  • probably one the dumbest songs ever written.

  • Can't we remove all ads from YouTube? Thank you.

  • Thanks. Great song. Very Nice. =)

  • Her hair looks so nice when she's wearing the white shirt. I wish women still had those hairstyles, they were awesome.

  • 8 people clicked the wrong button.

  • "take your hat off" look up eminems "beautiful" ok so you know about the squrreells i feed them pistachios they love pistachios!

Oh yeah by the way erika used to say "hey there squirrlly lookin for NUTS!" redheader (gross)

i thought she meant "weirdos" like someone who gets arrested for being abnormal...

Kelly clarkson owns the dreamland haha fo REALZ shes awesome!

  • be a fucking gentleman, assholes. That is what the song is saying, just in different words.

  • @airthief36 Nah I think it's saying something else.

  • Classic 90s goodness!

  • Thanks to Tanya, Chris and Tom for making this song that will forever encapsulate my adolescence. The vocals and melody have an eerie remenescent quality. Amazing amazing amazing to be able to create music that does that for someone, or for a generation. Thanks guys!!!!

  • And, just a bit of info for the kids: It's not "nonsense" music. The lyrics are "stream of consciousness." Maybe they've stopped teaching poetry and psychology?

  • @Lbonj14 ...finally someone who speaks the unfettered truth as to the deeper meaning of this song and poetry...thank you from the deeper meaning of My Heart planted as a seed in the ground...as the song goes(so to speak)...have a very good one...

  • Belly rules.

  • This band actually worked hard and wrote their own songs so they have to suck right? Fu%$ this instant stardom, american idol, brainless mindset, and all the drooling fans who follow like sheep.

  • @proper1013 Music these days is all about image and marketing. Completely Style over substance. Can you imagine something like Lady Gaga back in the day? Ridiculous.

  • @bradspace2 Yeah. Her name was Madonna.

  • @MiaoPurrington

So true. GAGA is nothing more than a glorified scene girl.

  • @proper1013

I'll go one further. I have played guitar/bass for 38 years. I learned

to play without the use of the millions of effects available today which made me learn how to wring tone out of my guitars/amps the way we did before my instruments were "vintage".

You can find scads of kids on YT who play and sound like rock Gods due to the digital processing crap they use. I could do so if I wished to sound like a machine.

I like tubes and old guitars.

  • Apparently this song was the tits when I was born in 93', thank god I missed this I don't think I could have put up with it..

  • ...probably back working at the mall now.

  • This 90s nonsense fad music cracks me up! When I was a teenager in the 90s, I didn't like it back then either! Stumbled across this video via YT link.

  • She really does only know how to dance the one way, doesn't she?

  • I know it was the 90's and all but her hair dresser should be shot.

  • @imelectric311 People were more into substance over style back then. It's a pretty novel concept these days. Although I actually like most of those old styles.

  • Well some of them anyway.

  • Classic, if you were a teenager in the 90's.

  • this one of the worst most long forgoten bands fromthe 90s! im wondering how many even remember this band.

  • Seen this band years ago one of the worst shows ever she could not play more than 2 songs without stopping to smoke for 5 min not talking just standing there and smoking.

  • "feeding the tree" is a metaphor for sex right?

  • @killingspree i think its about death

  • @killingspree I don't think so... I think Tanya or her sister Kristin once said, "If you think it's about sex... it's probably about death." Feed the trees is a metaphor for being dead and buried.

  • @SMVS167 Correct. Tanya said, 'to feed the tree means when we become its fertilizer'.

  • @SMVS167True. Kinda. It's about people getting married in the old fashioned way and staying that way 'til they die. Period. Song meanings are always so much simpler than most make them out to be.

  • AHHHH! A world without Bieber.

  • sundays wannabees

  • @909830 I hate it when people say things they do not understand. Tanya came from the band Throwing Muses and then she was in the Breeders before she formed Belly. Her career predates The Sundays. I love both bands.

  • look its princess leia

  • @DKSpawn333 Where?

  • @DKSpawn333 Where??

  • This little Skwerl I used to be...

  • Don't care what it's about. It's just a great tune!

  • All music has it's good points to somebody...I wouldnt say it's stupid..I respect anyone that can play any music because I don't have any musical talent at all!! I like the tune.

  • @munroe9ify it's not a stupid song. it's a great song.

  • @danerook It's a matter of taste, I'm sure. But it's definitely a song that belongs to a very specific period in music. It's not one of those in heavy rotation these days, even as an "oldie".

  • @munroe9ify It should be and the song is not stupid.

  • @munroe9ify you're stupid, stupid dumbhead...

  • Take you're hat off BOY when you Talkin to me.......!

  • One hit wonder, but a good 'un. Woke up with it going through my head this morning.

  • This song would have to be on a list of the decade's best.

  • May be a one hit wonder but I listened to it over and over when it came out.

  • is this the same girl that sang in the group le tigre

  • @caliwaters88 i believe so

  • @caliwaters88 No. It's Tanya Donnelly (Throwing Muses, The Breeders & Belly)

  • Im also trying to figure out another song..only hear it once in a great while on alt nation ot lithium..i guess its from a movie sound track... The Kids somethin..and it says "Im the one...Im the one....and then really cool guitar music.. I know thats not much info but love the song and have no idea who does it..any ideas?

  • @timw8954 I did a quick search on "I'm the one" on lyricsdepot. Possible artists for that song are: Danzig, Static-X, LA Guns, The Descendents, Gary Allen, Rebecca Martin, Santana, Van Halen, and Johhny Cash. A couple of these are on YouTube. Happy Hunting.

  • @PhillyPhairPhan Thanks I'll try these..Thanks for time, I appreciate it...this has been a hard song to find!! Let you know if its one of these!

  • @PhillyPhairPhan Found it!! Its on the Kids Movie Soundtrack..from Folk Implosion.song called "Natural One" pretty cool song. Thanks

  • @timw8954 "I'm the One" by The Average White Band

was on the soundtrack for the 1995 film 'Kids'.

  • @ockraz O Thanks so Much!! Thats a song Ive wanted for years..finally figured out!! You are a genius!!

  • @ockraz Shoot! thats not it afterall..thanks for your effort tho! This has been a hard one to figure out.

  • @ockraz I finally found it!! You were kinda right it is on the Kids Soundtrack..Its Folk Implosion "Natural One" Thanks again !!

  • This is very cool song..love it, trying to figure out what it really means..what do ya think? be there when i feed the tree? poured his broken heart into the ground..so be there when his heart breaks?? I just heard this for the 1st time on alt nation.

  • nevermind. She's saying "Take your HAT off".. If you freeze the video @ 2:45, you can see a note.

  • is she saying "take your hat off" or "take your head off" boy when you're talking to me?

  • i miss belly

  • Hugely underrated 90s band. They were awesome. The lyrics of this song make no sense but hey it was the 90s. No one cared too much, they were concerned about bands being themselves and being different. The 90s were the shit when it came to being different.

  • Tanya,,,,u'r rocks girl,,,,we all missed the old mtv channel especially the alternative nation

  • lol Kurt Cobain on drums

  • Thx Vh 1 ! :D

  • Reunite Kim and Tanya who?

  • I used to listen to this record ad nauseum! Please let Kim and Tanya reunite!

    You know what I mean.

  • Watching Bush @ the Roseland Amphitheater in Portland Oregon.

That place was smoking burning down the house hot when I lived there in the late 80's...EVERYBODY played there...

Gavin's up in the stands...OMG. If he'd a tried that shit at SPAC when I saw them with my ex back in 94, he'd have been DEVOURED.

    So smokin hot he is........

  • @patriotgirl65 oops, wrong video...(hangs head in shame...)(LOL)

  • to me this song is about reincarnation.

  • Dedicate this to Jared Westrup, who enjoyed them, via this song, he passed in 1994, so this is older then 2005 as listed, Very early 1990s on MTV's 120 Minutes it aired most

  • I totally agree!!!

  • Miss Belly. :o/

  • @jdmac44 It's actually Tonya Donnelly on vocals, No Ms Belly! hahaha

  • @MetallicBill Tanya, I'm just FYIing

  • @MetallicBill haha berry punny

  • Just blocked "Bing" because ads piss me off.

  • @GetsumJ How did you do it? I've been trying for so long and do you know how to take "Start Now" off? I really would appreciate your help. Thank so much and high five in advance!!!!

  • @SnukumBear1 sent to your page

  • opening beat sounds like neil youngs keep on rockin in the free world.

  • nice tune. Good voice.

  • Nice song, but that video makes me dizzy.

  • Tanya should give up her new career as a lactation consultant and sling a guitar over her shoulder again...I say that music is in need of a Belly Reunion Tour 2012

  • Every time I hear this song, I think of summer. Walking through the woods and looking up to the top of the forest where the sun rays slip past the leaves and branches. Just appreciating nature and the warmth of the season.

  • Rememeber seeing this vid on Alternative Nation on Mtv when they played videos

  • @madey333 was just thinking the same thing, I haven't watch TV for 6 years and it seems it has just gotten worse..

  • @madey333 MTV played music?

  • @frankenstang57 in the 80's and 90's.....mtv ftw

  • @madey333 wow i remember that, hosted by the infamous Kennedy yes?

  • @madey333 lol im only 15 i cant remember when the mtv station actually showed music videos. how sad is that

  • @Blink41ColdRomance The music video died shortly after the 80's. :(

  • this may sound weird but my mom used to play this song when i was in her belly and now whenever i hear this song i smile so big and sing my heart out!

  • @toolfangirl that is very weird, as there is something dark about this song no one gets. "silverbaby come to me, I'll only hurt you, in MY dreams". If it was talking about a child being afraid of death, it would say "in YOUR dreams". The band is not telling you the truth about the meaning, or they are idiots who cannot keep their metaphors/references straight.

  • @kenfo0 .....did you really read ALL the comments all the way up to 4 months ago?

  • @toolfangirl hi. know what would be AWESOME? Is if when you spoke, you had a point. Next time, against all your abnormal urges, try just shutting up. It is better to be silent and thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Learn it. Live it.

  • @kenfo0 hey what can i say abnormal lives among my family! and i will not keep my mouth shut! thats just stupid

  • @toolfangirl your comment is idiotic. why are you proud of being stupid? why do you think others need to be subjected to your stupidity? I commented on your comment....happens all the time. You reply with gibberish, and haven't shut up since. That's all that's happened, yet you appear to think you are some kind of genius. An idiot savant, perhaps...one whose only ability is typing really fast...or perhaps non-stop jabbering?

  • @kenfo0 nope im not a genius...and no im not stupid i just found it weird that you went back four months into the comments....i mean really we arent here to read comments...were here for the awesome song right? so calm down because you have no right to tell people their stupid..

  • sexy

  • Great video. Too bad it was ruined by the lame commecial.

  • black leather jacket Tanya gets my vote.....

  • 3 people's trees died because they weren't fed

  • feed the tree= pee in the woods.

  • @justin19844 That's the funniest shit ever.

  • inspirational

  • From vh1 one hit wonders, watching this right now, fri May 27 2011 12:17am, And what the hell is she talking about???? Feed the Tree???What tree?

  • @wataki2 when she dies, we all become plant food.

  • Nothing hotter than a woman who can actually sing.

  • those bell sleeve shirts were all the rage in the 90s, i had a closet full of them

  • finally read the lyrics what is she talking about. Is this a metaphor.Someone enlighten me please, really like the song.

  • @MrVinny53 The song is about life and she is saying that she has learned somethings and she recants her experiences & things she has seen others experience. She also uses metaphors in the chorus..."take your hat off boy when you're talkin to me" is basically saying respect me & "be there when I feed the tree" is be here for me till i die since technically we all feed the trees in the end.

  • VH1 called them one of the greatest one-hit wonders of the 1990s. I think the 1990s Rolling Stone covers were cursed because a number of artists were touted as the next big thing, but then went nowhere.

  • @StoogeWatcher Maybe it was because most bands sorta ride the fame wave instead of working hard on that next album I think the bands that could care less about the RS cover are the ones that survive, it was very publicized that at the height of their fame Nirvana said no three different times to being interviewed by RS and being put on their cover before finally being featured.......but they arent here so you could be right

  • "Do you think if this band was playing in the forest and like a tree fell on em cuz they sucked, do you think anybody would be there?" - Butthead

  • Belly at Santa Monica Pier - must ditch day

  • I miss the 90's. So much simpler to just live.

  • @Alienpope the 90s were awesome, but at least the music lives on...

  • WTF....... was everyone high during the 90s?

  • @GenAhab Yes, yes we were. And it fucking rocked!

  • @GenAhab yes, and it was a grand time

  • @GenAhab Yes we were

  • I LOVE THIS.

  • I absolutely adore that back-and-forth swaying thing Tanya does when she plays. So subtle...and sexy.

  • i saw this on vh1

  • @BC13xP meeee 2

  • the ultimate tree hugger song

  • Belly. A "forgotten" band these days but such good song writing. And they had a sound of their own!

  • nice n cool

  • That singer is a MILF today.

  • @zTransformerr You remember Harriet Wheeler from the Sunday'? Man, I fell in love with her voice almost as much as I did her face.

  • the sound reminds me of veruca salt from the mid-90's....

  • I like the song but lyrics dont make sense!

  • @johnn771 Its a metaphore. The old man had his heart broken he died she had some kind of conecction to the man and she feeds the tree because the tree grew where he died or where the man was buried so she feeds it for the old man

  • @070601996 Makes sense

  • @070601996 I am not much on metaphors, but here goes. I think she was the old man. She buried her hurt, and regained her spirit. She feeds the tree by burying her pain. I have no effing clue why her pain would feed the tree. Maybe it is all about peeing on the tree like others have said.

  • @PhillyPhairPhan

I think it's a father telling his daughter's "husband/ boyfriend/ lover,/whatever." to respect him, by taking care of the love of his life, (his daughter) when he is dead and gone..."feeding the tree", same as "pushing up daisies"...

  • @070601996 The song is about a young Woman who finds Her sexuality while walking In the woods. It's obvious. Listen to the lyrics, when She is near the tree, it brings back fond memories, She is awakened. As far as the old man in the lyrics, it could be the joy that She had bouncing on Grandpa's lap. The term take your hat off refers to please allow Me some privacy. It's a song about a Young Woman discovering Her body. It was a good edit to not have Her sitting on said tree. Re-watch.

  • @markschaefer Feed the tree refers to when we die and we fertilize the tree, she said this in an interview.

  • @soxfan801 I kinda always thought it meant having sex without a condom... think about it.

  • they are such an amazing band its hard to believe this is there only hit.

  • This is why I never wear hats ;)

  • Comment removed

  • good song and i dont really like most girl singers...wdre in philly was a now defunkt station in the 90s would play this in rotation...good song!!! thanks!!!

  • :)

  • Tanya is soooo hot. Did I already say that?! LOL.

  • oh no i accidently pressed the dislike button!! :(

  • @thepun1sher1 oh nooooooo

  • Sexual ooze

  • This is an odd thing to say but, a long time ago back when I went o this 1 summer camp there was this girl. Her name was Susan and I'll always remember what she looked like because she looked a whole lot like Tanya D. When I first saw this video I thought, "Oh hey Susan!" I had the fatest crush on that girl. It's been a long time since the summer of 1992.

  • @Crackmandan write a novel and call it: "it's been a long time since the summer of 1992"

  • @blwbl LOL I totally should!

  • @Crackmandan I'll buy it when it comes out!

  • Belly rocks!

  • when i first heard this song, i thought she was saying, "take your head off boy, when you're talking to me"

  • Sue Ann Nivens has a great band! Lou Grant can pound sand.

  • Smoking hot!!!

  • what if i tree fell on them cause they suck do you think anybody would be there

  • 1 person has no soul!

  • just another fantistic song by Tanya that never..never got enough radio airplay..

    foo fighter/Nirvana on drums?

  • as a whole, the music seems better back then...

  • Take your hat off, boy, when you're talkin' to me. <3

If I could sing like anyone it would be Tanya Donelly.

  • If someone asked me to describe the 1990s in one music video, I'd show them this one.
