It's obvious the main host of the show the woman will always have the deciding vote of who wins the pizza wars so the male judges were told to vote for one while the other guy has to vote for the other so she gets the main decision. So i don't believe these votes. But from what i've heard best tasting pizza in NY is Di Fara in Brooklyn not the other 2.
if i've got my sums rite, Grimaldi's is gold mine coz d bird says they serve on average 400 pizzas a day, each costing approx. $13.00 so 13 x 400= $5200 & then 7 days x $5200= $36,400 (a week). in other words, they r taking on average over $1.7 million a year!
@privatezib Probably they get about 1/4th - 1/8th of that as profit. Imports are expensive, labor, tax, utilities, other ingredients, etc. Still quite a hefty chunk of profit.
Di Fara recently got closed down by health department. Unsanitary work environment by Dominick Di Marco ( don't know his name). But they re-opened a few days later don't know if health department gave them a thumbs up to do so or they just opened it back on their own without permission. But makes you think twice what the "best" pizza in NY is really feeding you.
@leepakim - quite. It does seem silly in these episodes when they get a Fans of X and Y (like the slopper challenge in Pueblo, CO) who eat there 4 days a week to judge. 'Oh, congratulations, you picked the one from your favourite place!' Hrm, ya think? So you neutralise 2 votes there. And what experts they get usually have some familiarity with (and therefore mild preference for) one or another place. Neutrality and impartiality would make it much more interesting.
lmme just say that as a new yorker, Lombardis on spring st and Arturos by houston are HANDS DOWN the best pizza in nyc. its unfair that they didnt even include Lombardis because this lady even stated pretty much that grimaldis foundation was originally an employee from lombardis. sorry to both pizzas but arturos and lombardis are the best
