I wish that someone would put the documentary Cinemania on YouTube. I wonder if the unemployed guy in this documentary who used his unemployment benefits to pay for his theatre admission ever got a job? One of these characters had the phone numbers of all the projectionist booths in the theatres so that he could notify the projectionist if the movie wasn't presented on the screen correctly. R.I.P. Roberta and save me some popcorn and a theatre seat in Heaven !
It sounds like these people suffer from a severe addiction. Film shouldn't be so important that your common decency and kindness goes out the window the moment you lose your favorite seat or ticket stub.
I saw this movie at a film festival years ago. I confess Iam something of a cinemaniac having reviewed films at festivals for a website for several years. I have maybe met a couple of characters like this at festivals. I guess being a writer and reporter I don have the issues these people have or had. People hate film lovers anyway.
Roberta died earlier this year. Never really talked to her, but it's strange not seeing her at the movies all the time when I go. I'd heard the legends for years about her attacking a ticket-taker at MoMA; it's weird to finally hear it from the stranglee's mouth. Guess I should rent this whole movie someday.
Oh I'm so sorry to hear that :( since seeing the docu some years ago, i've always wondered what happened to all of the great characters.....once you meet Roberta, you can't forget her :) i knew there'd been mention of her being (possibly) evicted because of all of her movie memorabilia (it seemed like she saved _everything_, every kind of movie souvenir, including McDonald's movie-theme soft drink cups!
