This box works ok, but has frozen before when it's struggling to get a weak signal. It crashed so hard that i couldn't turn it off, so I had to unplug it. This happened about three times. Otherwise it works. I must add though, that after strong winds moved the rooftop antenna, we stopped being able to get FOX 11. We tried with a TV with a built-in digital tuner, hooked up the exact same antenna input from the box, and it picked up FOX 11 fine.
If you're in So Cal, you might want to go up on the roof and point the antenna towards Mt. Wilson because that's where most of the signals are coming from.
I have a couple of DTA800B1's which work very well. One of them has newer firmware and picks up 4 more subchannels. Does anyone know of a way to upgrade the firmware on these boxes?
mark, interesting that i can use the RCA AV cables on the back of my VCR/DVD player as a source to connect to the back of my new converter currently en route to my location.Min e is an Acces HD which is the same size as the RCA unit you have.I look forward to seeing more channels Cable Sucks when they don't offer multicasting! Thanks for doing this vid In LA! Brainy
got a question dude. i have an old tv and the built-in tuner isn't working. i see that you use the RCA wires from the box to the tv. now will my tv work if i'll use the RCA wires too, without using the antenna out in the box? thanks man
RCA does not exist, a Chinese comapny has bought the right to use the name. Just as Zenith, GE, Sylvania and Magnavox have all been "given" to the Chinese, along with the jobs.
How would you connect a vcr? Would the converter box feed the vcr and then the vcr would feed the tv? Or would you need 2 converter boxes? Could you watch one station while recording another.
For a vcr setup, i would probably go DTV box RCA out to VCR RCA IN, then RCA/Antenna out to TV. There doesn't appear to be an kind of dual output ability. You would need another box.
I have a question. Forgive me for sounding dumb. But was the TV quality improved over using the analog antenna? Youtube's video quality is crappy and I can't tell if the video quality improved or not.
Hello.. been digging rather hard on hdtv converter boxes... am interested in the zenith dtt900 and rca dta800...
BUT...
I am seeing that not all channels are going digital come feb. 2009.. doesn't this make it important to have an analog pass through box then, considering the rca dta800 does not have analog pass through?
Canada's digital conversion is mandated by the CRTC (Canada's FCC) to be complete by August of 2011. Since the US and Canada are using the same ATSC standard of OTA digital broadcasting, converter boxes like the DTA800 will work fine here once the transition is complete.
dude i might sound stupid for asking this(I'm at work and cannot have sound on) are you running that from a external antenna?? or are you running that from you cable provider coax cable???
i got the RCA DT800 TOO!

The RCA DTA800 has an amazing picture, DVD Quality.
I just bought the DTA800 yesterday, the DTA800B1. I am just amazed at the picture. Better than Cable Television.
Commercials stand right out at you. And colors are more vivid. Not a single shadow and every line is sharp.

Hey! 2 Questions, Does it have a Digital Guide and also will the Transition affect Canadian Residents? I hope you can answer! Ciao:)
sonucoolkid 3 years ago
It does have a digital guide. I don't believe the transition affects canada since it was mandated by the FCC
