I remember when the older one would play through Emerald, beat Chemical 1, then reset the game, then do it again.

I fell in love with this game the first time I played it, and I fantasized about Tails (No Homo or Furry). Call him a butt monkey if you must, but Tails is a hell of a sidekick for the first game he's in. He can fly, he's nearly as fast as Sonic, and- Oh yaeh. HE'S FUCKING INVINCIBLE!!! As a kid I HATED the 2nd Act to the point I would just turn the console off as a kid when I got the ACT 2 logo on screen. That's probably why I'm an expert on Emerald Hill and ACT 1 XD

But nowadays I love playing this stage with the catchy music and speeding pipes. It just screams nostalgia for me. And the remix of Classic Sonic in Chemical Plant for Generations...GODLY!

this is not only my favorite sonic music/level of all time, but my favorite video game level/music of all time. for one, nostalgia. its the generic 'me and my brother played it alot, i was always tails' story, but still...it sticks to me. and its also the first level in a sonic game i ever got that ultra-high-speed kind of feel for it, while keeping good variety of paths/platforming/etc. oh well, i cant really put it into words--i just love this level and i was ecstatic to see it return.

This is probably THE level that hooked people on Sonic 2. You're absolutely right - this is Sonic level design at it's absolute finest with quick sections on top and water platforming on the bottom. Level has tons of secret areas and rewards for those willing to go for them as well.

Even if you ask a casual fan about Sonic 2, I tend to find most of them will mention Chemical Plant off the bat. That's how much of an impact the level had.

I liked this stage. But for some odd reason, the soundtrack always reminds me of a Micheal Jackson song. Also, I REALLY hate how one hit can knock all the hard earned coins you gathered, out of you. I know it's a "tradition", but it gets annoying!!!!

I always hated Aquatic Ruin more, but I think that's for the same reason you hated this level. To this day, I still use the Debug Mode to get through that God-forsaken water level... I like this level because of the boss and a possible glitch where, if you get enough Rings and hit the last checkpoint, you can die as many times as you want, because it sets you up for an extra life right there every time. Sonic Unleashed kinda took that and 1-upped it, didn't they?

Oh, I remember this stage well. I played these games when I was about six or seven, and back then I considered this one of my favorite Sonic levels and I still do today. Those water sections were a pain back then, but like you said, I can now speed through those with no problem.  What's next, Sky Sanctuary or Mushroom Hill?

God, Chemical Plant rocks. It's my favorite stage in Sonic 2, and one of my favorite stages in any sonic game to date. On top of... pretty much everything you already mentioned in the description, it's just a fun level that looks awesome and has some funky, funky music. I liked it as a kid and love it even more today.

And don't get me started on how it looks and sounds in Generations, or we'll be here all evening.

I recently read the latest sonic comic issue, in it was chemical plant zone, and they choose the one spot where you would either get crushed or drown your first time playing it. Good choice SEGA.

Definitely one of my favorite stages in a Sonic game of all time. The music has that significant beat where you wouldn't hear from just anywhere but Chemical Plant. The level has intense speed that even lets you shoot past the screen. The only thing that drove me insane when I first played this was that stupid water section at the end of act 2!

Now we're getting to the good stuff. Sonic 2 is one of my all-time favorite Sonic games, and Chemical Plant is without a doubt the most memorable stage in the game, especially in terms of it's music (Heck, I was humming the tune today at school!) I love this stage for it's speed but also hate it for its acid and disappearing platforms. I can't wait to relive those memories and experience those tortures all over again in Generations!

Johnny I notice you haven't quite got the flickering sprites to work out yet. What editing program do you use for the videos? I've been using Sony Vegas and with the format on Sony AVC and the Template at Internet 1280x720-30p I was able to get the shield to work properly. Granted that was with the Mega Collection but it should have the same results. The file did increase from the orginial size but uploaded rather quickly.

Thank god you recorded this on an actual Genesis. On an emulator, or in compilations, the pipes just look like a bunch of vertical lines. On the Genesis though, the pipes look transparent. It's a huge difference graphically. The game looks better blurry.

Also, to be honest, this is the first time I've seen the purple water area in a while. I always take the SOOPER SEKRIT top path that skips that section and gives you a bunch of rings and invincibility before you dumping you out at the boss.

i personally think this is the best stage in classic era. it a cool jazz track, speed that makes you faster then the camera and badass moments when you are fsst enough to not touch the riaing water. shortcuts and traps are included making it a level that is deadly as well as fun to sonic boom through.

Out of the classic stages that are being announced in Sonic Generations, this one has excited me the most.

I'm a oddball pretty much :P I enjoy the music, stage's theme, speed, and fun factor. Yes I'll admit that one section where you get stuck in the purple water and the only way out is to use a spindash but still, the stage was always enjoyable...and SEGA PUT THE DAMN MUSIC ON YOUTUBE ALREADY! To be perfectly honest, I only ever liked this stage for the music. I think that this is one of the catchiest tunes in Sonic 2's history (followed by Mystic Cave and Aquatic Ruin), but then again that is to be expected from SEGA and Sonic Team.

If there's one level I can't understand my reason for loving, it's this one. Chemical Plant isn't a 'quintessential' zone like Green Hill, but with the catchy music and all the loops and pipes, it's definitely one of my favorite zones. I can't wait to try it out in Generations, even if it might be a tad disappointing to see one of my favorite zones going up in flames.

One of my favorite levels on the genesis. I also hate that water section. I also like how there's a hidden passage above the top route of the close to water section that let's you bypass all the water together and gives invincibility before the boss.
