It is interesting how Frescobaldi exploits the unequal temperaments of his day. I play this piece in 1/4 comma meantone set to B-- its truly haunting and send shivers down my spine.
Wonderful interpretation. It makes me think it's a shame Monteverdi didn't write any keyboard music, or any other instrumental music for that matter.
I also love your instrument--I have always wanted to own this type of small early Italian harpsichord. I would never need to own another. As far as you know, how much might one of these cost in the United States?
Thanks! Although Monteverdi was a gambist, He was more a singer than an instrumentalist I think. The prizes of used instruments are not that high (if they are not antique).
A classic Frescobaldi toccata, indeed. I find his music amongst the most interesting I've ever heard. It never gets boring for me. Great interpretation.
This is not only the best keyboard playing I've heard you do...I simply prefer it to all of the other Frescobaldi I've heard on harpsichord...which has been substantial and always somewhat disappointing at best.
The phrasing is very arresting and expressive, with the Cembalo glistening luminescently in support of you.BRAVO!
Very nice interpretation, your fingers and hands move so calm and organized. I think there was a bit too much echo, but that's just a matter of tastes. Nice instrument.
Beautiful ! Fantastic !! What's the temperament that you used ?? Bye !

Upon hearing Frescobaldi keyboard music you are suddenly filled regret that Monteverdi (supposedly) wrote no keyboard music? LOL

Fnersh - very true - most were strung 1x8 or at most 2x8. A 4' was almost unheared of, and as for more than one manual - forget it!!

Looks like a Zuckermann Neopolitan Harpsichord to me. What is it strung in?
wolfgang7445 3 years ago
actually it is Bédard, but built by a Dutch harpsichord builder, with some alterations. It is strung in brass.

thanks! I find Frescobaldi very intriguing too. Tomorrow I will play the cento partite in a recital.

The Cento Partite Sopra Passacagli?! If so, I really hope you record it. Otherwise, I still hope you record it. :)

This instrument has a great sound but is expanded to accommodate later music. Italians were very conservative in their construction practices.
