the light shroud is to prevent stray light from entering the scope from the side and interfering with the image. As for eyepieces, you may want to get those with different focal lengths so that you can change the zoom. You may also want to consider getting a barlow if you don't want to have too many eyepieces. Yes, the filter set is a good choice especially for planetary viewing since it can bring out contrast in the planets.
It really depends on what you want to do. If you're planning to venture into astrophotography, then yes I would recommend this. If your interest is mainly in the visual, then you may want to consider another scope with a better aperture and/or more portable mount, such as the nexstar SE. As for the eyepiece, I use the 25mm plossl that is provided with the scope. Hope that helps :)
