@TheMoonlightDelight what counts is what happens on the field, maybe they had a kick-ass run later that night? I've been on lines where we would do terrible in the lot and then nail it on the field, and vice versa, you never know. either way, with a 99.150, they must have done something right.
Frameworks was an amazing show. One of my favorites!! I will say that that this drum book is safe, and not played very well in this video. Maybe a bad night for the line in the lot. They walked with the gold however. The corp that is. Drum line should be thankful that the Cavs won. Cadets line was damn good. And @ sslvkm, let people have thier opinions. Score at this point doesn't mean a thing . Star of Indiana scored a 97.3 in 93 and Cadets won with a 97.4. Both of those shows. Better i think
um..3:46 when snares go from match grip butts to regular traditional...does 3rd snare from left not get it right and look way off for a second???? i now it's 2010 and this was 2002 but i just noticed it lol
Scouts I can see that happening.... They're homo. But Cavies are just sweet. And they're probably cooler people and better drummers than you'll ever be!
For years now I've thought the tenor solo in the first minute of this clip was supposed to start with a massive flam. Now, after seeing this I know the truth...it was a finals night jitters flam.
wrong. actually at 3:48, hes not the only one to do it. the far right snare that can be seen also does it. so it was probably just a visual between half of the line.

Cavs rule even though I'm more of a Cadets fan when it comes to their drumline. Cavs have some of my favorite drill. I wish I was good enough to even get into DCI let alone Div. I. Bayarearapsuxballs, dude leave people alone. You're outnumbered and won't let your ignorant point be heard. High school and college bands are decent but I'd love to see them try these peices.
woo! seriously, Drumline the movie had semi-good (adapted) "music" but no actual skill (you know, besides the REAL drumline that played). you all never slowed down or sped up, right on tempo. i think it's good when i can't hear myself tapping to the tempo ^_^ i wish i could get into an upscale DL like this, any available spots on tenors for a girl? :)
BayAreaRapSuxBalls - you are dumb. stop posting comments on this video when you obviously don't know what DCI is about. So stick to your stupid drumline movie that has nothing to do with this video, dumbass.
Yeah this is defintely one of their dirtiest years of the past 10 years or so. They are still clean compared to most drumlines, and definitely compared to the ones BayArea refers to, but just not as clean as normal for them. Still, I couldn't play this stuff clean, so go Cavies.
You are still fucking dumb dude. Probably 70% of DCI corps warm up in uniform. I've seen hundreds of high schools and college universities that do too. This video is of the Cavs warming up playing show music just before taking the field. You don't know ANYTHING about drumlines if you don't know something as obvious as this. I suggest you seriously shut up because you are making a really, really huge ass out of yourself, proving yourself to be a ignorant stupid inexperienced loud mouth.
2008 is my 2nd year in a DCI corps. I listen to Asheru, Mos Def, Jay-Z, Jurassic 5, DJ Format... Trust me, DCI drummers have rythm. More than Mandy Moore or whatever shit you listen to. I didn't say you're wrong that certain people can like certain things, but you are fucking ignorant and a blithering idiot to say that the people from the movie drumline are better than the cavaliers. You are a fucking fool and you know nothing of music or what DCI stands for, PERIOD.
This is probably the most blasphemous thing I've ever read in my life. You are simply wrong about everything you say and don't know what you're talking about. Furthermore you are a fan of Mandy Moore and Dane Cook, so you are a douchebag and should die in a fire. While this IS, admittedly, one of the most boring pieces ever played by a DCI line, it's much better than sloppily clicking your sticks together on quarter notes and high stepping like a bunch of retards with visuals every 3 seconds
hahaha amen man. It just pisses me off that he thinks he can come up in here and talk smack about the Div. 1 world champs because he's "watched a bunch of drumlines." hahaha I looked up the schools he was talking about and guess what??? They SUCK ASS!!! ...go figure...
i think that dci is awesome... cuz that a drumline that is in high school could never really be that good, BUT they can come close, but they have to be really really good. my drumline is really good and we're not really anywhere close to a division I DCI.
That, my friend would never happen. The Cavies and Blue Devils' books don't include dance steps so it obviously sucks...at least according to dumbass over here who was apparently "raised in a city with decent music." and besides, those "girls and fags" can play a hell of a lot better than any band BayArea seems to be referring to.
Clark Atlanta plays showstyle drumming. DCI is not about showstyle drumming. This is corp style drumming. Its all about rudiments and making sure shit sounds clean. Its technical. Your not gonna see them dancing around like Clark Atlanta and Spellman. Their all about entertaining the crowd through dance moves and visuals, and thats fine. But dont compare clark atlanta and the cavaliers. Two different styles of drumming.
im in a drumline and the guy who said they can't move or the sound will be way screwed up has some logic to that comment. Cause when you move and record the drumline there will be like a wave expecially if the base line and snare and tenor move all over the place. best to stay in one spot. But HEY, im not even in a corp.
Thank you. Thats what I was saying. And they might not be practicing like I said in an earlier comment, they could be rehearsing their show music because this is their show "Frameworks". It was very good might I add.
This is them practicing the music before playing their show at the finals.
And seeing a drumline doesn't mean you know anything about drumming and what goes oin to playing clean. And please tell me what you think it takes to make a good drumline. And if you're going to use a phrase like they play real music, please give me an example of what you think real music is.
Bayarearapsuxballs: Dude 1. You don't play any percussion intrument and niether do I so niether of us have the right to critize. 2. They are DCI CORPS, not bands. 3. They are practicing and recording, so they can't move or the sound will be way screwed up and they already memorized their drill. 4. The metronome is very important, it keeps the beat up because people tend to drag the music.
Yeah because marching 4 to 5 at 180 BPM isn't moving very much at all. It's only what, about 12 feet per second, or 8.2 mph. And the entire time they're playing and keeping in form with the rest of the corp. And you don't think corps have fun? You are sorely mistaken. And even at the hs level a drumline is supposed to keep the tempo. Drumming is all about rhythm. If a drumline can't keep tempo, the band falls apart. You quoted Drumline earlier, does "We are the heartbeat" sound familiar?
... wow i'd bet my paycheck to you those "small college" drummers are auditioning and wishing upon a star to join the ranks of The Cavaliers / Blue Devils... and show me a division one corps that stands in "one place" for longer than 15seconds (excluding the finale) and we make it two paychecks
Bayarearapsuxballs...you sir, suck balls. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about.
"they just play the same tempo the whole way through and stand in one place like they got sumthin stuck up their ass or sumthin"
What the hell? A drumline's JOB is to keep the same tempo and sound damn good doing it. And they cant march anywhere because they're in a PARKING LOT. That would certainly explain why they are "just standing in one place." Please, do us all a favor and stop talking.
You say they fucked up the style, but you're in a drumline so you can't really talk, I'd like to see you try to play any of this stuff. And what do you mean by succesful drumlines? I would say being recognized as the best percussion section for the year would mean you're pretty successful. And them moving their nears back in forth, its called marking time, its what you do when you're in a marching band or corps.
And you know the college drumlines that have their best players tryout for DCI and don't make it because they aren't good enough, those lines are definitely better than DCI lines. One of the only college lines that can even compare to DCI is UNT, and thats because most of thir players march DCI.
"they dont hear the sound of the line just their own drum"
Watch the movie Drumline much? That movie is a disgrace to drumlines. I could go on for a while, but I've been at the char limit 3 times
and the bass line doesn't just stand there like "something is up there ass and play the same tempo over and over". If you care to find some videos of the Cadets bass line from 2006 and 2007 you'll see. Look up "Holy Bass". I bet you'll change your tune a little bit.
The snares are the highest speaking voice with the tenors being the mid. You're going to here them more often. The Bass Line keeps the Line's timing together. If you can't hear the Bassline, then I don't know what to tell you. Every instrument on the line is audible, and I know this speaking as a Member of a DCI Bass Line as well as someone who has been playing music nearly all my life. It's obvious how little you know about marching music all together.
my guess is you are a fan of "traditional" bands instead of "corps" style bands. Ok, so real music to you is someone with a bass drum that's tuned to no specific tone banging away and doing whatever dance he/she deems necessary to go along with it. Watch the actual show from this rehearsal/warm-up. I think you'll find that it is PERFECTLY balanced with the rest of the corps.
I'm not one to argue but I'm going to address a few things you said.
First, it's Cymbal not "cymbol"Second,it's Composer, not "music maker" Third, just because this video only shows the snares and tenors, doesn't mean that only those sections are being utilized. The quality of the recording distorts the Basses. Also I don't understand what part of this excerpt resembles country music. The "chirping noise" is an Afro-Cuban percussion instrument called a Clave...

While this IS, admittedly, one of the most boring pieces ever played by a DCI line, it's much better than sloppily clicking your sticks together on quarter notes and high stepping like a bunch of retards with visuals every 3 seconds

yea cups. tell him how it is

Oh shit who is this, someone from Fairlawn high school so it could be like 70% of the raiders

hahaha amen man. It just pisses me off that he thinks he can come up in here and talk smack about the Div. 1 world champs because he's "watched a bunch of drumlines." hahaha I looked up the schools he was talking about and guess what??? They SUCK ASS!!! ...go figure...
tha1manband 3 years ago 3
i think that dci is awesome... cuz that a drumline that is in high school could never really be that good, BUT they can come close, but they have to be really really good. my drumline is really good and we're not really anywhere close to a division I DCI.
sahsdrumline 3 years ago
omg there tenors own
sahsdrumline 3 years ago
Still havent anwered my question, what do you think makes a drumline good?
drumlinefreak92 3 years ago
if they are clean and have tempo, and can play their stuff, either standing or marching at any tempo and get it clean, that's what "good" is to me
sahsdrumline 3 years ago
what ever...im just sayin lets have atlanta a and t play some of cavies or bd's shit
m12990 3 years ago
That, my friend would never happen. The Cavies and Blue Devils' books don't include dance steps so it obviously sucks...at least according to dumbass over here who was apparently "raised in a city with decent music." and besides, those "girls and fags" can play a hell of a lot better than any band BayArea seems to be referring to.

word
m12990 3 years ago
lol.. my drumline thinks that girls dont belong on drumline... at my school they all suck so i guess that's why. but the rest of us is really good
sahsdrumline 3 years ago
ha football game marching bands...well id like to see them playing this stuff...someones been marching a little to much of the movie drumline
m12990 3 years ago
thats the stupidest shit ive ever heard...but whateve that ur opinon and not many people that watch this would agree with you any way
m12990 3 years ago
how hard can it be to click your sticks together and play eighth notes?
drummnstormchasnguy 3 years ago
Yea, so thats why they won that night, right?
Trigger584 3 years ago
I feel you. Its all about what your taste in music is. I guess you offended people when you said that corp style is boring.
Khmalah 3 years ago
its called warmin up....thats what u do before a show...play through your excersze book and then run through the show to make sure everythings tight
m12990 3 years ago
Clark Atlanta plays showstyle drumming. DCI is not about showstyle drumming. This is corp style drumming. Its all about rudiments and making sure shit sounds clean. Its technical. Your not gonna see them dancing around like Clark Atlanta and Spellman. Their all about entertaining the crowd through dance moves and visuals, and thats fine. But dont compare clark atlanta and the cavaliers. Two different styles of drumming.
Khmalah 3 years ago
im in a drumline and the guy who said they can't move or the sound will be way screwed up has some logic to that comment. Cause when you move and record the drumline there will be like a wave expecially if the base line and snare and tenor move all over the place. best to stay in one spot. But HEY, im not even in a corp.
l3yrdman 3 years ago
Thank you. Thats what I was saying. And they might not be practicing like I said in an earlier comment, they could be rehearsing their show music because this is their show "Frameworks". It was very good might I add.

Cavaliers 2002 Lot - DCI Finals...
This is them practicing the music before playing their show at the finals.
And seeing a drumline doesn't mean you know anything about drumming and what goes oin to playing clean. And please tell me what you think it takes to make a good drumline. And if you're going to use a phrase like they play real music, please give me an example of what you think real music is.
drumlinefreak92 3 years ago
Bayarearapsuxballs: Dude 1. You don't play any percussion intrument and niether do I so niether of us have the right to critize. 2. They are DCI CORPS, not bands. 3. They are practicing and recording, so they can't move or the sound will be way screwed up and they already memorized their drill. 4. The metronome is very important, it keeps the beat up because people tend to drag the music.
TWBaltz 3 years ago
And what do you mean by a REAL drumline and REAL music? Please, give me some examples.
drumlinefreak92 3 years ago
Yeah because marching 4 to 5 at 180 BPM isn't moving very much at all. It's only what, about 12 feet per second, or 8.2 mph. And the entire time they're playing and keeping in form with the rest of the corp. And you don't think corps have fun? You are sorely mistaken. And even at the hs level a drumline is supposed to keep the tempo. Drumming is all about rhythm. If a drumline can't keep tempo, the band falls apart. You quoted Drumline earlier, does "We are the heartbeat" sound familiar?
drumlinefreak92 3 years ago
... wow i'd bet my paycheck to you those "small college" drummers are auditioning and wishing upon a star to join the ranks of The Cavaliers / Blue Devils... and show me a division one corps that stands in "one place" for longer than 15seconds (excluding the finale) and we make it two paychecks
djduran 3 years ago
geeze man, can't you just enjoy the beats?
*lol i play flute but i love these guys!
tobiownsme 3 years ago
Bayarearapsuxballs...you sir, suck balls. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about.
"they just play the same tempo the whole way through and stand in one place like they got sumthin stuck up their ass or sumthin"
What the hell? A drumline's JOB is to keep the same tempo and sound damn good doing it. And they cant march anywhere because they're in a PARKING LOT. That would certainly explain why they are "just standing in one place." Please, do us all a favor and stop talking.
tha1manband 3 years ago 5
You say they fucked up the style, but you're in a drumline so you can't really talk, I'd like to see you try to play any of this stuff. And what do you mean by succesful drumlines? I would say being recognized as the best percussion section for the year would mean you're pretty successful. And them moving their nears back in forth, its called marking time, its what you do when you're in a marching band or corps.
drumlinefreak92 3 years ago
I had some typos in the last one, you're *not* in a drumline, and them moving their *knees* is called marking time.
"if u listen to DCI u hear practically 90% all snares and tenors, and the 10% the rest"
"I didnt say I couldnt hear the bass in DCI"
Sure you didn't.
And hearing EVERY line instrument is bad, the snares and tenors should sound like 1 snare and 1 tenor.
drumlinefreak92 3 years ago
And you know the college drumlines that have their best players tryout for DCI and don't make it because they aren't good enough, those lines are definitely better than DCI lines. One of the only college lines that can even compare to DCI is UNT, and thats because most of thir players march DCI.
"they dont hear the sound of the line just their own drum"
Watch the movie Drumline much? That movie is a disgrace to drumlines. I could go on for a while, but I've been at the char limit 3 times
drumlinefreak92 3 years ago
and the bass line doesn't just stand there like "something is up there ass and play the same tempo over and over". If you care to find some videos of the Cadets bass line from 2006 and 2007 you'll see. Look up "Holy Bass". I bet you'll change your tune a little bit.
drummnstormchasnguy 4 years ago
The snares are the highest speaking voice with the tenors being the mid. You're going to here them more often. The Bass Line keeps the Line's timing together. If you can't hear the Bassline, then I don't know what to tell you. Every instrument on the line is audible, and I know this speaking as a Member of a DCI Bass Line as well as someone who has been playing music nearly all my life. It's obvious how little you know about marching music all together.
revliscrazy 4 years ago
my guess is you are a fan of "traditional" bands instead of "corps" style bands. Ok, so real music to you is someone with a bass drum that's tuned to no specific tone banging away and doing whatever dance he/she deems necessary to go along with it. Watch the actual show from this rehearsal/warm-up. I think you'll find that it is PERFECTLY balanced with the rest of the corps.
drummnstormchasnguy 4 years ago
I'm not one to argue but I'm going to address a few things you said.
First, it's Cymbal not "cymbol"Second,it's Composer, not "music maker" Third, just because this video only shows the snares and tenors, doesn't mean that only those sections are being utilized. The quality of the recording distorts the Basses. Also I don't understand what part of this excerpt resembles country music. The "chirping noise" is an Afro-Cuban percussion instrument called a Clave...
