I remember playing this game growing up.  This is back in the classic days of gaming when you didn't have any of the new stuff now, and you had to work your magic just to get the game to work by blowing into the bottom of the game. Fun times!

I bought the game on the Virtual Console the other day, and got addicted to it again. Awesome game with an awesome soundtrack!

@AnthoFlex I was actually quoting what I used as a 6 year old kid before figuring out the best ways of playing the game. Ultimately, I'd say Mario with offensive lazy shell, Bowser with lazy shell armor and drill claw (boost his attack more than anything when leveling him up so he's still useful with lazy shell), Geno with Star Gun, and an item set full of pick-me-ups. Works every time.

To be honest though, I think it's a bit 'cheap' to use the Lazy Shell items. I think it's more fun to use normal items, at least.

@keetner I don't think Mario's lazy shell weapon is very cheap. I think the Mario weapon considered the next best is either the Ultra Hammer or that womp glove that makes his hands huge when he punches. I'm pretty sure that those are pretty damn close to as good as Lazy Shell, and sometimes actually deal out basically the same amount of damage. But yeah, the lazy shell armor pretty much guarantees a win in even the most challenging battles of the game unless you suck total balls. I agree w/ you

Whatever happened to that, I kinda miss it. Now it is all "dark" and "Consequenses of your actions". @MrKinkypanther I actually really enjoyed FF12, because it was something fresh and different in a series that seems more keen on following a stale formula. A lot of people hated it for this same reason; too different.

...but then 13 went the opposite direction; cutting out sidequests, NPCs, towns, shops, money, healing after battles... pretty much anything that requires more thought than just hitting one button every so often, was cut. :\

It's kind of sad to look back on this game, really. This was back during Square's golden age. Everything they touched turned to gold. They had Final Fantasy 6(5 and 4, too), Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, Secret Of Mana... so many fantastic RPGs, that all became classics.

What do we have now? Final Fantasy 13. Yay. -.-

But then FF13 comes out, and is even staler, more linear, and more cookiecutter of an installment than any other... and the fanboys ate it up. The hell is wrong with people? >.>
