you could also change the prop to a deeper pitch , at one piont when it was climbing at wide open throttle it seemed the prop did not have the pitch to match the motor causing the blades to flatten out and caused the motor to over heat & lost compression . It happend to me with a 1/2 scal p40 flying tiger , I had the 24 inch prop with a pitch of 10 in witch i should of had a pitch of 8.
I assume this runs on gas, now I am a commercial student now with about 200 or so hours, and was thinking from what I have learned it either had a gas leak and ran out, or two, the lubrication substance (I assume oil) was very low and the crankshaft did not want to rotate inside the crankcase, and seized the engine... therefore seizing the prop...
@spidernad1 well thanks for the kind words of my misunderstanding, most Youtuber's would jump at the chance to rip on someone who did not read the description, but I am glad they are both plausible, that means I am learning something, right? ;D
@mitropoulosilias I was at the end of the runway so I tried to flair it to get it to slow down and land before the tall weeds, but I was going down wind and she stalled. Maybe the weeds would have been a better option. OR, If I swooped around the other way and came in up wind I wouldn't have run out of runway and lift. But you know it's always easier to choose the right option when your relaxed at home and have a couple seconds to think about it. Hindsight is 20 20.
@spidernad1 you are true about the stress of the moment. i have seen rc pilots that flying for years, that do stupid landings by acting under the presure of a malfunction of the plane... crashing a plane i think is something that every pilot is going to face... have a crazy flights and non damage landings!!!!
You probably could have swooped around in a circle once before coming in. Might have given you that extra room you needed. Not sure what the winds were doing though, so idk. It sucks to see that happen though, I'm sorry for the loss :-(
@ThrottleWFO - Very good point. I feel the same way when I watch this. If I swooped around the other way and came in up wind instead of down wind I wouldn't have run out of runway and lift. But you know it's always easier to choose the right option when your relaxed at home and have a couple seconds to think about it. Thanks for the kind words. : )
@spidernad1 Yeah, I know what you mean for sure. Every time I crash on camera I look back on it and think about what I should have done differently, haha. It's never easy making those kind of quick make-or-break decisions with a plane like that so I totally understand. It's what keeps us on our toes though & if you ain't crashin, you ain't flyin', right? :-) Have fun man!
It was made by CYModels, I'm guessing in China. I got it from Texas RC. I don't see it on their site any more but they still have the single seat Castrol version which I think is the better one anyway. w w w . texasrcplanes . com/ed540rcaiarf.html

@codzomz Not at all, your hypotheses were both plausible.

is that a redaero pilot in your hempel?
DHRisSICK98 1 month ago
@DHRisSICK98 No, it's the pilot that Bill included with the plane. I think he sells them separately on his site.

wow when he pulled the rudder up to take it outta the hold, I couldve sworn he was going to mangle the prop on the ground.

When you dead stick you have to dive in fast and ride it out level until it drops

@spidernad1 Tough situation to be in as you only have seconds to react, nice to be higher up when it happens.
Happens to all of us at some time or another.

Some of that Gorilla tape should fix that. Bummer! Looks fixable though.
