@security7563494 I have home servers because I host things. The file server has 6.36TB worth of information on it. I host game servers for my friends, on-line radio station, websites, etc...
I could put it in a data center, but then I have to access everything via the internet, and its just faster to do it on my LAN.
@BlueRollinCoal hey dude i need some advice. I plan to buy a server for storage and opening my own website. something similiar to stickam. if you have any information or reccommend anybeginner books i should read on servers please let me know asap. ty
Do you have any complaints or likes in connection with that Netgear JGS524? I've got to write a piece on it and know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING either about the Netgear JGS524 or about running large networks or, indeed, about technology at all.
It would really help me if you could just bullet point one or two pros and cons and I'd be able to shake that out to 300 words.
Then get, or download window 7 or even better download window server 2008 r2 and use window 7 loader. :) and convert to workstation faster then window 7 but like it or not it is still window 7 on drugs. :)
Most of the 300 lbs is a weight in the base to keep it from tipping over. Black Box is like Sears for IT stuff - basically everyday things rebadged with their logo and much higher price. I have a Mayline like yours I bought from state auction for $75 and it retails for $2450.
I just bought a server rack from work. Mine is about 2 feet shorter, but I paid $5 for it. It's in great condition, I'll have no problem filling it once I get the money for everything.
Nice video, agreed with others can't see much but it was an interesting video and I've read your setup looks nice. Subscribed, so please keep us updated :)
Nice, does the firewall with two gigabit interfaces and pfsense introduce much packet transfer delay compared with a firewall security appliance (sonicwall or PIX ?)
M8, love the walkthrough, and NUP the fans did not show up clearly in the video...LOL :D
I am looking at setting up a mobile GAME server for XBOX360 / Laptop (LAN Party Events) in my local area. Just wondering if you could explain your Game Server in more detail, and we would be running an IN HOUSE Event (Not Via NET) The switch and windows server seams to be the go. Any Info you can provide would be ace. I have last week set up my first home office network, (Two Laptops and a XBOX360 all!
Connected to the same MoDEM/Switch. I am just looking at a Mobile Base system to run 25 - 50 connected machines for my LAN Party, which I am organising for the local community. I am fairly new to this so any help would be gr8.
Been Computing since the Sinclar Machine and the BBC Micros.....yep im 40...LOL :D
I've used m0n0wall in the past, and while its nice, I prefer PFSense for some of the packages that it offers. Its not like PFSense stresses the machine its running on anyways, even with my 50/10 connection.
For Starters man, Excellent Rack and a bargain from what has been said.
I also like your Hardware you are running,
No need to have a fancy prancy monitor in your rack, most servers are managed through remote desktop or some sort of VNC software.
A recommendation though, you have this sexy rack, rackmount your servers. Get a Rackmountable case of the internet or something and stick the motherboards of your servers in there and rackmount them! I recommend 2U!
That is a sweet rack. I did an internet search on the company and they are a very reputable company. Their products are high quality. for $200, that is a steal of the year. Keep up the good work. BTW what kind of screen resolution are you recording? Very quality recording. Recording resolution is good for low bandwidth connection. Anyways great network. Been watching your videos when your PfSense router had a floppy for the configuration file. LOL
Very nice! Going to look into upgrading my network to something like this.

why all this for something one good 1u or 2 u server can do? I'd sell all that and get 1 nice setup no bigger than 2u.

AHHHHHHAHAHA stfu that is the funniest stuff. But hey a 12 year old server would be great for ftp and as webserver. :) Even hosting quake servers. :)

You know I never call my home servers 'home servers' just because Home means stripped down in software. Windows XP Home Edition is a great example.

Is there a noticeable difference in temperture inside of the container since it has a cooling system? Nice deal btw.
NayokeHenji 1 year ago
@NayokeHenji No, the fans in the top of the rack keep it at room temp. Without the fans it does get a little warm in there though.

Nope, its just a wireless access point, nothing more. I use the PFSense firewall as the VPN server as well.
