No marriage is perfect, all marriages go thru bad and the good, but it's a commitment to stick by each other through all. Many people lose their passion after a while but you still work at it the best you can because it's a solemn promise you made when you brought new lives into the world. To me, the problem arises when we forget the basics: Love must exist first, then we should get married, then we should have children. Most of us get married not knowing what love is, just because of tradition. We want to be like everybody else, have a family and children. Once we figure out we really do not love our spouse, we may alreay have children. Now we are obligated, we have to chose to give up on love for the rest of our lives or to hurt our children & spouse ending it all. Not easy!
