Republicans keep shooting for the hate ticket. Punish an entire university for what a few students did and place it on the air waves as a wedge issue. I'm sure they're not willing to punish those Westboro church fundamentalists who protests soldiers funerals because those extremist hate the same people Republicans do, but they'll punish an entire university for a handfull of students who were trying to get arrested.
Liberal extremists on the City Council of Berkeley, California recently passed a resolution labeling brave United States Marines as unwelcome and uninvited visitors within the city's boundaries.
The bill would not punish "liberal extremists" - it would punish students of UC Berkeley, take away funding for lunch from students in the Berkeley school district, and a ferry (which working people use) who had nothing to do with the protests.

Have you been to UC Berkeley? Have you done any research at all? UC Berkeley is home to nuclear physicists and picked the team and designed the atomic and hydrogen bomb. They are members of the PAC-10 and graduate many scientists, MBA's, engineers and hundreds of other pretty non-"liberal type" majors.
Boo hoo. They can thank themselves and/or their parents for constantly electing a bunch of nuts who decided it would be a great idea to enable the extremists. God forbid, they might have to take some responsibility for their own actions and get a time-out on all the federal handouts.
So basically arirhodes, what you are saying is that the democrat/leftist controlled CA state govt/local berkeley govt, are SO bad, that they cannot even feed school kids without federal help, despite all those high property values (thus larger tax revenues than many other areas of the country)? Sounds like you just made one of the best arguments yet as to why Californian's need to throw out the leftists who infect that states govt structure from local to the state level.

Maybe it's just me because I'm both an American and a Marine but aren't students of UC Berkeley "liberal extremeists"?
Why should we be paying for their lunches?
Why should we be paying for anything on their campuses?
Mark Udall doesn't stand for anything American and as an American, I'm not surprised by his position in this instance.
