@EnrySimmersen - Yep, it would have ended with with Wells LOSING again, but this time likely in third place instead of second and since you obviously don't even know who was on the US 200 meter team (hint: NONE of the sprinters you mentioned) it's not even worth discussing....
Wells would have gone how with two medals at best, only they would have been broronze it he got any at all....
@broadjumper1 Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah. You know you're boring you know that, the pub bore, i can't even make out what the hell you're saying, go back to you're drink you bum.
I would rather read my shoe size than read your shit, that's the effect you have had, but keep coming, son, you're on one of the most distinguished and excellent pages on Youtube, so lets keep going till Armageddon.
@EnrySimmersen - Waaa, Waaa, Waaa, if I'm so boring, why bother responding...the truth is that it pisses you off that anyone would actually point out just how mediocre and unimpressive Wells was as a sprinter and claim that he's have been even MORE unknown had he not been fortunate enough to face mostly stiffs and past-their prime sprinters...there's a reason he doesn't get the credit YOU believe he deserves and that because there's not much credit to give.
@broadjumper1 Careful old son, dont put all you're eggs in one basket, i thought you had already done the Waaa, Waaa number, it wasnt funny the first time and it hasnt improved any either the 2nd and 3rd attempts.
You dont care if i dont read your comments, well thats alright then, but i must disagree once more with you on your concept of credit giving. I give credit where its deserved and not more or less. Note i never gave any homage for 82, even if he was double Commonwealth Champion...
@EnrySimmersen - Who's cryin? Certainly not me...this is called conjecture, didn't you know? I don't spen a lot of time thinking about Floyd or Wells until someone sends me a nasty-gram because I wasn't impressed by his 100 win. And once again, don't feel like you've got to respond, I didn't ask you any questions...
And you can disagree with me all you wish. Give credit to whomever you see fit and I'll do likewise. In my book, Wells was the best of a so-so bunch in the 80 OG 100m.
@broadjumper1 Of course i'll disagree with you all i wish, you're opinion is nothing to me, you're entitled to it and thats fine, but my yes means yes and my no, no, whether its Allan Wells been the best sprinter of 1980 to High Noon been the best western ever made, you see.
@EnrySimmersen - Rightbackatcha slick. Wells wasn't ranked #1, didn't have the fastest time and faced a second-rate field...the experts put Wells at #2 for a reason.., you can debate it all you wish, but those in the know agreed with me. And the best western ever made? The Searchers, hands down.
@broadjumper1 Never mind the rightbackatyou pony, Koblenz was the kiddie to win that year and it was bigger than any meeting in Europe that year, except Olympics, let it go, and start healing yourself. The Searchers, is that the one where John Waynes got a chapped arse all the way through.
@EnrySimmersen - Koblenz ? Please, what a joke Nigel. Yeah, I see EVERYONE talking about the KOBLENZ race, why, it's gone down in history I tells ya! LOL! The race was an after thought and only some one like you could be so disingenuous...utterly absurd. Although Wells won the OG he was #2, for good reason. Deal with the facts, you'll be a little happier mess than now.
And yes, the Searchers starred John Wayne,..High Noon? Is that the one where Gary Cooper once ALMOST changed his expression?
@broadjumper1 Jimmy Carter said, any American that go's to Moscow would lose their passport. Well why didnt they then? Afterall the British team were disencouraged by the primeminister, not to the same lengths, but they could of been based in London and competed in moscow under the Olympic flag like the Brits did, wasnt or couldnt that of been an option? The russians never disencouraged it, they would of been allowed to compete, and they wouldnt of been left out in the cold for long either.
@EnrySimmersen - "Jimmy Carter said, any American that go's to Moscow would lose their passport. Well why didnt they then? "
Uh, ever TRY to travel internationally WITHOUT a passport? Nobody competed under the Olympic flag...Athletes have requested such permissions like James Gilkes in '76 and were turned down. This wasn't Russia's call, the USOC (under pressure from the US Goverment) turned down the US invitaton. At that point, had they tried, the IOC would have barred them.
@broadjumper1 Just a thought, but it wasnt an impossible option, would of taken bollocks to do it though.
Yep, Koblenz was the biggy and it is remembered nicely, even the American boys referred it as the "real Olympics" thats not me saying it, but Floyd and co. Granted Wells was RANKED 2, but performed FIRST in his racing, even Lattany was big enough to see it, Floyd though acted like you like a big fanny.
Are you related? Dont be ashamed to confess it, he was a big fish in the US only.
@EnrySimmersen - It's wasn't an option., they would have lost their passports indefinately. Koblenz was nothing, hardly remembered at all. Floyd tried to put a good face on it, but what he was thinking was" this is a bullshit consolation race" His BEST chance to parlay a career out of the Olympics was gone cause nobody cared about Koblenz, only a moron refuses see this...Wells was #2, period. No relation, but are you Wells lover? Dont be ashamed to confess, being queer's no crime.
@broadjumper1 Nope, i love my women too much, sorry i couldnt be one of you, but there you have it. And how the hell do you know Floyd was thinking? It's you making tales up again isnt it?
Bullshit consolation race?
Welll! I'm sure you would like to think so. Or dream so.
@EnrySimmersen - Please, the friggin UK is full of poofs, now that we know the truth about you, we understand why you're so infatuated with Wells..
Oh and how do I know...hmmm, let's see...Athletes like Bruce Jenner win OG gold and go off to make millions. Edwin Moses goes off to a HUGE career, Floyd's supposed to be happy with a bullshit consolation race that even if he wins, gets him NOTHING? Yes, consolation race, I'm sure you would like to think of it as more, but then you're a twit.
@broadjumper1 So you're a Bruce Jenner fan are you? What do you guys do when youre not been obscene and disgusting, is it roller skates on, oil each other up and pot pourri yourself as you do your thing through town! Well i dont want to hear it, you pansy you.
Ed Moses though, there was an athlete, brilliant.
Floyd though was a 10.13 sprinter inside Europe in 80, and 10.11 is quicker than 10.13 in Europe, and that counts for everything as well as Koblenz.
@EnrySimmersen - Oooh, look who's knickers are in a bunch....now you're tellin' us about how you like to do obscene and disgusting things to Wells with roller skates on, after oiling each other up...wow, that's how you Pooftas party? We know your REAL favorite films 'Lawrence of Arabia' and 'Cruising'..
Yes, Moses was a better athlete that anyone the UK has ever produced. Floyd was ranked #1 in the WORLD and that tells the whole story of the Wells walkover victory. Koblenz was shit.
@EnrySimmersen - but had Floyd been permitted to run in Moscow and crushed Wells, Leonard and the rest of the field, he would have gone on to sprint stardom, earned shoe contracts and would have probably run at least through the 1984 season...but it kinda shows how most companies felt about Wells' win, that he wasn't able to capitalize of it one bit because the advertisers knew he was a paper champion....hell, even BORZOV was more famous and he was from a COMMUNIST country, LOL!
@broadjumper1 As i said earlier i only responded because i know my Athletics history, you told lies and were totally and still are misinformed of what was going on back then. I do remember interviews from many party's, discussions on World of Sport, witness to many of the races and followed it with enthusism, so i'm qualified in my right to comment on this as i please, and you? Well you have no say in it because you dont know enough about it and i've caught you out as the turd what you are.
@EnrySimmersen - Please, you know shit about shit....all you've done is whine like a little poxy twat...you're entitled to an opinion, not your own facts...
Stop cryin, Wells is a forgotten pseudo-champion (everywhere except in the UK) who beat a depleted second rate field in the SLOWEST final in last FIFTY YEARS and who's 100 PR isn't even within the TOP 1,800 performances EVER...the TURD is Wells and you just keep tryin to polish up that turd. Go cry to someone who cares...LOL!
@broadjumper1 So what do you want? A tip? Fuck off you hypocritical wank stain of a mutt, you're nothing, i'm only here to boost Wells rankings and may i say you're doing supurb, so more of the same please, i'll bitch slap you on this subject forever more, you understand! Good boy.
And the way you talk of Ed Moses, like you have something in commen with him, LOOL! keep dreaming, the only thing you have in commen is your yanks, in your case a plank. Now you go off crying like a pansy boy.
@EnrySimmersen - Awww, don't go away mad, just fuck off and die...;-) It seems you have a real difficult time when people don't show as much defference to your paper champion as you think they should, but the guy couldn't have even qualified to be on a US team, so it's a good thing the UK has such low standards...I'm soooo sorry you got your tended little feelings hurt, but NOTHING you say will boost Wells rankings...you understand? Good little girl.
@broadjumper1 You're running out of steam i see, it's this thing in you're mind that i should be mad, but at what? I have right and you're wrong, simple. Wells was the best sprinter in the world in 80 81, and won all the biggest events, and the yanks couldnt do anything about it, so why would i be mad? Everythings gone my way, as i say i'm just keeping you around for laughs, nothing more.
No i didnt think you would understand about standard, and you still talk shite, its like reading...
@EnrySimmersen - Uh, if you're gonna try using big words to try to sound smart, at LEAST learn to spell....otherwise you might appear even MORE ignorant than we already believe.
@broadjumper1 Yep, you play it safe son with the old spelling card, and go get a job you smelly whino turd you, or at least go have a wash, you're smelling. LOOL!
@EnrySimmersen - SAFE? Oh, yeah - IGNORANT is a REAL tough word to spell, LOL! Bitchslapped in sport and SPELLING...what a loser, an obsequious, impudent and obfuscating little troll you are!
That smell is coming from your upper lip, Sanchez.
@broadjumper1 I win again, and you're the only Fawning and servile one on this page. Oh yes, but you still havent washed have you, you disgusting pikey bag of shit you, now get the look off your face. That's it, play it safe boy, you know your place.
@EnrySimmersen - You win? LOL, great, so know you can take you ball and piss off like a little fop...I know my place, bitchslapping pasty whiny bitches like you with the facts, telling the truth about pseudo-champions like Wells who couldn't beat an all-comers field...but I know why you're livin in the past, it's all you got! LOL
Stop playin stink finger with your mum and you won't have to worry about all those annoying smells...
@broadjumper1 pseudo-champions, spoken like a true dumb-shit. Again you seem to be under the impression that you've carried any weight here, well you aint, and you do stink like a hoar in your comments, but that's you. I've picked up nothing from you and been none the wiser by your fluid faeces, but who cares, and i also know and like several other athletes as much if not more than i like Wells, Calvin Smith, Don Quarrie, Hedi Dressler and of course Ed.
@EnrySimmersen - That's right a pseudo-champion, he won a race full of second tier sprinters in the slowest time of the last FIFTY years. Calling him a champion of any kind is generous. My opinion carries as much weight as yours on YouTube, I'm certain just like like I'm certain you're an expert on stinkin whores...you've picked up nothing because you're as dense as a brick, but YOU DO care, otherwise you'd have split hours ago, but at least you do appreciate some REAL champs, unlike Wells.
@broadjumper1 You're shit just like i said, tell me you couldnt run for your life yet you dare criticise others, so its you whos the real stinking whore round here, but like i say you'll be forgotten in a minute, and if i stink then what are you hanging around here for? You are clear to bugger off if you dont like it. I know you havent got a job, just bummin around on welfare, eh fatso.
@EnrySimmersen - Boo HOO,'enry the poof doesn't like meeee! Dude, I have nothing to prove to you, I'll bet you can stick up a room and have paid more for your whores than any living man, doesn't mean I won't comment if I feel like it, I couldn't give a fuck if you like it or not....your lame personal attacks are amusing, they're not the least bit witty...but who ever said Brits were supposed to sharp?
@broadjumper1 But all said and done you do appreciate Wells, i know you do, you appreciate a real champion i see that in you. You're definetely in the right place, dummy.
@EnrySimmersen - I recognize the fact that he was able to win a race at a depleted Olympic Games. His win was the equivalent of running in a race of British school girls with but one other world class male opponent. That means I have only slightly more respect for him than some halfwit like you, which ain't much.
@broadjumper1 Halfwit am i? But i've been carrying and taking you out for the last few hours. LOOL You're more discredited by the second, and i dont want you're respect, as i keep telling you, you're nothing to me, and you know nothing either just like your comments.
@EnrySimmersen - Yep halfwit, and that's a generous assessment. The mere fact you believe lame insults and self-aggrandizement counts as making salient points in any discussion only proves that you've been out of your depth for hours...no matter how much you whine, I'm not going to change my opinion of your pseudo-champion and nothing you've spewed will raise his profile.
And if you think my previous statement means I respect you, you're dumber than I already knew. You're truly clueless...
@broadjumper1 You're the only clueless one here, son, i've answered your doubts and more on this discussion and i'm actually chuffed at once again taking you out on this. And as i say i dont give a damn about your respect, or what you listen to, or your opinion, blah de blah, de shagging blah, you're a tool in your mindset and understand and know nothing, infact you're starting to repeat yourself, which makes you an incredibly boring numpty, so i'm taking the dog out, you dont get anything.
@EnrySimmersen - More logical fallacies, that's all you've got left. You've answered NOTHING, just tried to throw up smokescreen, make excuses and childish insults. If you can't deal with someone talking down your pseudochamp, too bad, but you'll need to learn to deal with it. So take your dog out, If sure he'll be even more bored with your company than I am, but at least he knows how to respond to you, by dropping a load, that's GOTTA be more interesting than your shit
@EnrySimmersen - When does a world class athlete care if he loses?
When he's told the BEST he'll be allowed to compete in is some consolation meet untelevised in the US, where he'll be awarded NO Olympic medal and no one really cares how he does and this happens through no fault of his own. Yet again, you FAIL understand what an athlete who's worked his whole life for feels when his goal and FUTURE is STOLEN away and given to an inferior athlete...what an asshole, go walk your dog, halfwit.
@broadjumper1 I wasnt happy about the boycott either and wanted everybody there, but it didnt happen, but they never gave up did they, they came back and rightfully so and went after the best, and it was televised in the UK and it was very popular at the time, but you're in no position to tell who's inferior in Athletics, it's you who is inferior and bitter, now go wash, tosspot.
@EnrySimmersen - Your particular feelings about the boycott aren't particularly important since your athletes weren't effected, but mostly benefited as your medals won improved by over 60%. I didn't say the meet wasn't televised, but that it wasn't televised in the US., can you READ ENGLISH? And I'm in a perfect position to jugde who's inferior, even the experts agreed in the rankings. Now fuck off halfwit....
@broadjumper1 We all know what you would do, lie down and give up just like you've stated, but Floyd and Lattany came out in Koblenz stating that this was the real Olympic Games and their hearts were in it, there's no doubt about it because i remember watching it avidly. It's only you who wont acknowledge it for what it truly was, only you, which puts you in the wilderness and makes you look pathetic and stupid.
@EnrySimmersen - An area of your expertise, lying down and giving it up, you like making the poofs work easy indeed. But what you claim to remember is meaningless without proof. There's no reason to acknowledge something unproven as fact. Your compulsion to to lie tells us not to believe a thing you say. It would be humorous if it wasn't so pathetic, but it PROVES you're a halfwit with a psychosexal obsession with Wells in particular and men in general. Stay away you sick, twisted freak
@broadjumper1 See what i mean? Thick as shit you are, with an understanding of nothing. And you are decisively inferior, and i'm here right now to tell you you are. Typical Dumbarse yank with fuck all to say of any interest to anybody.
@EnrySimmersen - See what I mean? You're a fucking halfwit...you're so far out of your depth on this discussion, it's like shooting some very dumb fish in a barrel...Typical English poof, whines and cries like a little bitch, never saying anything of substance to anyone.
But unlike you i've answered everything that is required, whilst you're contributions have been, how should i say...putrefaction!
But Wells still stands and Floyd failed, but at least he tried which is more than you would of done, and every time you come down this slippery slope, old son, 2 things will outgun you each time.
1. Floyd's 10.07 should of been run in Europe not America, 10.13 wasnt good enough.
@EnrySimmersen - I've debunked your pathetic theories & exposed your lies, all you have left are lame insults, but mental putrefaction explains your lack of intelligent responses. The experts knew Wells faced a crap OG field and would have otherwise been the loser, just like YOU are!
Three facts shoots your bullshit down:
1. Floyd ranked #1
2. Wells ran the slowest final in the last 50 years
3. Well's PR is so SLOW, it doesn't crack the top 1,800 all-time. Now, you're finished.
@broadjumper1 = the Idiot, who else would use the word inferior to the differences of 10.07 and 10.11, 4 hundreths of a second, hardly worlds a part. But you're a cretin, nothing more to teach you now. Out.
@EnrySimmersen = painfully stupid. Who else would consider Wells an equal when he never came close to breaking 10.0, in fact NEVER broke.10.1 and who's PR isn't among the top 1,800 ever run, while Floyd and Lattany ran much faster (10.03 & 9.96) in their careers. Hell, we've have highschoolers run faster than 10.11, LOL!
Wells was a pseudochampion who's biggest accomplishment was nothing more than the luck of the draw.
You're a mouthbreathing cretin with some sick, sexual crush on Wells.
@EnrySimmersen You gotta be White. You folks masturbate everynight over the thought of a White man beating Bolt, Gay, Powell, Blake, etc. Tired of trying to rationalize to you women why us n****rs dominate the sprints, middle and long distances...oh hell every event worth viewing. Relax. Take off your hood, and enjoy the shows.
@OurManInMarrakessh Enjoy the greats? Fucking Lol! Borzov beat a watered down weak field(no Hart, Robinson, Quarrie, Crawford) in a pedestrian time. Mennea? Beat another sorry lot because of the boycott and went purposely to altitude to get the record(and a doper) Kenteris(lol doper) Lemaitre...who the fuck is that? Sure, he'll beat Bolt, Gay, Powell, Blake.
GO AWAY AND DO NOT RETURN. YOU DON'T KNOW JACKSHIT!
@beebeechitown You're right about this ManinMarrakessh guy being some dork, and his one-sided opinions just make him look even more stupid.
However, I give Pietro Mennea more credit than the other sprinters you mentioned. Remember, Mennea ran his sprint races with NO STARTING BLOCKS, and he remained in the world's Top 10 for a much longer period than Borzov, Kenteris, etc. You can't fake that.
We'll see how Le'Maitre develops in the future (especially London 1012.)
@bengusandlex SHUT UP and do your homework, you DORK.
Pietro Mennea almost NEVER used starting blocks. He almost always took off from a standing, two-point stance. One of the times he didn't, he set a WORLD RECORD.
Your biased bullshit won't cut it when you make posts in an open forum filled with knowledgeable students of the sport, like this one. My statements have nothing to do with race. Yours are centered around biased favoritism for the U.K. Pack it up and go home, loser.
@Visionary0001 Almost never used? A moment ago it was running his sprints with NO starting blocks, period. Which is it? Again, it was Wells that didnt use the starting blocks in his races right up till 80.
Me biased? Thats rich coming from the most biased nation of all time.
In what? It's the Americans that are the ones that are obsessed with Wells and moscow, not the Brits.
@OurManInMarrakessh One last thing you sorry ass pencil dick unsecure bigot. You and I can go to any bar in America(even the most rednecky of bars) and I'll get the pussy before you. And don't plant your mother there to win....I'll just show her my big black dick.
@beebeechitown i find it funny how you call some one you dont even know insecure, then you proceed to angrily make angry remarks about someone you dont even know, and generalizing billions of people in the process, hmmm now tell me who sounds like the insecure one(its you in case your not smart enough to figure it out)
@EnrySimmersen - Hardly, but we see you're still full of hot air and whines...Wells wasn't the best in 1980/81, in fact, he was only the best in 200 ONE year (1981) and NEVER was ranked #1 in the 100....I'm RIGHT and you're WRONG, plain and simple...simple, just like your intellect.
Wells is barely a footnote in Olympic history...no suprise since women now are almost as fast as he was..;-P
@broadjumper1 But the Americans would of done nothing, nothing, i'm absolutely 100% confident on this, Floyd would of been rocked from the start just like koblenz. He couldnt even double up in both sprints, as the Golden Sprints proved a year later, live with it homo, because it was Allan Wells who was the real champ, you're just envious because of the boycott. Fact.
@EnrySimmersen - WHO cares what you're confident of, the rest of the world AND the experts who did he rankings are apparently smarter and more skeptical than a jock-sniffer like you. Live with it poofta, you've sidled up to the second biggest fraud in Olympic sprint history, second only to Ben Johnson. Allan Wells was time was SO SLOW that he would have barely defeated Armin Harry's time from TWENTY YEARS earlier and run on a CINDER track! LOL!
@broadjumper1 Wells did run on poorly maintained tracks you simpleton, in Edinburgh he ran a 9.2 100 yards in may of 80, and that track at Meadowbank was 30 years behind the times, so stop commenting on what you know nothing about, lets see what Harie could of done or Floyd for that matter at Meadowbank, you dont know you're born with that track, or Grangemouth, where Wells ran some tremendous times in the sprints.
@EnrySimmersen - Christ, you're an IDIOT. Was the Moscow track poorly maintained? NO, the fucking thing was virtually new! Stop being such a whiny little bitch. The guy ran DOZENS of races and wasn't able to come CLOSE to sub 10.1 without a fucking hurricane wind behind him but ONE time, so stop commenting on things you know nothing about.
@broadjumper1 Again i have countered you decisively and you hate it with a vengence. I was talking of Scottish tracks you flidomite, not Moscow, again youre not listening, well let me pay you back in kind you impotent simpleton you.
@EnrySimmersen - if you're such a winner, then leave, you won't be missed, just like no one cares about Wells, they don't care about your opinions. Who the FUCK cares about Scottish tracks you halfwit, if their tracks were shite, they why believe they spent a damn thing on timing systems? hand-timed 9.2s..whoa really impressive...BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
@EnrySimmersen - Oh, BTW, you simpleton... that 9.2 was WIND-AIDED!
16 Aug 1980 - 9.2w 3.1 (wind) Allan Wells (SCO) Edinburgh
LOL! Wow, 3.1 wind REAL IMPRESSIVE...he was SO FAST...when it was WINDY!
Christ, you CLAIM to know something about track, but you want to try to pass off a wind-aided time as legit? You've LOST ALL CREDIBILITY, you're a fucking joke...NOW you can leave in shame.
@broadjumper1 So the fuck what moron, wind aided or not it was still achieved and again you knew about it, so wheres the problem? What a sensitive bag of crap you are, and you're the one with the loss of credibility as you have been bullshitting since comment 1 about everything that we have been talking about, and im going nowhere shitty fingers, unless you want to do something about it. No! Didnt think so, gutless bag of shit.
@EnrySimmersen - So what the fuck asswipe? Why not give all wind-aided times the same credence as those below 2.0? Where's the problem? The problem is this proves Wells was nothing more than a mediocre sprinter with average speed at best, but you'll keep licking his ass trying to convince someone, ANYONE that he was something more than LUCKY. His name belongs in trivial pursuit more than the Olympic rolls....go ahead, let's see what you'll try to pass off next...
@broadjumper1 Who the fuck cares shitty, like i say you're here bumping up the views and i'm loving it. You've run out of steam several pages back and you're upset and sullen in you're comments, its all i expected from a syphillis faced hickey like you, yet you still walk blindly in with your liquid of the arse, and you still cant explain yourself been a piece of shit putting down a man that has achieved more than you'll ever dream of. And its Floyd that would be in trivial pursuit...
@EnrySimmersen - And yet, Floyd would have destroyed "The Beast" on the world stage. After losing out on the games, he just didn't care, no matter if you believe otherwise, you're a halfwit, we understand your intellect is severely limited.
@broadjumper1 LOOL! I've been doing push ups and sit ups in between your crappy comments, and i'm having fun. Why? Because every time you come stuck. Wells beat Floyd you mentally backward individual you, and you know it, and to say he didnt care is the utmost in stupidity and lies, tell me once does a world class athlete not care when they are beaten? Never! Only in your pea brained imagination.
@EnrySimmersen - Push ups? LOL dude, like most Brits you're doing Guinness curls. You've must be intensely lonely to keep begging for my attention..You simply can't get through your booze addled brain that it doesn't matter if Wells beat Floyd in other races. The ONE race that mattered, Floyd wasn't allowed to run. What happened after mattered little. But as did Floyd ranked #1, it's clear the experts believe he would have won. The opinion of a drunk, childish halfwit like you doesn't matter.
@EnrySimmersen - Christ you're a MORON...multiple post (like ours) DON'T bump views...I'm hardly out of steam, I simply just don't care. You've run out of anything rational, interesting or even remotely funny hours ago. Now all you've got left are lame, childish insults that are so unfunny, even a 4 yr old would roll their eyes at you...all because someone doesn't think much of your wet-dream hero...talk about a small mind, matches your small dick, but you're a catcher, not a pitcher, no matter.
@broadjumper1 Wells is a Legend! Pure and simple, and will always be remembered as the Olympic champion from 1980. It's IOC recognised and AAA's recognised, the rest doesnt matter a shit because you're nothing but superficious. Why? Tell me every sprinter that ever ran faster and what they achieved in their career? Many would of been doped and had very short careers, but go ahead, name me those many sprinters that went faster than Wells, i bet you can't, yet you remember Wells though dont you?
@EnrySimmersen - Legend? BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Thanks! That's the best laugh I've had since you claimed to have knowledge about track! He'll always be remembered as guy who was in the right place at the right time who ran against competition, most of who couldn't beat our best high school sprinters! And it's easy for you to claim doping, that's a simple catch all excuse for losers...to tell you every sprinter who when faster and acheived more would take WEEKS and you're hardly worth the effort.
@broadjumper1 I know you encourage the dopers and the profesionalism of the sport which only comes to greed, and then the athlete thinks he's bigger than the Sport and the rot sets, that's you're concept of it, which is shit just like you.
Of course Wells had luck, but he was also accomplished. His medals didnt come easy and to go into the competition with a pb of 10.15 whilst Leonard, Lara, Mennea and Woronin were faster was an incredible feat.
@EnrySimmersen - Riight, more of your typical whining...like all little girls. I got news for ya Nigel, accusations aren't proof of cheating And don't blame the rest of these athletes that the could all run rings around Wells. But then i gues he NEVER took a dime for any of his wins did he? Christ, you're a moron. Accomplished my ass, take away his Olympic walkovers and he's basically an unknown also ran...
@broadjumper1 But you know him and you're a foreigner, and Wells was paid for appearances. Koblenz, Nice and Switzerland he was paid in 80. Later on he got more. He advertised Water, Supermarkets and done a lot for kids on drugs that made the TV and radio, but it never made him a millionaire, it was his job which got him his money and fair play, but the only reason you're been abusive is because i'm not taking any of youre old gonads, and you hate it. Later.
@EnrySimmersen - I know him as I've followed track for 40+ years, I also know Peter Radford, Colin Jackson and Lynn Davies, (Wells shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath), so that means nothing. The point is NO ONE ever mentions him when discussing the GREATEST of all time. The reason I'm 'abusive' is because you're being an asshole, but I don't consider Wells a GREAT Olympic champion is because he ISN'T, you know the truth, you HATE it but lack the gonads to admit it. Piss off wanker.
@EnrySimmersen - I've been a fan for 40+ years, I know Wells, but I also know Peter Radford, Daley Thompson, Colin Jackson and Lynn Davies, so knowing Wells is nothing. (except his name doesn't belong with their's). His name isn't mentioned when speaking of the all-time greats, he's nothing but the answer to a trivia question. I'm abusive because you're being an asshole, but I won't call Wells because great he's NOT and you hate it. You know the truth, you lack the gonads to admit it. Piss off.
@EnrySimmersen - Bob Hayes Carl Lewis Michael Johnson Usain Bolt Maurice Greene Frank Fredericks Ato Boldon Donovan Bailey Jim Hines Valeriy Borzov Pietro Mennea Mike Marsh Tommie Smith Don Quarrie That's just for starters...
@broadjumper1 What about: The Outlaw Josey Wales? Shane? Blazing Saddles? The Magnificent Seven? If you're going to stick with Wayne (my pick for top film star of all time), then I'd go with The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, which featured a guy who may well have been an Olympic gold medallist in the decathlon had he been given the opportunity, Woody Strode.
@seanofafrica - People may accuse me of blasphemy, but his spaghetti westerns aside, I've never been that impressed by Eastwood's westerns. I liked OJW and Unforgiven, but they don't rise to all-time great status.. The best Wayne westerns imo are:
1. The Searchers
2. Stagecoach
3. Red River
4. True Grit
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance was a fine film, but it was as much a Jimmy Stewart vehicle as Wayne's. Blazing Saddles may be the best Western comedy of all time along with Cat Ballou.
@seanofafrica - As for Woody Strode, his best was Sergeant Rutledge and of course his seminal role was the Ethiopian gladiator Draba, in Spartacus. And of course he was an outstanding athlete. An interesting story about Spartacus is that that the role was initially offered to Rafer Johnson who had to turn in down because he would have lost his amateur status. Incidentally, Strode never made it to the '36 Olympic trials some stories say because he was required to take a courses at UCLA.
@broadjumper1 I didn't know that about Rafer Johnson, though I'd have given the role to Woody in the first place. In Strode's autobiography GOLD DUST, he says, 'The school said I needed another half-unit to maintain my eligibility. So I took a shop class, and never went to the [1936] Olympics'. He also says that Hitler commissioned two paintings of him! And that he'd have gone to the 1940s games had they not been cancelled. Back to Rafer Johnson and amateurism, do you know of The Ghost Runner?
@seanofafrica - The story of Rafer being offered the role is recounted in David Maraniss' book: "Rome 1960, The Olympics that Changed the World." Another athlete who was suspended for "using his celebrity for financial gain", wax Lee Calhoun the '56 & '60 Olympic Champion. He suspended in 1958 for receiving gifts on "Bride and Groom," a TV game show of that time. And you're speaking of John Tarrant, the ghost runner? Yes, a sad story. One of many screwed over by Brundage's IOC. Rotten bastard.
@seanofafrica - Speaking of Strode, I can't find any report of what he scored in a decathlon, ever see any? he might have had a hard time beating Glenn Morris and by 1940, there was another great decathlete named Bill Watson (who was also black) and he won the 1940 A.A.U. decathlon by 800 points with a score over 7,500 and set two event records 100m (10.8) and discus (151' 4").
@broadjumper1 ...as he wasnt seen on the world stage, but he didnt shirk anyone, he proved this in 83 and was never afraid of getting beat. That's the thing about greatness you're a good winner and a good loser, only a few have it, Wells was one.
@EnrySimmersen - I'll give Wells this, he did face everyone he could and he didn't duck anyone. For that, he deserves respect. I still wouldn't call him as a 'great', perhaps an 'almost great', but I respect him more than guys like Usain Bolt, a GREAT sprinter, but a so-so human being...
@broadjumper1 Do you know what the results were in their home championships? Also, is there any footage of Wiley's (1981?) World Cup 400m victory? His style was so silky smooth.
@seanofafrica - The results weren't particularly good as it was rainy and cold with a -1.5 headwind. 1. 20.49 James Butler 2. 20.54 Cliff Wiley 3. 20.70 Fred Taylor 4. 20.73 LaMonte King 5. 20.82 Willie Gault 6. 20.83 Dwayne Evans 7. 20.91 Mark Duper 8. 21.16 Otis Melvin Nope, don't know of any footage of Wiley's 400.
Yes an interesting final with, Gault (who STILL runs today in masters competitions and can run under 11.00 at age 50), 27' long jumper LaMonte King, Dwayne Evans, the '76 200m bronze medalist, and Mark Duper, future All-Pro wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins.
@seanofafrica - Yes he holds the age group 100m WR (10.88) and 200m (22.44). He also ran the 200 with a 23.61 semi-final (before breaking down and finishing last in the final) and he ran lead off in the M50 4x100 whch won in 45.92
@broadjumper1 Where did the 10.20 and 10.22 come from you prat, they were flat out at 10.25, they wouldnt have gone any quicker, Arsewipe, you're a waste of rations and time, but your number has been and always will be taken out.
@EnrySimmersen - Where did they come from? Oh, Please if you're gonna pull the placings outta yer ass, then it's completely feasible to suggest that with the US sprinters the race would have been faster...Flat out? LOL. Funny..the woman's final was JUST as fast as the previous games, yet the men's was the SLOWEST in 20 years...Arsehole, you lose IQ points with every dump, so time you visited the loo again, huh?
@EnrySimmersen - You should get a refund on you time machine Skippy, the real results would have been a 1-2 US sweep with times below 10.20, at least 2-3 in the 200 and 1 gold in the relay...
5 medals in two races, two Gold for the US and the Brits would have been fortunate to have 2 of any color...one thing's for certain, you'll never be that fortunate again, unless of course a Boycott is called and EVERYONE except the UK stays away...
Oh, and there was also a West German sprinter at Koblenz, German champion named Christian Haas, finished 4th in the final, but he was ahead of Carl Lewis 5th and Harvey Glance 6th, good boy. LOOOL!
I also find you amusing Longjumper, you dont know it but the more times you comment the more views and comments Allan Wells gets. What's the old saying, any publicity is good publicity, so comment away. Dont forget your bottle of two-and-six either, after all you must be a liquer drinker, you definetely talk like one. See you hippy.
Now its these races that put Wells as a World Class sprinter as well as Moscow. He beat everybody from Mennea, Quarrie and Crawford to Carl Lewis, Christie (In 86) and Stanely Floyd. Now you can call that whatever you want, but all it does is mark you as shit pure and simple, i along with many others would call Wells performances as World Class. Period.
@EnrySimmersen - You're not listening, hardly surprising, I didn't say Wells wasn't world class. I said he wasn't impressive, the 80 final was as sloooow as molassaes and at least two of the three American sprinters could have beaten him if not all three. that you keep trying to prop him up as something more than a slightly better than average sprinter marks you as shit pure and simple. Whine all you wish, but that doesn't change anything.
@EnrySimmersen - Wrong again, stop obfuscating. Go back and SHOW me where I ever said Wells wasn't world class, that's just another one of your lies attempting to discredit me by putting worlds in my mouth. A world class athlete is ANY athlete that competes in world competition capable of winning, but that doesn't mean they're particularly impressive ..and yes, there is a wind, I can hear it whistling through your ears 'cause of that empty head of yours...
@broadjumper1 As i say i dont always prop Wells up, i was one of his biggest critics, and believed he could of done even more than he did. He was also a pure athlete, and proof of this came in Moscow when the officials told him to stop keep going into the druggy rooms every time he had to go for a wee.
I know you will object to Moscow's drug testing techniques, but it was no better than LA.
And admittedly Wells went out in the semi's in LA, but through the heats he was looking good, but he...
...was injured, and the Wells in the semi, wasnt the full fit Wells he normally was, but he ran in the relay as a finalist, but to little effect. He was finished by that time anyway, but were straying, it's 1980,81 were talking, and Wells was number 1 all the way, and it was proved not just on a 1 off, but in the biggest competitions of the year.
In 79 Mennea had run 10.01, Eugene Ray in 80 had run 10.18 and Crawford and Gilkes had both run 10.19 in 80 also, and none of them made the Olympic final, so where were these fine athletes peak?
Mennea's best days were clearly behind him and he was a 200m specialist in any event. Crawford was in his third final and also past his prime at 30. Able to run an occasional fast race, but not multiple rounds. Gilkes was a talented but terribly inconsistent sprinter who had peaked in '78 and also lost out to a boycott. Same with Ray, he peaked in '77, never running faster but at least he got the chance.
I certainly wouldn't argue that Wells was one of the greatest Olympic 100m champions as neither would have been any of the Americans that might have beaten him. Between Hines and Lewis the US produced a lot of very good sprinters like Hart, Williams, Riddick, Glance, Edwards, Sanford, Floyd and Lattany but no really great ones.
@trickygoose2 - This discussion isn't about whether any of the US sprinters would have been greater than Wells, we'll never know since they all lost their chance. But I do believe most on that list would have beaten Wells. But truth be told had any of them been allowed to run in the 80 games they might have been able to sustain longer careers. This was at a time when professionalism still wasn't truly allowed in track, at least in the US.
@trickygoose2 - Track was certainly a 'pro' sport around the world before it was allowed to be in the US. That didn't actually occur until the passage of the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, which effectively muted the restraints the AAU used to put on so-called amateur sports, but this legislation still took time to unfold the changes, so it wasn't until the early-80s that US athletes really benefited in a big way. And yes, it did prolong our athlete's careers.
Until 1981 the IAAF (then the International AMATEUR Athletics Federation) rules forbade allm payments to athletes other than expenses.
I remember 1976 Olympic 110m Hurdles champion Guy Drut getting a life ban (later rescinded) for receiving payments. In the UK I remember that track & field athletes competing in the TV show Superstars could not compete in any athletic event against professional sportsmen (e.g. soccer & tennis players) even if it was a shot putter doing 100m.
@trickygoose2 - And most of these athletes superseded the rule by having the payments made to their 'track clubs' - which had all of ONE athlete in them. The same thing that you're speaking of happen to Dwight Stones. The money he earned by winning the Superstars earned him a suspension and forfeiture of his winnings.
I'm well award of "The Superstars." This started the era of 'trash-sports' Entertaining but not real great competition.
Weels hardly made a friggin penny from his sprinting. He was at the end of his carrer before money/sponsors ruined athletics. He worked as an industrial chemist all his career and still does now he's 23 years retired from sprinting. Of course I like him and am proud he bagged the 100m golsd in 1980. Wells was KING of 1980.
I agree with you, Wells was asked after he retired if he had any regrets in his career?
He answered back that he wouldnt have trained as hard as he did.
And the 10.11 he ran in the second round could of been a 10.08, but he eased right at the finish if i remember correctly.
He was capable of a 9.9 back then, and he would of been today as well. Afterall if Lemaitre could do it so could Wells, Lemaitre was certainly no better despite his times in the sprints.
rc addict must reply as your comment showed up in my messages. Look, Wells was as good as possible back then. For the late 70/s early 80/s he was a top sprinter. You might as well apply your critisism to ALL athletes of the past. None of them match todays but most of today's sprinters are druggies anyway. Wells WASN'T. The man never touched them. And if wells were in his 20's today with 21st century training/diet etc he would run sub 10sec. Of course he would
There is no reason for argument here - Wells beat those that were present on the day. It was bitterly disappointing for him and all of us fans that the USA chose not to participate on political grounds - a gesture that was really utterly futile. Thatcher also wanted to keep us out - but the BOC disagreed and we went thank goodness. The Russians put on a splendid games, bravo to them and it's tough cookie for all those that did not join in the party on account of a few hypocritical politicians.
Agree with your comment, it was a great shame that some missed out but to use the rankings system to judge the best sprinters is a nonsence.
Example, in 81 Wells fastest legal time was 10.17, Lewis was 10.00, Lattany 10.04, Floyd had a quicker time also, but Wells beat all of them that year in big competitions in Germany, Rome and Brussels.
After Moscow in Koln, Germany during the real Olympic Games according to US athletics at the time Wells beat Floyd 10.19 to 10.21 which was a fantastic night for British athletics and i for one remember the night well and it won't and can't be ignored or forgotten and is one of the reasons why Wells was a great champion.
But i'll let Mel Latany (3rd that night) have the final say, afterwards he went up to Wells shaking his hand and the man sincerely told him that he thoroughly thought he...
...deserved his Gold and Silver in Moscow, as for Floyd he was disgusted and wanted a rerun and an inquiry showing also his immaturity and worthlessness as a bad loser.
Yes it means a lot to us, it's nothing to bj1, of course its nothing to him, he's an American and cannot and will not see that other view, proof of his shallowness, backwardness and lack of integrity, but i hope the hatred and contempt in him will be doused one day, because it cant do him any good.
@Woodlander65 - I never claimed Wells didn't deserve his medals, he won the race against those who were allowed to run. As for how Floyd may allegedly have reacted or what Lattany allegedly said, it has nothing to do with the belief that the Olympic 100 might have turned out differently if they had run.
@Woodlander65 - Your whining is typical of those who generally feel inferior, that's why you so staunchly defend this rather dubious achievement, but deep down you know that it was a hollow victory. This has nothing to do with hate, but you're so blinded by your overt nationalism that you refuse to see the facts. As for who's espousing hatred and contempt, try reading over your own comments and you'll see who's doin the hatin'...but at least they're good for a chuckle...
@Woodlander65 - And as I've told you, I'm aware of their post Games competitions. But the truth is that the American boycott was announced well in advance of the US Trials which were held in April, so there wasn't incentive to for US sprinters to train or run as hard as if they'd been permitted to compete. It's my contention that things might have been different had the best US sprinters had been there, and that's a common belief, no matter if it rubs you the wrong way or not.
@Woodlander65 - In truth, Wells was a decent, but hardly impressive sprinter. It's difficult to laud too much praise upon a sprinter with a lifetime best of 10.11 & 20.21. it'd closer to say he was a great champion when compared to other British and Western European sprinters. He was fortunate indeed that the boycott aided his bid to win the 100m gold.
At this time no man had broken 10.00 other than at high altitude so 10.11 was definitely a top class time in world terms. I also don't think sub 20.00 for 200m was run until Mennea ran it after the Moscow Olympics.
@trickygoose2 - While it's true that no man had broken 10.00 at sea-level, several men were close and some ran multiple races faster than 10.11. Given that this 10.11 was Wells' ONLY legal performance under 10.20, he simply wasn't near top-class in time, just not a very impressive sprinter. Same goes for the 200, while no one broke the 'standards' of 10.00 or 20.00 at sea-level, this fact alone doesn't make Wells an impressive sprinter, rather one who was in the right place at the right time.
Not true-he also legally 10.15 twice, 10.17, 10.18 and 10.19. He raced Stanley Floyd twice after Moscow in 1980 & they won 1 each. Nobody will ever know who would have won a boycott-free Olympics that year but Wells would have been very much a contender.
Based in Scotland with no GP circuit until the very end of his career, Wells wouldn't have had that many opportunities to run fast times under legal conditions. Athletes based in the southern states of the USA would have more.
@trickygoose2 - I'm well aware of his victory over Floyd, and I still maintain that those races were pretty meaningless given that when the US atheletes knew their shot was over, they rest of their season was pretty much just going through the motions...Wells would have been a contender to medal, but most likely bronze, not gold. Sorry, but the slowest winning time in 20 years is more than enough proof that Wells can't be considered among the greatest 100 meter champions in Olympic history.
Those races were arguably at least as meaningless for Wells who had already achieved his main aim for the year. Surely the US sprinters would be motivated to beat the guy who'd become Olympic champion in their absence?
@trickygoose2 - And? Of course they were meaningless for Wells, but he has pride, just like all athletes and he didn't want to get shown up. Did the Americans want to win, of course they did, but you're REALLY gonna suggest the thought of beating Wells in some utterly meaningless race was enough to inspire the American sprinters to train just as hard as they would have to win an Olympic Gold medal??? Get outta town...they were no where NEAR their best physically or mentally.
@trickygoose2 - And as far as not having opportunities, I'm not buying that. There's been a major track & field circuitt in Europe for DECADES. Plus Wells had the UK Championships, the Commonwealth Games, etc. Perhaps the conditions wouldn't have been as favorable, as other wamer weather countries, but once would still expect more tha just a handful of sub 10.20 times in career of a top-flight sprinter, even in the 80s.
@broadjumper1 - Wells ran his fair share of 10.2s, as did Floyd and Lattany at the time if i remember right. I can remember Floyd winning races in Berlin, Athens and Italy in 1980, and he ran in the 10.3 mark each time, but it was all he needed at the time, as did Wells.
But it's interesting that none of the Americans ran as quick as 10.11 in Europe that year. Nearest was 10.13 by Floyd.
@EnrySimmersen - You clearly aren't hearing (reading) what I'm saying, once the boycott came down, most American Olympic level athletes were clearly not training with the commitment they had previously since their ultimate goal had been stolen from them so it's hardly surprising any marks they recorded in late 1980 were mediocre at best...but none of this makes Wells' marks any more impressive.
@broadjumper1 - Oh yes they were training hard with the dedication they always had. Floyd ran a 10.13 in Switzerland after Moscow, so dont talk to me about lack of commitment and dedication, they came to Europe to set the record straight, and it meant a lot to them and was very significent to the sprinting season. Great year for the sprints 80 was. But it wasnt mediocre, not by a long shot. World class, a joy to watch and remember.
@broadjumper1 Now that is outstanding sprinting by world standards.
And i'm not buying your guessing either if there had been no boycott. But if were going to i would say Floyd would of picked the bronze medal up in Moscow, after all it was Silvio Leonard who was the daddy with his 9.98 in 77.
But the races after Moscow werent meaningless, not to the American sprinters that came over to attempt to take the shine off Wells achievements, but couldnt. Easy to say now that they were meaningless.
@EnrySimmersen - I never claimed Well's wasn't generally consistent, but consistent isn't outstanding. I don't care if you believe Wells still would have won, but you can't judge how others might have performed based upon Leonard's 9.98 from years earlier, that has no bearing on his fitness 3 years later. Yes, the races after Moscow were meaningless. They were at best a chance to earn a few bucks, but no Olympic medals. No matter what they did AFTER Moscow, it wouldn't have really mattered.
@broadjumper1 That's just your opinion and sour grapes perhaps, but i do believe Wells would of won. He was at his peak physically and mentally, and he would of done the same in Moscow as he did in Koblenz. I dont think Floyd would of done it, Bronze at best, but he was a fine sprinter and achieved much in the states, but he would of met his match in moscow.
@EnrySimmersen - Nothing sour about it. It doesn't bother me in the least that Wells has his Gold medal, stop being so fucking defensive. You're free to believe what you wish and Wells may have been in fine shape, but 10.25 wins and 10.39 places? Hell, even the women's race's were more competitive. Any one of the three Americans on the team could have won that race...what pisses you off is that anyone has the temerity to question WHY it was the slowest final in 20 years...

Wells was a long jumper first and only took to sprinting later. A Scottish great.

Same with the 200.
1. Mennea 20.19.
2.Wells 20.21.
3. Quarrie 20.29.
4. Leonard 20.30.
5. Evans US 20.42ish.
6. Roberson US 20.47ish
7. Hoff East Germany 20.50
8. Lattany 20.55ish.
There you go, that's how it would have ended.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago

EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - Waaa, Waaa, Waaa, if I'm so boring, why bother responding...the truth is that it pisses you off that anyone would actually point out just how mediocre and unimpressive Wells was as a sprinter and claim that he's have been even MORE unknown had he not been fortunate enough to face mostly stiffs and past-their prime sprinters...there's a reason he doesn't get the credit YOU believe he deserves and that because there's not much credit to give.
Don't read 'em, I don't care.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 Careful old son, dont put all you're eggs in one basket, i thought you had already done the Waaa, Waaa number, it wasnt funny the first time and it hasnt improved any either the 2nd and 3rd attempts.
You dont care if i dont read your comments, well thats alright then, but i must disagree once more with you on your concept of credit giving. I give credit where its deserved and not more or less. Note i never gave any homage for 82, even if he was double Commonwealth Champion...
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - Who's cryin? Certainly not me...this is called conjecture, didn't you know? I don't spen a lot of time thinking about Floyd or Wells until someone sends me a nasty-gram because I wasn't impressed by his 100 win. And once again, don't feel like you've got to respond, I didn't ask you any questions...
And you can disagree with me all you wish. Give credit to whomever you see fit and I'll do likewise. In my book, Wells was the best of a so-so bunch in the 80 OG 100m.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 Of course i'll disagree with you all i wish, you're opinion is nothing to me, you're entitled to it and thats fine, but my yes means yes and my no, no, whether its Allan Wells been the best sprinter of 1980 to High Noon been the best western ever made, you see.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - Rightbackatcha slick. Wells wasn't ranked #1, didn't have the fastest time and faced a second-rate field...the experts put Wells at #2 for a reason.., you can debate it all you wish, but those in the know agreed with me. And the best western ever made? The Searchers, hands down.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 Never mind the rightbackatyou pony, Koblenz was the kiddie to win that year and it was bigger than any meeting in Europe that year, except Olympics, let it go, and start healing yourself. The Searchers, is that the one where John Waynes got a chapped arse all the way through.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago

EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - "Jimmy Carter said, any American that go's to Moscow would lose their passport. Well why didnt they then? "
Uh, ever TRY to travel internationally WITHOUT a passport? Nobody competed under the Olympic flag...Athletes have requested such permissions like James Gilkes in '76 and were turned down. This wasn't Russia's call, the USOC (under pressure from the US Goverment) turned down the US invitaton. At that point, had they tried, the IOC would have barred them.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 Just a thought, but it wasnt an impossible option, would of taken bollocks to do it though.
Yep, Koblenz was the biggy and it is remembered nicely, even the American boys referred it as the "real Olympics" thats not me saying it, but Floyd and co. Granted Wells was RANKED 2, but performed FIRST in his racing, even Lattany was big enough to see it, Floyd though acted like you like a big fanny.
Are you related? Dont be ashamed to confess it, he was a big fish in the US only.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - It's wasn't an option., they would have lost their passports indefinately. Koblenz was nothing, hardly remembered at all. Floyd tried to put a good face on it, but what he was thinking was" this is a bullshit consolation race" His BEST chance to parlay a career out of the Olympics was gone cause nobody cared about Koblenz, only a moron refuses see this...Wells was #2, period. No relation, but are you Wells lover? Dont be ashamed to confess, being queer's no crime.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 Nope, i love my women too much, sorry i couldnt be one of you, but there you have it. And how the hell do you know Floyd was thinking? It's you making tales up again isnt it?
Bullshit consolation race?
Welll! I'm sure you would like to think so. Or dream so.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - Please, the friggin UK is full of poofs, now that we know the truth about you, we understand why you're so infatuated with Wells..
Oh and how do I know...hmmm, let's see...Athletes like Bruce Jenner win OG gold and go off to make millions. Edwin Moses goes off to a HUGE career, Floyd's supposed to be happy with a bullshit consolation race that even if he wins, gets him NOTHING? Yes, consolation race, I'm sure you would like to think of it as more, but then you're a twit.
broadjumper1 1 year ago

Koblenz was shit.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - but had Floyd been permitted to run in Moscow and crushed Wells, Leonard and the rest of the field, he would have gone on to sprint stardom, earned shoe contracts and would have probably run at least through the 1984 season...but it kinda shows how most companies felt about Wells' win, that he wasn't able to capitalize of it one bit because the advertisers knew he was a paper champion....hell, even BORZOV was more famous and he was from a COMMUNIST country, LOL!
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 As i said earlier i only responded because i know my Athletics history, you told lies and were totally and still are misinformed of what was going on back then. I do remember interviews from many party's, discussions on World of Sport, witness to many of the races and followed it with enthusism, so i'm qualified in my right to comment on this as i please, and you? Well you have no say in it because you dont know enough about it and i've caught you out as the turd what you are.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - Please, you know shit about shit....all you've done is whine like a little poxy twat...you're entitled to an opinion, not your own facts...
Stop cryin, Wells is a forgotten pseudo-champion (everywhere except in the UK) who beat a depleted second rate field in the SLOWEST final in last FIFTY YEARS and who's 100 PR isn't even within the TOP 1,800 performances EVER...the TURD is Wells and you just keep tryin to polish up that turd. Go cry to someone who cares...LOL!
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 So what do you want? A tip? Fuck off you hypocritical wank stain of a mutt, you're nothing, i'm only here to boost Wells rankings and may i say you're doing supurb, so more of the same please, i'll bitch slap you on this subject forever more, you understand! Good boy.
And the way you talk of Ed Moses, like you have something in commen with him, LOOL! keep dreaming, the only thing you have in commen is your yanks, in your case a plank. Now you go off crying like a pansy boy.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - Awww, don't go away mad, just fuck off and die...;-) It seems you have a real difficult time when people don't show as much defference to your paper champion as you think they should, but the guy couldn't have even qualified to be on a US team, so it's a good thing the UK has such low standards...I'm soooo sorry you got your tended little feelings hurt, but NOTHING you say will boost Wells rankings...you understand? Good little girl.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 You're running out of steam i see, it's this thing in you're mind that i should be mad, but at what? I have right and you're wrong, simple. Wells was the best sprinter in the world in 80 81, and won all the biggest events, and the yanks couldnt do anything about it, so why would i be mad? Everythings gone my way, as i say i'm just keeping you around for laughs, nothing more.
No i didnt think you would understand about standard, and you still talk shite, its like reading...

LOL
Stop playin stink finger with your mum and you won't have to worry about all those annoying smells...
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 pseudo-champions, spoken like a true dumb-shit. Again you seem to be under the impression that you've carried any weight here, well you aint, and you do stink like a hoar in your comments, but that's you. I've picked up nothing from you and been none the wiser by your fluid faeces, but who cares, and i also know and like several other athletes as much if not more than i like Wells, Calvin Smith, Don Quarrie, Hedi Dressler and of course Ed.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - That's right a pseudo-champion, he won a race full of second tier sprinters in the slowest time of the last FIFTY years. Calling him a champion of any kind is generous. My opinion carries as much weight as yours on YouTube, I'm certain just like like I'm certain you're an expert on stinkin whores...you've picked up nothing because you're as dense as a brick, but YOU DO care, otherwise you'd have split hours ago, but at least you do appreciate some REAL champs, unlike Wells.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 You're shit just like i said, tell me you couldnt run for your life yet you dare criticise others, so its you whos the real stinking whore round here, but like i say you'll be forgotten in a minute, and if i stink then what are you hanging around here for? You are clear to bugger off if you dont like it. I know you havent got a job, just bummin around on welfare, eh fatso.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - Boo HOO,'enry the poof doesn't like meeee! Dude, I have nothing to prove to you, I'll bet you can stick up a room and have paid more for your whores than any living man, doesn't mean I won't comment if I feel like it, I couldn't give a fuck if you like it or not....your lame personal attacks are amusing, they're not the least bit witty...but who ever said Brits were supposed to sharp?
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 But all said and done you do appreciate Wells, i know you do, you appreciate a real champion i see that in you. You're definetely in the right place, dummy.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - I recognize the fact that he was able to win a race at a depleted Olympic Games. His win was the equivalent of running in a race of British school girls with but one other world class male opponent. That means I have only slightly more respect for him than some halfwit like you, which ain't much.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 Halfwit am i? But i've been carrying and taking you out for the last few hours. LOOL You're more discredited by the second, and i dont want you're respect, as i keep telling you, you're nothing to me, and you know nothing either just like your comments.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - Yep halfwit, and that's a generous assessment. The mere fact you believe lame insults and self-aggrandizement counts as making salient points in any discussion only proves that you've been out of your depth for hours...no matter how much you whine, I'm not going to change my opinion of your pseudo-champion and nothing you've spewed will raise his profile.
And if you think my previous statement means I respect you, you're dumber than I already knew. You're truly clueless...
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 You're the only clueless one here, son, i've answered your doubts and more on this discussion and i'm actually chuffed at once again taking you out on this. And as i say i dont give a damn about your respect, or what you listen to, or your opinion, blah de blah, de shagging blah, you're a tool in your mindset and understand and know nothing, infact you're starting to repeat yourself, which makes you an incredibly boring numpty, so i'm taking the dog out, you dont get anything.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - More logical fallacies, that's all you've got left. You've answered NOTHING, just tried to throw up smokescreen, make excuses and childish insults. If you can't deal with someone talking down your pseudochamp, too bad, but you'll need to learn to deal with it. So take your dog out, If sure he'll be even more bored with your company than I am, but at least he knows how to respond to you, by dropping a load, that's GOTTA be more interesting than your shit
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 Yet again you cant answer the key questions. What a tool.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - When does a world class athlete care if he loses?
When he's told the BEST he'll be allowed to compete in is some consolation meet untelevised in the US, where he'll be awarded NO Olympic medal and no one really cares how he does and this happens through no fault of his own. Yet again, you FAIL understand what an athlete who's worked his whole life for feels when his goal and FUTURE is STOLEN away and given to an inferior athlete...what an asshole, go walk your dog, halfwit.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 I wasnt happy about the boycott either and wanted everybody there, but it didnt happen, but they never gave up did they, they came back and rightfully so and went after the best, and it was televised in the UK and it was very popular at the time, but you're in no position to tell who's inferior in Athletics, it's you who is inferior and bitter, now go wash, tosspot.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - Your particular feelings about the boycott aren't particularly important since your athletes weren't effected, but mostly benefited as your medals won improved by over 60%. I didn't say the meet wasn't televised, but that it wasn't televised in the US., can you READ ENGLISH? And I'm in a perfect position to jugde who's inferior, even the experts agreed in the rankings. Now fuck off halfwit....
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 We all know what you would do, lie down and give up just like you've stated, but Floyd and Lattany came out in Koblenz stating that this was the real Olympic Games and their hearts were in it, there's no doubt about it because i remember watching it avidly. It's only you who wont acknowledge it for what it truly was, only you, which puts you in the wilderness and makes you look pathetic and stupid.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - An area of your expertise, lying down and giving it up, you like making the poofs work easy indeed. But what you claim to remember is meaningless without proof. There's no reason to acknowledge something unproven as fact. Your compulsion to to lie tells us not to believe a thing you say. It would be humorous if it wasn't so pathetic, but it PROVES you're a halfwit with a psychosexal obsession with Wells in particular and men in general. Stay away you sick, twisted freak
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 See what i mean? Thick as shit you are, with an understanding of nothing. And you are decisively inferior, and i'm here right now to tell you you are. Typical Dumbarse yank with fuck all to say of any interest to anybody.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - See what I mean? You're a fucking halfwit...you're so far out of your depth on this discussion, it's like shooting some very dumb fish in a barrel...Typical English poof, whines and cries like a little bitch, never saying anything of substance to anyone.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 Obsessed much! LOL!
2. Koblenz.
Now i'm dismissing you, case closed.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - I've debunked your pathetic theories & exposed your lies, all you have left are lame insults, but mental putrefaction explains your lack of intelligent responses. The experts knew Wells faced a crap OG field and would have otherwise been the loser, just like YOU are!
Three facts shoots your bullshit down:
1. Floyd ranked #1
2. Wells ran the slowest final in the last 50 years
3. Well's PR is so SLOW, it doesn't crack the top 1,800 all-time. Now, you're finished.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 = the Idiot, who else would use the word inferior to the differences of 10.07 and 10.11, 4 hundreths of a second, hardly worlds a part. But you're a cretin, nothing more to teach you now. Out.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen = painfully stupid. Who else would consider Wells an equal when he never came close to breaking 10.0, in fact NEVER broke.10.1 and who's PR isn't among the top 1,800 ever run, while Floyd and Lattany ran much faster (10.03 & 9.96) in their careers. Hell, we've have highschoolers run faster than 10.11, LOL!
Wells was a pseudochampion who's biggest accomplishment was nothing more than the luck of the draw.
You're a mouthbreathing cretin with some sick, sexual crush on Wells.

@OurManInMarrakessh Enjoy the greats? Fucking Lol! Borzov beat a watered down weak field(no Hart, Robinson, Quarrie, Crawford) in a pedestrian time. Mennea? Sure, he'll beat Bolt, Gay, Powell, Blake.

Visionary0001 1 year ago
@Visionary0001 LOOL! It wasnt Mennea who didnt use starting blocks, you simpleton, it was Wells right up to the 80 Olympics.
Talk about the racist blind leading the blind, or in you're case a damp squib!

Visionary0001 1 year ago
@Visionary0001 Almost never used? A moment ago it was running his sprints with NO starting blocks, period. Which is it? Again, it was Wells that didnt use the starting blocks in his races right up till 80.
Me biased? Thats rich coming from the most biased nation of all time.
In what? It's the Americans that are the ones that are obsessed with Wells and moscow, not the Brits.
And you a knowledgeable student?

randomperson331 9 months ago
@EnrySimmersen - Hardly, but we see you're still full of hot air and whines...Wells wasn't the best in 1980/81, in fact, he was only the best in 200 ONE year (1981) and NEVER was ranked #1 in the 100....I'm RIGHT and you're WRONG, plain and simple...simple, just like your intellect.
Wells is barely a footnote in Olympic history...no suprise since women now are almost as fast as he was..;-P
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - Oh and I never claimed anything n common with Moses, only that NONE of your athletes do either..after all HE was a REAL Champion...
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 But the Americans would of done nothing, nothing, i'm absolutely 100% confident on this, Floyd would of been rocked from the start just like koblenz. He couldnt even double up in both sprints, as the Golden Sprints proved a year later, live with it homo, because it was Allan Wells who was the real champ, you're just envious because of the boycott. Fact.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - WHO cares what you're confident of, the rest of the world AND the experts who did he rankings are apparently smarter and more skeptical than a jock-sniffer like you. Live with it poofta, you've sidled up to the second biggest fraud in Olympic sprint history, second only to Ben Johnson. Allan Wells was time was SO SLOW that he would have barely defeated Armin Harry's time from TWENTY YEARS earlier and run on a CINDER track! LOL!
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 Wells did run on poorly maintained tracks you simpleton, in Edinburgh he ran a 9.2 100 yards in may of 80, and that track at Meadowbank was 30 years behind the times, so stop commenting on what you know nothing about, lets see what Harie could of done or Floyd for that matter at Meadowbank, you dont know you're born with that track, or Grangemouth, where Wells ran some tremendous times in the sprints.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - Christ, you're an IDIOT. Was the Moscow track poorly maintained? NO, the fucking thing was virtually new! Stop being such a whiny little bitch. The guy ran DOZENS of races and wasn't able to come CLOSE to sub 10.1 without a fucking hurricane wind behind him but ONE time, so stop commenting on things you know nothing about.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 Again i have countered you decisively and you hate it with a vengence. I was talking of Scottish tracks you flidomite, not Moscow, again youre not listening, well let me pay you back in kind you impotent simpleton you.

@EnrySimmersen - if you're such a winner, then leave, you won't be missed, just like no one cares about Wells, they don't care about your opinions. Who the FUCK cares about Scottish tracks you halfwit, if their tracks were shite, they why believe they spent a damn thing on timing systems? hand-timed 9.2s..whoa really impressive...BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - Oh, BTW, you simpleton... that 9.2 was WIND-AIDED!
16 Aug 1980 - 9.2w 3.1 (wind) Allan Wells (SCO) Edinburgh
LOL! Wow, 3.1 wind REAL IMPRESSIVE...he was SO FAST...when it was WINDY!
Christ, you CLAIM to know something about track, but you want to try to pass off a wind-aided time as legit? You've LOST ALL CREDIBILITY, you're a fucking joke...NOW you can leave in shame.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 So the fuck what moron, wind aided or not it was still achieved and again you knew about it, so wheres the problem? What a sensitive bag of crap you are, and you're the one with the loss of credibility as you have been bullshitting since comment 1 about everything that we have been talking about, and im going nowhere shitty fingers, unless you want to do something about it. No! Didnt think so, gutless bag of shit.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - So what the fuck asswipe? Why not give all wind-aided times the same credence as those below 2.0? Where's the problem? The problem is this proves Wells was nothing more than a mediocre sprinter with average speed at best, but you'll keep licking his ass trying to convince someone, ANYONE that he was something more than LUCKY. His name belongs in trivial pursuit more than the Olympic rolls....go ahead, let's see what you'll try to pass off next...

broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 LOOL! I've been doing push ups and sit ups in between your crappy comments, and i'm having fun. Why? Because every time you come stuck. Wells beat Floyd you mentally backward individual you, and you know it, and to say he didnt care is the utmost in stupidity and lies, tell me once does a world class athlete not care when they are beaten? Never! Only in your pea brained imagination.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - Push ups? LOL dude, like most Brits you're doing Guinness curls. You've must be intensely lonely to keep begging for my attention..You simply can't get through your booze addled brain that it doesn't matter if Wells beat Floyd in other races. The ONE race that mattered, Floyd wasn't allowed to run. What happened after mattered little. But as did Floyd ranked #1, it's clear the experts believe he would have won. The opinion of a drunk, childish halfwit like you doesn't matter.

EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - Legend? BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Thanks! That's the best laugh I've had since you claimed to have knowledge about track! He'll always be remembered as guy who was in the right place at the right time who ran against competition, most of who couldn't beat our best high school sprinters! And it's easy for you to claim doping, that's a simple catch all excuse for losers...to tell you every sprinter who when faster and acheived more would take WEEKS and you're hardly worth the effort.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 I know you encourage the dopers and the profesionalism of the sport which only comes to greed, and then the athlete thinks he's bigger than the Sport and the rot sets, that's you're concept of it, which is shit just like you.
Of course Wells had luck, but he was also accomplished. His medals didnt come easy and to go into the competition with a pb of 10.15 whilst Leonard, Lara, Mennea and Woronin were faster was an incredible feat.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - Riight, more of your typical whining...like all little girls. I got news for ya Nigel, accusations aren't proof of cheating And don't blame the rest of these athletes that the could all run rings around Wells. But then i gues he NEVER took a dime for any of his wins did he? Christ, you're a moron. Accomplished my ass, take away his Olympic walkovers and he's basically an unknown also ran...
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 But you know him and you're a foreigner, and Wells was paid for appearances. Koblenz, Nice and Switzerland he was paid in 80. Later on he got more. He advertised Water, Supermarkets and done a lot for kids on drugs that made the TV and radio, but it never made him a millionaire, it was his job which got him his money and fair play, but the only reason you're been abusive is because i'm not taking any of youre old gonads, and you hate it. Later.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - I know him as I've followed track for 40+ years, I also know Peter Radford, Colin Jackson and Lynn Davies, (Wells shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath), so that means nothing. The point is NO ONE ever mentions him when discussing the GREATEST of all time. The reason I'm 'abusive' is because you're being an asshole, but I don't consider Wells a GREAT Olympic champion is because he ISN'T, you know the truth, you HATE it but lack the gonads to admit it. Piss off wanker.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - I've been a fan for 40+ years, I know Wells, but I also know Peter Radford, Daley Thompson, Colin Jackson and Lynn Davies, so knowing Wells is nothing. (except his name doesn't belong with their's). His name isn't mentioned when speaking of the all-time greats, he's nothing but the answer to a trivia question. I'm abusive because you're being an asshole, but I won't call Wells because great he's NOT and you hate it. You know the truth, you lack the gonads to admit it. Piss off.

@seanofafrica - Loved GBU, but as that was a Spaghetti western filmed primarily in Spain, I can't place it #1.
broadjumper1 5 months ago
@broadjumper1 What about: The Outlaw Josey Wales? Shane? Blazing Saddles? The Magnificent Seven? If you're going to stick with Wayne (my pick for top film star of all time), then I'd go with The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, which featured a guy who may well have been an Olympic gold medallist in the decathlon had he been given the opportunity, Woody Strode.
seanofafrica 5 months ago
@seanofafrica - People may accuse me of blasphemy, but his spaghetti westerns aside, I've never been that impressed by Eastwood's westerns. I liked OJW and Unforgiven, but they don't rise to all-time great status.. The best Wayne westerns imo are:
1. The Searchers
2. Stagecoach
3. Red River
4. True Grit
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance was a fine film, but it was as much a Jimmy Stewart vehicle as Wayne's. Blazing Saddles may be the best Western comedy of all time along with Cat Ballou.
broadjumper1 5 months ago
@seanofafrica - As for Woody Strode, his best was Sergeant Rutledge and of course his seminal role was the Ethiopian gladiator Draba, in Spartacus. And of course he was an outstanding athlete. An interesting story about Spartacus is that that the role was initially offered to Rafer Johnson who had to turn in down because he would have lost his amateur status. Incidentally, Strode never made it to the '36 Olympic trials some stories say because he was required to take a courses at UCLA.
broadjumper1 5 months ago
@broadjumper1 I didn't know that about Rafer Johnson, though I'd have given the role to Woody in the first place. In Strode's autobiography GOLD DUST, he says, 'The school said I needed another half-unit to maintain my eligibility. So I took a shop class, and never went to the [1936] Olympics'. He also says that Hitler commissioned two paintings of him! And that he'd have gone to the 1940s games had they not been cancelled. Back to Rafer Johnson and amateurism, do you know of The Ghost Runner?
seanofafrica 5 months ago
@seanofafrica - The story of Rafer being offered the role is recounted in David Maraniss' book: "Rome 1960, The Olympics that Changed the World." Another athlete who was suspended for "using his celebrity for financial gain", wax Lee Calhoun the '56 & '60 Olympic Champion. He suspended in 1958 for receiving gifts on "Bride and Groom," a TV game show of that time. And you're speaking of John Tarrant, the ghost runner? Yes, a sad story. One of many screwed over by Brundage's IOC. Rotten bastard.
broadjumper1 5 months ago
@seanofafrica - Speaking of Strode, I can't find any report of what he scored in a decathlon, ever see any? he might have had a hard time beating Glenn Morris and by 1940, there was another great decathlete named Bill Watson (who was also black) and he won the 1940 A.A.U. decathlon by 800 points with a score over 7,500 and set two event records 100m (10.8) and discus (151' 4").
broadjumper1 5 months ago
@broadjumper1 ...as he wasnt seen on the world stage, but he didnt shirk anyone, he proved this in 83 and was never afraid of getting beat. That's the thing about greatness you're a good winner and a good loser, only a few have it, Wells was one.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - I'll give Wells this, he did face everyone he could and he didn't duck anyone. For that, he deserves respect. I still wouldn't call him as a 'great', perhaps an 'almost great', but I respect him more than guys like Usain Bolt, a GREAT sprinter, but a so-so human being...

@broadjumper1 Who was in the team, please?

@seanofafrica - James Butler, Cliff Wiley & Fred Taylor...

@broadjumper1 Do you know what the results were in their home championships? Also, is there any footage of Wiley's (1981?) World Cup 400m victory? His style was so silky smooth.

@broadjumper1 Wow, thanks for this! Willie Gault was another natural, beautiful stylist - and an awesome hurdler.
seanofafrica 5 months ago
@seanofafrica
Yes an interesting final with, Gault (who STILL runs today in masters competitions and can run under 11.00 at age 50), 27' long jumper LaMonte King, Dwayne Evans, the '76 200m bronze medalist, and Mark Duper, future All-Pro wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins.
broadjumper1 5 months ago
@broadjumper1 Never knew Gault still ran. Just looked it up: 10.96s into a HEADWIND, age 50. What an inspirational figure! Thanks.
seanofafrica 5 months ago
@seanofafrica - Yes he holds the age group 100m WR (10.88) and 200m (22.44). He also ran the 200 with a 23.61 semi-final (before breaking down and finishing last in the final) and he ran lead off in the M50 4x100 whch won in 45.92

As it would of been, Olympics, Moscow. 100m
1. Wells 10.25.
2. Leonard 10.25.
3. Floyd 10.31 (At best, oh yes)
4. Lattany 10.35
5. Haas W.Germany 10.36
6. Petrov 10.39
7. Glance 10.41
8. Aksinin 10.44

4. Leonard 10.22

@broadjumper1 Where did the 10.20 and 10.22 come from you prat, they were flat out at 10.25, they wouldnt have gone any quicker, Arsewipe, you're a waste of rations and time, but your number has been and always will be taken out.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - Where did they come from? Oh, Please if you're gonna pull the placings outta yer ass, then it's completely feasible to suggest that with the US sprinters the race would have been faster...Flat out? LOL. Funny..the woman's final was JUST as fast as the previous games, yet the men's was the SLOWEST in 20 years...Arsehole, you lose IQ points with every dump, so time you visited the loo again, huh?
broadjumper1 1 year ago
Best case scenario for the Americans if they had been in Moscow.
100m Bronze. (Floyd, but wouldnt have come between Wells and Leonard, no way.)
200m 5th place would of been the highest, no way would you have given the first 4 any trouble there.
Relay. As with the 100 the Bronze, as both Russia and Poland were quicker than America in 80.
So 2 Bronzes at very best you would of got, not you're year son im afraid. Never mind theirs always the world series, you're bound to win that.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - You should get a refund on you time machine Skippy, the real results would have been a 1-2 US sweep with times below 10.20, at least 2-3 in the 200 and 1 gold in the relay...
5 medals in two races, two Gold for the US and the Brits would have been fortunate to have 2 of any color...one thing's for certain, you'll never be that fortunate again, unless of course a Boycott is called and EVERYONE except the UK stays away...
broadjumper1 1 year ago
Oh, and there was also a West German sprinter at Koblenz, German champion named Christian Haas, finished 4th in the final, but he was ahead of Carl Lewis 5th and Harvey Glance 6th, good boy. LOOOL!
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
I also find you amusing Longjumper, you dont know it but the more times you comment the more views and comments Allan Wells gets. What's the old saying, any publicity is good publicity, so comment away. Dont forget your bottle of two-and-six either, after all you must be a liquer drinker, you definetely talk like one. See you hippy.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
Now its these races that put Wells as a World Class sprinter as well as Moscow. He beat everybody from Mennea, Quarrie and Crawford to Carl Lewis, Christie (In 86) and Stanely Floyd. Now you can call that whatever you want, but all it does is mark you as shit pure and simple, i along with many others would call Wells performances as World Class. Period.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - You're not listening, hardly surprising, I didn't say Wells wasn't world class. I said he wasn't impressive, the 80 final was as sloooow as molassaes and at least two of the three American sprinters could have beaten him if not all three. that you keep trying to prop him up as something more than a slightly better than average sprinter marks you as shit pure and simple. Whine all you wish, but that doesn't change anything.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 "I didnt say Wells wasnt world class"
My you've changed you're tune. This is a bitter change of wind from you. If ever the wind was in the east i think it's there today.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - Wrong again, stop obfuscating. Go back and SHOW me where I ever said Wells wasn't world class, that's just another one of your lies attempting to discredit me by putting worlds in my mouth. A world class athlete is ANY athlete that competes in world competition capable of winning, but that doesn't mean they're particularly impressive ..and yes, there is a wind, I can hear it whistling through your ears 'cause of that empty head of yours...
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 As i say i dont always prop Wells up, i was one of his biggest critics, and believed he could of done even more than he did. He was also a pure athlete, and proof of this came in Moscow when the officials told him to stop keep going into the druggy rooms every time he had to go for a wee.
I know you will object to Moscow's drug testing techniques, but it was no better than LA.
And admittedly Wells went out in the semi's in LA, but through the heats he was looking good, but he...
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
...was injured, and the Wells in the semi, wasnt the full fit Wells he normally was, but he ran in the relay as a finalist, but to little effect. He was finished by that time anyway, but were straying, it's 1980,81 were talking, and Wells was number 1 all the way, and it was proved not just on a 1 off, but in the biggest competitions of the year.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
In 79 Mennea had run 10.01, Eugene Ray in 80 had run 10.18 and Crawford and Gilkes had both run 10.19 in 80 also, and none of them made the Olympic final, so where were these fine athletes peak?
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - You tell us..not that it matters..
Same with Ray, he peaked in '77, never running faster but at least he got the chance.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
I certainly wouldn't argue that Wells was one of the greatest Olympic 100m champions as neither would have been any of the Americans that might have beaten him. Between Hines and Lewis the US produced a lot of very good sprinters like Hart, Williams, Riddick, Glance, Edwards, Sanford, Floyd and Lattany but no really great ones.
trickygoose2 1 year ago
@trickygoose2 - This discussion isn't about whether any of the US sprinters would have been greater than Wells, we'll never know since they all lost their chance. But I do believe most on that list would have beaten Wells. But truth be told had any of them been allowed to run in the 80 games they might have been able to sustain longer careers. This was at a time when professionalism still wasn't truly allowed in track, at least in the US.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1
In 1980 track was officially amateur worldwide.
I think one of the most significant effects of professionalism in track has been the greatly increased longevity of US athletes.
trickygoose2 1 year ago
@trickygoose2 - Track was certainly a 'pro' sport around the world before it was allowed to be in the US. That didn't actually occur until the passage of the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, which effectively muted the restraints the AAU used to put on so-called amateur sports, but this legislation still took time to unfold the changes, so it wasn't until the early-80s that US athletes really benefited in a big way. And yes, it did prolong our athlete's careers.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1
Until 1981 the IAAF (then the International AMATEUR Athletics Federation) rules forbade allm payments to athletes other than expenses.
I remember 1976 Olympic 110m Hurdles champion Guy Drut getting a life ban (later rescinded) for receiving payments. In the UK I remember that track & field athletes competing in the TV show Superstars could not compete in any athletic event against professional sportsmen (e.g. soccer & tennis players) even if it was a shot putter doing 100m.
trickygoose2 1 year ago
@trickygoose2 - And most of these athletes superseded the rule by having the payments made to their 'track clubs' - which had all of ONE athlete in them. The same thing that you're speaking of happen to Dwight Stones. The money he earned by winning the Superstars earned him a suspension and forfeiture of his winnings.
I'm well award of "The Superstars." This started the era of 'trash-sports' Entertaining but not real great competition.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
Weels hardly made a friggin penny from his sprinting. He was at the end of his carrer before money/sponsors ruined athletics. He worked as an industrial chemist all his career and still does now he's 23 years retired from sprinting. Of course I like him and am proud he bagged the 100m golsd in 1980. Wells was KING of 1980.
GooseGreen82 1 year ago
@GooseGreen82
Woodlander65 1 year ago
rc addict must reply as your comment showed up in my messages. Of course he would
GooseGreen82 1 year ago
Allan wels reminds me of harold abrahams in chariots of fire played by ben cross and made in 1981!
AppleFaction 1 year ago
The same principal in 1980, you can't make a decisive judgement on 4 hundreds of a second, 10.07 to 10.11, hardly decisive, and proved not to be.
Woodlander65 1 year ago
There is no reason for argument here - Wells beat those that were present on the day. It was bitterly disappointing for him and all of us fans that the USA chose not to participate on political grounds - a gesture that was really utterly futile. Thatcher also wanted to keep us out - but the BOC disagreed and we went thank goodness. The Russians put on a splendid games, bravo to them and it's tough cookie for all those that did not join in the party on account of a few hypocritical politicians.
LPCLASSICAL 1 year ago
@LPCLASSICAL
Where were their rankings system there. Nowhere.
Woodlander65 1 year ago
After Moscow in Koln, Germany during the real Olympic Games according to US athletics at the time Wells beat Floyd 10.19 to 10.21 which was a fantastic night for British athletics and i for one remember the night well and it won't and can't be ignored or forgotten and is one of the reasons why Wells was a great champion.
But i'll let Mel Latany (3rd that night) have the final say, afterwards he went up to Wells shaking his hand and the man sincerely told him that he thoroughly thought he...
Woodlander65 1 year ago
...deserved his Gold and Silver in Moscow, as for Floyd he was disgusted and wanted a rerun and an inquiry showing also his immaturity and worthlessness as a bad loser.
Yes it means a lot to us, it's nothing to bj1, of course its nothing to him, he's an American and cannot and will not see that other view, proof of his shallowness, backwardness and lack of integrity, but i hope the hatred and contempt in him will be doused one day, because it cant do him any good.
Woodlander65 1 year ago
@Woodlander65 - I never claimed Wells didn't deserve his medals, he won the race against those who were allowed to run. As for how Floyd may allegedly have reacted or what Lattany allegedly said, it has nothing to do with the belief that the Olympic 100 might have turned out differently if they had run.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@Woodlander65 - Your whining is typical of those who generally feel inferior, that's why you so staunchly defend this rather dubious achievement, but deep down you know that it was a hollow victory. This has nothing to do with hate, but you're so blinded by your overt nationalism that you refuse to see the facts. As for who's espousing hatred and contempt, try reading over your own comments and you'll see who's doin the hatin'...but at least they're good for a chuckle...
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@Woodlander65 - And as I've told you, I'm aware of their post Games competitions. But the truth is that the American boycott was announced well in advance of the US Trials which were held in April, so there wasn't incentive to for US sprinters to train or run as hard as if they'd been permitted to compete. It's my contention that things might have been different had the best US sprinters had been there, and that's a common belief, no matter if it rubs you the wrong way or not.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@Woodlander65 - In truth, Wells was a decent, but hardly impressive sprinter. It's difficult to laud too much praise upon a sprinter with a lifetime best of 10.11 & 20.21. it'd closer to say he was a great champion when compared to other British and Western European sprinters. He was fortunate indeed that the boycott aided his bid to win the 100m gold.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1
At this time no man had broken 10.00 other than at high altitude so 10.11 was definitely a top class time in world terms. I also don't think sub 20.00 for 200m was run until Mennea ran it after the Moscow Olympics.
trickygoose2 1 year ago
I mean sub 20.00 away from high altitude!
trickygoose2 1 year ago
@trickygoose2 - While it's true that no man had broken 10.00 at sea-level, several men were close and some ran multiple races faster than 10.11. Given that this 10.11 was Wells' ONLY legal performance under 10.20, he simply wasn't near top-class in time, just not a very impressive sprinter. Same goes for the 200, while no one broke the 'standards' of 10.00 or 20.00 at sea-level, this fact alone doesn't make Wells an impressive sprinter, rather one who was in the right place at the right time.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1
Athletes based in the southern states of the USA would have more.
trickygoose2 1 year ago
@trickygoose2 - I'm well aware of his victory over Floyd, and I still maintain that those races were pretty meaningless given that when the US atheletes knew their shot was over, they rest of their season was pretty much just going through the motions...Wells would have been a contender to medal, but most likely bronze, not gold. Sorry, but the slowest winning time in 20 years is more than enough proof that Wells can't be considered among the greatest 100 meter champions in Olympic history.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1
Those races were arguably at least as meaningless for Wells who had already achieved his main aim for the year. Surely the US sprinters would be motivated to beat the guy who'd become Olympic champion in their absence?
trickygoose2 1 year ago
@trickygoose2 - And? Of course they were meaningless for Wells, but he has pride, just like all athletes and he didn't want to get shown up. Did the Americans want to win, of course they did, but you're REALLY gonna suggest the thought of beating Wells in some utterly meaningless race was enough to inspire the American sprinters to train just as hard as they would have to win an Olympic Gold medal??? Get outta town...they were no where NEAR their best physically or mentally.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1
This is one reason (of several) why we'll never really know who would have won if everyone had been in Moscow.
trickygoose2 1 year ago
@trickygoose2 - And as far as not having opportunities, I'm not buying that. There's been a major track & field circuitt in Europe for DECADES. Plus Wells had the UK Championships, the Commonwealth Games, etc. Perhaps the conditions wouldn't have been as favorable, as other wamer weather countries, but once would still expect more tha just a handful of sub 10.20 times in career of a top-flight sprinter, even in the 80s.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 - Wells ran his fair share of 10.2s, as did Floyd and Lattany at the time if i remember right. I can remember Floyd winning races in Berlin, Athens and Italy in 1980, and he ran in the 10.3 mark each time, but it was all he needed at the time, as did Wells.
But it's interesting that none of the Americans ran as quick as 10.11 in Europe that year. Nearest was 10.13 by Floyd.
Wells fastest 10 100s were 10.11, 10.15, 10.17, 10.18, 10.19, 10.19, 10.20, 10.23, 10.24, 10.25. (con)
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - You clearly aren't hearing (reading) what I'm saying, once the boycott came down, most American Olympic level athletes were clearly not training with the commitment they had previously since their ultimate goal had been stolen from them so it's hardly surprising any marks they recorded in late 1980 were mediocre at best...but none of this makes Wells' marks any more impressive.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 - Oh yes they were training hard with the dedication they always had. Floyd ran a 10.13 in Switzerland after Moscow, so dont talk to me about lack of commitment and dedication, they came to Europe to set the record straight, and it meant a lot to them and was very significent to the sprinting season. Great year for the sprints 80 was. But it wasnt mediocre, not by a long shot. World class, a joy to watch and remember.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 Now that is outstanding sprinting by world standards.
And i'm not buying your guessing either if there had been no boycott. But if were going to i would say Floyd would of picked the bronze medal up in Moscow, after all it was Silvio Leonard who was the daddy with his 9.98 in 77.
But the races after Moscow werent meaningless, not to the American sprinters that came over to attempt to take the shine off Wells achievements, but couldnt. Easy to say now that they were meaningless.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - I never claimed Well's wasn't generally consistent, but consistent isn't outstanding. I don't care if you believe Wells still would have won, but you can't judge how others might have performed based upon Leonard's 9.98 from years earlier, that has no bearing on his fitness 3 years later. Yes, the races after Moscow were meaningless. They were at best a chance to earn a few bucks, but no Olympic medals. No matter what they did AFTER Moscow, it wouldn't have really mattered.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 That's just your opinion and sour grapes perhaps, but i do believe Wells would of won. He was at his peak physically and mentally, and he would of done the same in Moscow as he did in Koblenz. I dont think Floyd would of done it, Bronze at best, but he was a fine sprinter and achieved much in the states, but he would of met his match in moscow.
EnrySimmersen 1 year ago
@EnrySimmersen - Nothing sour about it. It doesn't bother me in the least that Wells has his Gold medal, stop being so fucking defensive. You're free to believe what you wish and Wells may have been in fine shape, but 10.25 wins and 10.39 places? Hell, even the women's race's were more competitive. Any one of the three Americans on the team could have won that race...what pisses you off is that anyone has the temerity to question WHY it was the slowest final in 20 years...
