Hey sorry to burst your bubble but your mile is probably not accurate because that would be a world record. And I have a feeling that you don't train 6 or more hours a day like the world record holder.
wooooooooaaaaah. they shouldn`t be lifting there head until about 30m down the track not 5-10m, they should still be driving and having there head down. but if this is 4 younger athletes who don`t have enough strength to drive that long, its understandable but for middle school or high school and up, they should be driving longer than that.
Good enough for me. Ijust run cause I like it, did track because I enjoy it. And with those times I did fairly decent. Although I'm not really a 100 runner coaches weeded me out of that the last couple years do to the short and white factor...
Lol I cant wait im gunna be Running too For summer and a lil advice for all runners try to get 2 pairs of spikes one for training and one for the real races
all this is good but some efficiencies are gained naturally like Michael Johnson's form. He never ran leaning forward. WR in 400 and WR in 200 only recently broken by bolt.
last year when i was 13 my fastest was 13.2, this year (14) my best was 12.3 but i had a lot of a wind advantage, but yes your doing pretty well :) keep it up
@allenparkrunning Way set bar bro! its definately not about winning, but if you are having fun, you will be relaxed and if you are relaxed then you will be swifter if you are swifter, you will incure more challenges to find after breaking your own personal records(PR's in your case 12.66). Want to get faster?watch this vid 1 more time and go run a few hills really hard, but warm up accurately of course
are you already in highschool or are you just finish elementary?
[no bragging intended] but when I was 14 in grade 9 I was running 11 mid consistently in the 100. My pb in my first year was 11.30 elec and that was also my first year ever running.
Most ppl in my region were running 11 high, 12 low also at the time.
so if you're in grade 8 then you're on the right track and in good shape.
12. 6 is fast for your age. Anything under 12 is movin pretty good by general public standards. HS varsity 100m winners at meets are usually high 10's. College is mid to low 10's. With work you might be right there.
What's the farthest distance a runner can or should run on their forefoot for the fastest time for that distance?
Assuming that I worked a lot on my turnover, trying to get as much muscular endurance practicing an exaggerated turnover, AND I developed huge muscular/ vascular calves, could I beat out "distance" runners using a form that is more a closely associated with that of a sprinter's?
Developing huge muscular calves will be a downfall if your goal is to become an elite distance runner because it is extra weight you need to carry. Lactic acid builds much quicker in your system in the sprint with fast turnover, which will make it near impossible to hold it for too long.
It really depends on what level of competition you are at. In high school, an elite 400 runner would be able to hold a sprint for at least 75% of the race. In college, it would be standard.
My distance runners are more relaxed in their movement to avoid overwork of unnecessary muscles. They still have the forward body lean and work on fast turnover, but their foot strikes a little more flat than sprinters. Its a common misconception that distance runners should have a LONG stride because that makes them over stride too and puts pressure on their heels.
The key to elite distance running is endurance and mental toughness.
If your distance runners don't already run on their midfoot or "toes", they're not that good, or at least they could be better. For the 1 mile or less, you ough't to be directly on your toes for a race, and for everything over, even training runs, you should land with your heel and forefoot hitting at the same time directly under your body. I used to run heel to toe, and then switched to toe running, or midstrike running. It was hard on my calfs at first, but became easy in only 2 or 3 weeks.
I practice 30m sprint in a slight upward ground almost everyday. Is technique just as important as having explosice muscles, and is this going to help my soccer?
instead of focusing on listening for the gun, focus on exploding off the line. if you listen for the gun, your brain will acknowledge the shot and then tell your muscles to move. If you just think about exploding, you will hear the shot regardless and you time will improve.
great video but i can tell you are a highschool coach. the video is way to basic. pumping your arms faster does not make you faster, going faster is all about how much force you apply to the track, getting full extension, and proper angles. not how fast your arms/legs move. the whole line from your nose to your belly button thing?!! where the hell did you get that?! have you seen the pictures in your slideshow? and in the blocks part you focus on the head when you should be focusing on the arms!
Of course, Im a high school coach, pro and collegic runners shouldnt be cruising youtube for form.
I just made the video to help solve some of the most common problems ive seen. I say to pump your arms harder because i see way too many runners hang their arms to the side.
Im not saying I know everything about running, Im just answering questions to the best of my ability. Every coach has a different coaching philosophy, so if anyone disagrees, feel free to say something.
I don't disagree but, if the cadence of the arms determine the cadence of the legs, has anyone ever considered speed drills for the arms (perhaps with exaggerated movment) or other exercises that improve the speed of the arms? I imagine it would look kinda unusual so maybe you might need a privacy curtain for this.
in the 200 my arms start to burn at the last 30-40 meters. should i do curls, benching or both to fix this . and also does lifting at a younger age cuz im 15 stunt ur growth?
First, its hard to say without seeing your race or your training. Ultimate decisions should be made by your coach. Also, I'm assuming you are older and can handle the training. Younger runners should really limit their training to stay healthy.
However, theres a few things you could try.
I always train my runners to race longer than their events. 100 runners practice the 150, 200 runners practice the 300.
Also, try to throw in more endurance / distance training. 8-10 400s in between 65-70 seconds is a tough practice for most high schoolers. These are all high intensity to build your endurance.
The most important one is to remember that even though track season is over, doesnt mean you can sit around.
Take a break from running but hit the weight room and strengthen the core muscle groups throughout the year. Do drills like box jumps to stay agile. Make sure you consult a trainer or coach to lift and do the drills correctly! Dont bulk up so much that it slows you down!
REMEMBER, stay positive and work hard. Keep it fun and don't let it get you down. Attitude is huge in track.
If you are losing the race after 50m then your start is the issue. Getting out of the blocks first does not mean you have a good start.
All the advice is sound, but if you are not being efficient at the start of the race then increasing your endurance will help but not solve the issue of being in-efficient.
The question what to do? That can't be answered in this little space.
Relax at the line and practice starts. Remember that youve done it a million times before.
Running is very fluid and if you tense the wrong muscles youre not only throwing off your form, but using much needed strength and oxygen.
Without seeing its hard to say, but try relaxing your shoulders by lowering them, that is one common thing I see with my athletes. Get those arms moving too, they are key to your acceleration.
everyone knows that, and i have NO idea why this video is praising him... good job but, you beat a world record, fast a hell, but cheater nontheless
asafa powell is the fastest, CLEANEST man on earth... and oh way, he beat 9.77 and got 9.74! thats without drugs, and he was tested each time :) until i hear otherwise, he's the man!
You have no idea how many chemicals are out there that can't be detected. I'll give you an exemple: "the clear"! How long did it take them to detect the "clear" (used around late 90's)! So do yourself a favor and do some research first, before just writing something on youtube. Yes, Gatling tested positive however, you don't how many are running using enhancing drugs and have not got caught, because they're using new chemicals that cannot be detected! So,
in the 4x4 the first hand off is in the lane, but the second and third hand-off are after the runners cut in. these hand-offs are slower and you can do a distance or sprint handoff depending on what the athlete is most comfortable with
cool vid. To really sprint fast all you need to do is have good arm and leg motion. ur hands should come up to ur ears and your thigh should come high too. also. dont bob ur head and just and be light on ur feet.
True, I mispoke on that one. However, it is very unnatural to run straight up on your toes and the foot-strike should correct naturally as long as kids aren't plopping down on their heels.
