I think it's safer than a mask in a lot of ways. Look at most of goalies head injuries. Miller and Reimer both missed time this year due to concussions from collisions where their 'safer' masks went flying off where the SK2000 most likely would have stayed put and done it's job.

Hasek switched to a Warwick mask in 2002. It was a remake of the cooper sk 2000 helmet, but without the side bumpers you see on Ozzie's helmet. Osgood's cage was made by a company called "Olympia Composites". It's much stronger compared to the old cooper and bauer hm30s.
Just to clear things up for everyone, Osgood wears an original cooper sk2000 (small size). Since Cooper was bought out by Bauer, Osgood had a Bauer logo put on the front of the helmet (where the Cooper logo used to be) and put "Red Wings" stickers over the other Cooper logos on the side. He also has white tape covering the logo on the chin pad and red tape covering the Cooper "C" logo on the top of the helmet.
I wear the same set up as Ozzy wears, and it sure does hurt to get hit in the cage!
