I saw a Band called Shiehallion preforming this song in Inverness! Never saw it at a runrig concert, but the singer of Shiehallion announced it as his favourite Runrig Song ;)
Scotland is a master at dressing up something grey, windblasted and rained out as the most amazing place on the planet. It's almost like every song needs to be about how fantastic Scotland to make you stop thinking what a dump it is. Actually I love the place to bits but I'm here in Hong Kong and the weather, the food, the mountains, the beaches are all pretty comparable but there aren't 5000 songs written to convince you of it.
@eekybee66. Phi Phi Island in Thailand, Guilin in China, the Alps in Switzerland etc. etc.... I love Scotland but every time I visit it rains and then the weather clears up and you get eaten by midgies.
The thing I admire so much about Runrig (aside from their immense talent) is their ability to convey--and inspire--pride, loyalty and passion for Scotland through their brilliant music. And they do it with respect and great sensitivity.
Come to America, lads--we could use some songs of hope and cheer.
I grew up in Sutherland, a magnificently beautiful part of the world. I left many years ago, but love going back home. i know all the places in the song, and i feel homesick listening to it. i think i will now go and organise a trip home lol.
Thanks for the details, in the meantime I become quite a fan of Ivan's work, I just returned from Scotland with the new DVD made by Ivan with Duncan Chisholm (A Long December Night). It is fantastic!

And it's up by the Shin
And up by the 'Naver
And the long winding shores
Of Loch Maree
By Ben Hope and Ben Loyal
By Stack and by Arkle
