Just made it, doubled the recipe. I used red pepper instead of pimentos and garlic paste in place of garlic powder. why? Because that's what I had on hand. I placed it in a pretty dish instead of rolling in pecans. I'll sprinkle a little paprika on it before serving this weekend. Really good, Thank you for sharing...
Does this recipe use garlic powder or garlic salt? I noticed in the video you said garlic powder but when you listed the ingredients below the video you wrote garlic salt. I really want to make this recipe this weekend. Thanks Betty!
@806nena Hi! I just checked the video, and it is garlic salt; I misstated it in the video. Thanks for letting me know, and I hope you enjoy the recipe; we love it!
I died laughing when you said garlic powder, "just enought to say you put some in." Haha. love me a Krogers too! I do have one quesiton about the cheddar, does it stay creamy at room temp and blend well with the cream cheese? Or can you tell it's shredded?
@BrodyDarlin When you mix the cheeses together, it doesn't look like the cheddar cheese is shredded; if you are concerned about that, you can mix it with an electric mixer until it is smooth, before adding the other ingredients.
Thanks for your compliment, and I will pass along to thanks to my sister. Regarding other vegetables to add, it already has onion, green pepper, and pimiento, so I would feel comfortable adding minced celery, and maybe a little minced radish. I wouldn't want to overpower the cheese flavor--but a few additions are fine!
that look wonderful! what a great idea to roll it into pecan pieces too. i think i'm going to try this out on thanksgiving. thanks betty:) and thanks to your sister too!
It is a little more substantial and tasty than your typical cheese ball. We love it around here--but, for some reason, the only time of the year we have it is at Christmas! Well, we enjoyed it *early* this year!!! Thanks for your comment! Have a beautiful day!
Sure, this cheese ball is great without any kind of nuts. Just use a knife to smooth it into a ball, and serve it with butter crackers or veggies--It will be great! Thanks for your question!
I am so glad I found you. Your videos are professional, clear and precise. Plus your kitchen is always so beautiful. You also seem to have a great cameraman/woman.
Nothing beats a good cheese dip (ball) at a party and this seems as if it would most certainly rise to the occasion of being a huge hit. Looks delicious! Thanks Betty =)
Betty! I think this is the very recipe that my aunt used to make when I was a little girl! She started my life long love of horsdeovres. I'm so excited to have this recipe available to me again!
That's wonderful--You'll find about half of my recipes are "old school"--and the rest updated or original! I'm glad there are some people out there who like the old, tried and true recipes! I hope the cheese ball turns out great for you! Thanks for commenting, Patsy!
Thanks! My sister is *so* not into doing the computer thing! We are very different--except we both learned to cook growing up! Thanks for your comment!
These look amazing Betty I might have to show this to my mom.

Betty, this looks fabulous! Thank you very much for sharing your sister's recipe.
Do you think the cheese balls can be made up a week in advance, wrapped and frozen, until ready for use?
OneHappyBird123 2 years ago
Thanks! Yes, you may freeze cheese balls for a week or longer. Just make sure that all of the ingredients freeze well.

Looks delicious & whats great about it is, its easy to prepare, I am going to try it very soon.
One quick question though - what other veggies can be added to the dish to compliment the overall flavor?
Please convey a heartfelt thanks to your sister & thank you for sharing the amazing recipe!
