i've had a very similar issue with a cdj. the pitch- bend button was faulty and got stuck on mid set. shit happens and equipment is always prone to fail.

There are many reason why this could have happened, it's nothing to do with him or the organisation... Maybe i'm wrong but I very doubt it was eithers fault. Sometimes things like this JUST HAPPEN...WHOEVER'S fault it was all that matters is that he continued playing his set.

@RoyceZ1 I agree with you that DJing was more of an ART back in the days but I believe that DJS like Tiesto who used to mix with vinyl and were PROS back then should be allowed to do it now via traktor - Serato .... etc....

I personally use Traktor but don't use the SYNC option... technology makes it easier....

I use to carry heavy vinyl bags or cd bags back in the days and now i just need the laptop & traktor. You still use the CDJs or Technics mk 1210 with traktor & serato ,,,,,,so all good

Many people here seem to be DJ, at least they're commenting like beeing professionals. But if you are, you should be able to see that this was a technical problem, probably due to a fault that happened when burning the CD, or it was just some kind of pollution. This could happen to anyone who's using CDJ stuff, same as a big scratch in vinyls could also totally make you fuck up. Of course there are DJs having better skills, but for what if nobody knows them? He's on the top, that's just a fact!

@Capeau Dude you're right, but these were probably not his players, and I guess he couldn't play every single track on these players before doing his performance. Technical problems like this are a combination of maybe a CD that has some kind of an error but also a player that doesn't read it properly anymore. I say this because I had the same problem several times, my own players didn't make any problems while reading the CDs but when playing them on stage one player started to jump...

I DJ also, but it doesnt matter... Jumping CD's happens most of the time because of vibrations as a result of crappy deck setup.

But this is Tiesto we're talking about, not some cheap wanna-b DJ kid playin gigs at college parties. He's get payed allot because he is expected to know what he's doing and deliver quality. Part of his responsibility is to check his tools.

We even don't know if he was using CDs or maybe some USB sticks and - as we all know - there can always be some bugs that you'd never expect. I've to say it again, you can't check every single track on stage before starting your gig or they'd have to install two decks, one for the gig and one for testing ;o) But I agree with your arguments dude! When I'm working on a mix or doing a performance, every now and then, if I'm loading a new song to one of the decks, the song playing mutes and it won't allow me to turn the sound up, and it won't allow me to play anything else. It's not like this has never happened before. Mistakes happen.
