To save on most replies, if you want your hair to turn silver. You have to bleach it up to a very pale yellow; as in the colour of the inside of a banana. Toner will only lift up from that stage. I'm a professional and also have silver hair constantly somewhere on my head at some point, very difficult to get/maintain but it is so worth it! Good video btw. (:

hello, went to the salon spent shitloadds of money and instead of GREY I have basic blonde highlights and I NEED grey for work (in a play) asap! Can I use silver shampoo on my hair and that would suffice? Or should I go platinum (using manic panic's Virgin Snow) then putting the silver shampoo on? @80akimi if you don't want permanent I would suggest going for the shampoo, thankfully white is the easiest colour to dye over, so if you had to you could bleach it to white/grey and then re-dye it when you're done in the play :) it is a big commitment and can damage your hair but might be worth it! Otherwise I would try a toner and a purple shampoo, it should take away most of the 'blonde' parts and turn then grey/white :) xoxo

well i have since dyed my hair back to it's natural colour, but when I had it white it was a case of always conditioning and letting it deep condition a lot. I would also heartily recommend a leave in conditioner and a conditioning/heat protecting serum! It's also worth investing in a better conditioner as it really will make a difference, hope this has helped! Feel free to ask me any questions if you have them :) xox

Depending on your natural hair colour you may have to bleach it a few times (and if you've dyed it dark it will take a lot longer!) but that process of bleaching and using a toner/purple shampoo will get you to white hair :) xox
It's sending my hair sliver from mid lenths to the ends, and then at the roots, it's yellow as shit, what do you recommend to get rid of the yellowness?
I would honestly recommend just persevering, sometimes the pigment is stronger in certain areas, especially if you've dyed it darker previously. Sometimes it's just a pain in the arse! xox

@urworstnightmarebish the yellow is brassyness. you can try a shampoo called Light Blonde Shade or you can try getting a toner called Ivory Lady by wella (warning don't leave it on more than 15 minutes if your hair is light)
The generic version of shimmer lights, its like that silve shampoo but it gets rid of the yellowness. You could also use a toner, too. You can buy both of these at sally's :)
Use a purple toner or just leave the purple shampoo on longer...just there. OR you might need ta bleach it again (yuck) It must be the color of the inside of a banana no matter what for it to work, though...

My apologies for taking so long to respond! I would suggest wearing a swim cap (I know they aren't the nicest things, but they do save your hair!) they not only protect your hair from the chlorine/salt in pools and stop it drying out they will also protect the colour!

@rhb999 if you have a salon services near you go in and buy the clynol color+care silver reflex shampoo it is amazing get the salon size 1500 and the pump to go with it it smells gorgeous also it should only cosy you about £15 or soo or if you tell them your a student studying ahirdressing you get a trade card and you can get trade discount :)

@goodatlifeyerrmint there is a colour you can buy from any sallys shop called igora royal anti yellow. it is £10 a tube but if you put it in with the bleach it will cancel out any yellow

i had chocolate hair and i used this it went from light whity blonde on the top and yelloi orange at the bottem but after a few applications it worked and now i have snow white hair just make sure you use loads of conditioer .after you wash your hair put loads of conditioner on and wrap your head in cling film and leave it for an hour it will make ur hair fine . :D you can get the dye in boots its about 4.60 .
hey! I dyed my hair off of black, so don't worry it is possible! But it will take a while. I would suggest not using the XXL colour as it is not a bleach and will take a lot more applications when working off of black dye. Use a power bleach like b blonde for best results (3 full head applications will cost about £8-£10) it also wont react with toners (which could leave you hair pink!) just take your time with it and you'll get there. let me know how it goes!

toners are semi permanent pigments designed to counter the colour of your hair to achieve your desired colour. I'd say putting it on black wouldn't be a problem :) as black is such a heavy colour there shouldn't be a reaction. You could always test a strand first to make sure it doesn't go wrong! Also some toners can be quite expensive, so it'll last longer if you just use it on the blonde.
Purple shampoo will be fine all over and is very nourishing!
I am on my way to getting this lovely shade of hair. I'm at a yellowy stage right now, but I figure a few more bleaches and It'll be all silver. My question is, Do you have any tips for root touch-ups ??
I do my roots using 20-20vol bleach and mix in a little toner (probably about 10-20ml) which helps remove any yellow straight away. After bleaching i immediately tone my whole head and it comes out matching my hair :)
otherwise just make sure your hair id slightly greasy when bleaching as this will protect the hair and use a great conditioner!
@rhb999 The problem with that is, I am stuck in a town where other then box dye and toning shampoo, I can't get many products for hair coloring . . . Theres no beauty supply store. Sooo . . I have to get it done professionally or use a box dye. I WISH I could just tone it myself but sadly no =[

@tblt2056 id personally recommend doing it after every bleach :) it means overall you'll bleach you hair les because the toner will cancel out the nasty yellow :)
the silver shampoo contains a toner, but actual bottled toners ( i did a vid on my 3 favourite ones) is a semi permanent dye. The purple tones counter the yellow and make the hair a more neutral colour.

I used 40vol to start but i use 20vol on my roots now, purley because it does less damage and dosn't vaguely irritate my scalp!
If you bleech more than once I'd give it a week between bleechings and lots of deep conditionings between! you can use toner straight away (and silver shampoo with every wash) but an hour or a day will damage it so much!

I managed to get dark grey hair using the wella toner, but be careful, it reaches with hair colours so make sure your hair is bleeched not coloured otherwise it'll turn pink!
Head an shoulders is a clarifying shampoo and is very very drying :S I wouldnt suggest that for bleached hair at all if you can help it, the same with silver sensations, most toners are very drying. You should also only tone once a week. Saying that, your hair looks very healthy for white!
you can get different ranges in head and shoulders, for coloured hair and deep treatment etc :) i've always found they work a treat but it could be personal preference!
A for toner, yeah they dry your hair horribly, that's why you can never stop conditioning.

i have a very big question for you! i had quite light blonde hair. i went swimming in a saltwater pool, and now its almost back to yellow, like the way i had bleached it, before using purple shampoo!!! crap!!!! i wasted all the money on the shampoo! is there any way to avoid this happenning when swimming? i go swimming for excesise..

My apologies for taking so long to respond! I would suggest wearing a swim cap (I know they aren't the nicest things, but they do save your hair!) they not only protect your hair from the chlorine/salt in pools and stop it drying out they will also protect the colour!

@rhb999 if you have a salon services near you go in and buy the clynol color+care silver reflex shampoo it is amazing get the salon size 1500 and the pump to go with it it smells gorgeous also it should only cosy you about £15 or soo or if you tell them your a student studying ahirdressing you get a trade card and you can get trade discount :)

I just bleached my hair a few days ago, I stripped it first because I used to dye my hair bright orange/red then I used a pretty weak bleach on it so it didn't ruin my hair too much. But now it's kinda yellowy in fact really yellow....was wondering if you had any tips on how I can get it your colour. i had chocolate hair and i used this it went from light whity blonde on the top and yelloi orange at the bottem but after a few applications it worked and now i have snow white hair just make sure you use loads of conditioer .after you wash your hair put loads of conditioner on and wrap your head in cling film and leave it for an hour it will make ur hair fine . :D you can get the dye in boots its about 4.60 .

hey! I dyed my hair off of black, so don't worry it is possible! But it will take a while. I would suggest not using the XXL colour as it is not a bleach and will take a lot more applications when working off of black dye. Use a power bleach like b blonde for best results (3 full head applications will cost about £8-£10) it also wont react with toners (which could leave you hair pink!) just take your time with it and you'll get there. let me know how it goes!

toners are semi permanent pigments designed to counter the colour of your hair to achieve your desired colour. I'd say putting it on black wouldn't be a problem :) as black is such a heavy colour there shouldn't be a reaction. You could always test a strand first to make sure it doesn't go wrong! Also some toners can be quite expensive, so it'll last longer if you just use it on the blonde.
Purple shampoo will be fine all over and is very nourishing!

I do my roots using 20-20vol bleach and mix in a little toner (probably about 10-20ml) which helps remove any yellow straight away. After bleaching i immediately tone my whole head and it comes out matching my hair :)
otherwise just make sure your hair id slightly greasy when bleaching as this will protect the hair and use a great conditioner!

the john frieda stuff is nice, makes your hair feel lovely, but the silver shampoo will colour your hair nicely.

@tblt2056 id personally recommend doing it after every bleach :) it means overall you'll bleach you hair les because the toner will cancel out the nasty yellow :)
the silver shampoo contains a toner, but actual bottled toners ( i did a vid on my 3 favourite ones) is a semi permanent dye. The purple tones counter the yellow and make the hair a more neutral colour.
toner will always help you get the yellow out :)

I used 40vol to start but i use 20vol on my roots now, purley because it does less damage and dosn't vaguely irritate my scalp!
If you bleech more than once I'd give it a week between bleechings and lots of deep conditionings between! you can use toner straight away (and silver shampoo with every wash) but an hour or a day will damage it so much!

I managed to get dark grey hair using the wella toner, but be careful, it reaches with hair colours so make sure your hair is bleeched not coloured otherwise it'll turn pink!

Head an shoulders is a clarifying shampoo and is very very drying :S I wouldnt suggest that for bleached hair at all if you can help it, the same with silver sensations, most toners are very drying. You should also only tone once a week. Saying that, your hair looks very healthy for white!

you can get different ranges in head and shoulders, for coloured hair and deep treatment etc :) i've always found they work a treat but it could be personal preference!
A for toner, yeah they dry your hair horribly, that's why you can never stop conditioning.

now using the purple shampoo. Once your hair is is the desired hue of white, if you stop using it does the colour(or lack of colour lol) shift at all or do you need to use it forever? (excluding redoing roots of course)
