I believe there should be a law where if a taser is used longer than the duration of 5 seconds, say 10 seconds, the officer involved would be fined or better yet, prosecuted.

On the basis of death from being tasered, it should be treated as a homicide case.

I do believe many not all cops believe they are above the law and they don't deserve to have that job. Maybe a test of some sort to weed out the bad cops from the good cops.

the problem is that they are used on 'non-compliant' persons, not dangerous people as promised. A taser can be used to disable a suspect even before the police have approached them just because they might run away. SAD

It seems like the cops in some of these videos are resorting to force much too fast. If a person is not complying but is not threatening then the cops should take a couple of minutes to talk calmly and try to reason with people. In these videos they give a person about 5 seconds to comply, it seems like a lot of these situations could be resolved peacefully if the cops had better training.

That made no sense,, but let me educate you on something. The LAST thing an officer wants to do is wrestle with a person.. This is why they use tazers to put the person down so they can be safely arrested. When an officer wrestles with someone, there is always a gun involved, the officers. This weapon can be obtained by the criminal in a wrestling match. It is makes more sense and is much safer for everyone to simply taze them, secure them, then transport them. Enough said.

LIKE HELL!! I have personally seen the Cit of Orange police department tazer a person on three completely seperate occasions. Not one time was any arrest made, nor was the person detained. Every time it was because the person had been or was suspected of having just been in a fight and was about to take flight as the police rolled up. No wrestling was immanent. The people were simply not listening to what the police were telling them to do which pissed the cops off.

The 50,000 volts is only used until there is an electrical path made between the two electrodes and the skin, once the electronics in the Taser detects that an electrical path has been made to the body it reduces the voltage to around 1300 volts ac at very low current. The frequency of the 1300 volts also has been engineered not to interfere with cardiac function.

Well almost every single video I've seen where tazers were used it seems asif the officer resorts to nothing but threats . Example Police officer says get out car! Person asks what I do? Officer-get out of the car! Guy says what I do ? police officer -- pulls out tazer and electrocutes him. Many cops use tazers as a replacement for reasonable social skills. I'm not a hoodlum I stay out of trouble but I encounter officers like that who threaten people simply because the person speaks.

exactly, you don't get the full 50000 volts through you, it's 50000 to fire the probes, then 1300 when they attach and zap you. Look it up people, it's on their website under how they work.

thebatman101069: actually it is 50,000 volts of electricity on charge, which disipates almost immediately, it then goes through a process of recharge/discharge which causes it to drop to about 1300 volts, if the user decides to not hold the button down it will lift back up to 50,000 volt capacity for another charge. The voltage isn't what kills you, sounds a lot, but you could take billions of voltage if the amps are low enough, amps are too low in these "weapons" to be lethal.
