we can only use the animal B12, not the spirulina ed.
we make it in the last part of the large intestine. we absorb it in the last part of the small intestine. maybe when you are super healthy (like veganath) you can absorb your own made B12, but i haven't read any of that yet.
If you are under 200 pmol/l (or in some cases 300 pmol/l) and have cloudy head fatigue, strange feeling hands and feet, legs, tongue, better get some injections.
About 40% of people are B12 deficient and less than 5% of people are vegetarians. The problem is, as you age you loose your ability to absorb B12 from food. This is called atrophic gastritis which means the stomach secretes less hydrochloric acid, pepsin and intrinsic factor that are needed to absorb B12. This is very common in older people. All people should take B12 regardless of whether you are a vegan or meat eater. It really is a silly debate when people say vegans are B12 deficient.
spirulina and bee pollen have a large amount of B12, as i found on spirulina bottle and in inet reading about those. plus human body produce some of b12 . so i dont believe that people need to eat meat or buy artificial tablets to get b12. its a lot of conspiracy about b12 so people would be scared to be vegan:)
Vegan for 20 years & am an athlete, body builder, have no lack of energy, so why do I need B12 supplement? Our super sanitized processed foods(cooking being the biggest sin) causes a greatly reduced spectrum of bacteria in the gut. Is it any wonder B12 deficiency is prevalent..
yeah thats what was happening when i took my calcium pills, it means that you are taking to much and your body doesnt have the time to absorb all the nutrients, i say take maybe tw o pills a day and increase when your pee stops being so bright :)
no it's practically all your vitamins going down the toilet because they're not from a raw food or whole food source meaning they're made in a lab or synthetic. The body doesn't react well to synthetic supplements. In fact they can actually make you less healthy.
okay people.. im 19... and i eat right i eat chicken breast my daily intakes of fruit and vegies.. and i walk everyday ... and i got it... it just happens weither your healthy or not its how your body produces and intakes the vitamins... and sometimes it just stops...
one b-12 tablet usually offers more than 1000% of the daily value. the companies who sell this stuff are loving the sheep who buy into it. b-12 is a vitamin made from a bacteria in your intestines and will produce on it's own if your in good health, and i didn't have to go to school for 10 years and dump $100,000 into an education to discover that. Also the body doesn't handle change too well. going straight to vegan is hard on your body....it's better to take baby steps toward that diet.
This video is terrible! I'm an evangelist for B12 and I'm disgusted that this video is promoting misunderstood platitudes. B12 is a vitamin - vital for life. It is made by bacteria in the gut (meat eaters get it from cattle & sheep, vegans get it from their own gut), but modern food additives seem to kill a lot of these. If you're short of energy you could benefit, but don't buy from these guys
The pronunciations of the key words are really distracting--it sounds like u r reading an encyclopedia and you've never seen these words before...i'm not buyin' it, sorry...
Are you a product of your upbringing or heritage? Most poor suffer a Vitamin B12 deficiency due to poor diet. Eat right and it will serve you well in school and the rest of your life. Thank you for helping the poor.
Funny the quoted comment I quoted got counted as "spam." Funny how activist related stuff that opposes any capilism or BS in any nasty industries are counted as spam. As for hate comments towards those who wanna abstain meat, such comments never get counted as spam...funny.
But anyways, as one who abstains meat myself, I never even had to worry about B12 (Bulls**t 12). What VedicRessurection. I totally get what he/she's getting at.
"I'm a vegan and I don't take any supplements. I know a man who has been a vegan for 30 years and he never take B12 and he does fine. He's 50 and have the body and the stamina of an 18 year old athlete. I think this B12 bullshit came from the meat and dairy industry to scare vegans and potential vegans. Remember, these are the same people who told vegans in the early days of the movement that plants don't have enough protein to support the human body. We now know that's a lie! Think!"
I had a friend who went vegan for a year. No supplements whatsoever. He went depressed after a while and subsequently had schizophrenia. He was put in a particular community. His mind was in muddled state even in the course of his treatment, which lasted for 4 months.Luckily and thankfully he went fine afterwards. He's still taking b12 tablets everyday, not as pescribed for the mental disorder he incured, but to cure his impaired sense of smell. Which was also induced by the deficiency in b12.
I bet your friend was a nut case from the get go. And most people become vegetarian and vegan to cure their bodies from the ailments caused by meats, because when you eat meat it weighs on the stomach and you can't eat as many fruits and vegetables. Most meat eaters eat a slice of tomatoe as compared to a vegetarian who eats a whole one and a load of good foods, not just a cheesburger haha.
If we only need a small amount of b12 then if I ate all the foods that you mentioned near the end that were Vegan accepted? And could I still get the Vitamin b12 I need. For now I am taking supplements daily but wouldnt it be nice to get the right amount without taking those supplements.

Most cases of B12 deficiency occur in non-vegetarians. *sigh* It's all about digestive health, not b12 intake.

now she has to get injections every week to stay healthy. If she doesn't then her symptoms will appear again.

my grandmother was sent to the hospital thinking she had a stroke. She had all the signs of a stroke; blurred vision, was unable to walk etc..
the doctors found out that it was not a stroke but that she had a vitamin deficiency B12
She is around 60. I totally believe its possible.

is your grandmother a vegetarian???
