  • Actually this footage came from KGO TV chnannel 7

  • 116 years.

  • Actually there were a few survivors who were over 100 in 2009. San Francisco must promote longevity!

  • What is amazing is they suffered a huge quake and most folks were sleeping yet they had time to put on their fancy cloths.

  • wheres sound ?

  • i see dead people

  • Next time -- it will be leveled according to the scientists of the world. They were able to rebuild a new city but soon- it will fall into the Pacific Ocean. Quite the film to watch & women all had hats! Many men, too. Thank you for sharing such an extra-ordinary film.

  • What I don't understand why even after all this, why did to build bigger buildings despite of the faultline?

  • aww everyones dressed so nice :]

  • This must be some of the first footage of a natural disaster ever.

  • My god, that was devastating. I hope the next earthquake wont be a 10. :"(

  • Imagine that all the people(or 99%), living on the globe back then are now dead. The people you see in this video are dead, you see a world of dead people...i find that amazing. Like we're gonna be over years: dead people on video. Thanks for sharing this video 5stars.

  • @LenoirElena Did you ever hear of the Akashic Record?

  • @thszntatst No i haven't till now when you mention it. I did a short search and got the idea. But I'll thoroughgoing study this if you think I'll find it of interest. I've looked over my previous comment and I find it cold. Didn't mean that. I thank these people for the fact that I found a world when I was born...

  • @LenoirElena Yes, as you remember them they anticipated you.

  • @LenoirElena its amazing...I wonder everyday about that... I want to see the city of rome that was burnt and now is like before!! POMPEYA isnt it?

  • @catlvr214 How do you think they made silent movies.

  • @cw1310 Well I think, the fact that at that time, the only film that they had was silent film. Sound did not come in until I think 1929. After that I guess that they said sound is here lets go with it. good move

  • omg, my teacher told us about this earthquake today....he made us watch this 7 minuet longgggggggg video in it =[

  • What size was it. and i like that everyone is going on their daily lives...

  • it is said that it was 7.7 but at the epicenter it was lik 8.3 or 9 something i think. google it.

  • Il termine "condottiero" deriva dalla parola "condotta", che era il contratto stipulato tra il principe e l'uomo d'armi.

  • at 0:07 i saw a building from san andreas

  • Is it the one right behind Carl's garage on that construction site? That I saw.

  • what a time to be alive

  • I know it happened!

    God bless us all.

    To hell with CGI

  • Scary posts here.

SF was 2000 miles from where movies were made in 1906 (yes that's the year people LOL). Hollywood developed after WWI (that's 1918+ LOL)

SF had year-round great weather. The economy of 1906 was vastly simpler than now. Few homes even had indoor plumbing in 1906. Almost no cars, No highways or bridges to collapse. Farming was the main industry.

Yeah, New Orleans could get afoot quickly too if you mean the ability to run horse and bicycles on Canal Street.

  • it makes no sense because i did alot of reserch and all of the sites said that the earthquake happened in 1906 i am totaly con fufsed

  • @gg777999 It was 1906.

  • Sorry..not fake, just got the dates wrong.

There was a fire too, as gas tanks were fractured and exploded. I think they are more prepared now if it ever happens again!

  • well ur book is wrong...

  • The earthquake did happen in 1906. All encyclopedias, books, websites, and TV shows say it happened in 1906.

  • New Orleans has a much greater area and far more developed buildings ,but not obviously for hurricanes and the buildings. Back then the buildings were not as strong and were now and would have been made of weaker materials such as wood in stead of more sturdy concrete.

  • Thanks for putting this on. My grandmother was 21 at the time when this happened and told me a lot about it. It took just 3 years to get that town up and running again, what is the problem with New Orleans?

  • The government doesn't give a damn about New Orleans. That's what's wrong.

  • New Orleans is expecting the federal government to take action. But people shouldn't rely only on government. And I have always been told after a natural disaster, you will likely be on your own for 3 days. What I don't understand is how the residents of New Orleans did nothing. They had some warning, but did nothing but wait. People shouldn't expect others to help them; they need to get prepared themselves.

  • If you're referring to the hurricane Katrina which may I say has NOTHING to do with the video at hand (earthquakes) there was a hurricane warning just before the Katrina hurricane warning that turned out to be a false alarm. People wanted to stay home and take care of their children, pets, family that couldn't leave, etc. And of course, the homeless who had billions of dollars to hop on a plane to safety. All these people that couldn't leave New Orleans aren't stupid, they were trapped. Idiot.

  • True, unfortunately, the poor and homeless are at a disadvantage. If you would have seen the posts that led to my first post, you would have seen the reason why I posted. Plus, I've had these thoughts for a couple years and wanted to speak my mind. It's unfortunate that people in N.O. became confused with the false alarm warning and the real thing. But I believe that if they really wanted to survive, they would leave. Thanks for the name-calling and closed-mind too, mature. Are you always angry?

  • This is the San Francisco earthquake of 1906... it's pretty much nowhere near New Orleans... Who was even talking about New Orleans?

  • So cool to be able to see this footage, thanks for sharing it, I love old footaget

  • Was that a hearse rolling by at about 1:10 ?

  • Excellent footage.

The US wouldn't experience any disaster of this magnitude again for 99 & 1/2 years.

  • from what I hear we (United States) are suspose to have another quake just like this one but bigger really soon!

  • 101 years later and I have to say that the men and women were decked out in their finest attire to view the rubble and destruction.

  • HAHAHAHHA!

That was the funniest comment I've ever read here!

  • holy this is like the oldest youtube ever! did u tape this or sumthing lol or ur grandfather?who?
