@punnybone04 Back when it was released I heard the songwriter on a visit to an orphanage saw a boy carrying a younger boy on his back around the schoolyard. Upon being asked if his burden wasn't heavy, he said, "He ain't heavy. He's my brother."
@Sloney1969: that may be "urban myth" but Graham Nash didn't write the song, and the real story is much much older (I tried to post a link here but it funked - however if you Google it you'll see what I'm talking about...)
Graham Nash saw someone in Manchester carrying a disabled lad around... and Urban myth says that he asked him why he carries him everywhere... is he not heavy... and the title is his reply.....???
Kasey Kasem did 2 stints as host of American Top 40 Radio Show. I believe it is currently hosted by Ryan Seacrest. I listened to Kasey for the first 15 years. Wonderful time for music I tell ya!!!
@cel1888tic Casey Kasem who hosted America's top-40 from 1970-2004, was also the voice of Shaggy from the cartoon show "Scooby-Doo". His wife Jean appeared in several episodes of the sit-com "Cheers" as the character of Nick Tortelli's (played by Dan Hedaya) (dumb blonde second wife Loretta). Nick Tortelli's character was first married to the character of Carla the barmaid (played by Rhea Perlman, Danny Devito's real life spouse).
Our Franky Bubba Boo passed away at 4am, January 28th,2011....we tried everything to keep him alive. So sad to see him pass in front of us in our home. He spoke to me right before he went....So dramatic and sad....the song fits....he had a bad heart and was supposed to pass within 6 months and lived for 7 years, almost 8 years...So sad to hear him say goodbye to me...WE LOVE YOU BOO!!!
One of the Greatest Songs Ever....Heartfelt Words Evoke Powerful Feelings. This song could be adoped as our New National Anthem which would Unite Brothers and Sisters bringing us to Our True Greatness All Due to the Power of LOVE.

What a great voice. This is not even lip-synched. Looks like he sang it live.
