Obama originally said that he would be getting a dog from a Shelter. Instead he goes for a Purebred, well-lined Portuguese Water Dog. I'm assuming that because it had a previous family it's considered to be rescued? Because obviously NO ONE would want a USED purebred, well-lined dog.

What makes you think a purebreed is healthy? They are very prone to genetic disorders. And what makes you think this water dog is a good "beginner" dog. Breeders say this kind of dog is more suitable for experienced owners. But King Osama and his family probably will never play with it other than an occasional toy-King Osama has a whole staff of servants to do the dirty work for them. Actually the breeder said this dog is NOT a "throw away" and could have very easily been resold and would never be a problem. I can't stand Obama now-he's an elitist. He chose to get a Portuguese water dog-a very expensive rare breeder dog. WIth millions unemployed, even starving, it's a poor choice. A shelter dog is too good for his royal majesty. Americans are probably EATING dog meat now just to stave off starvation. And he gets a fucking water dog from a breeder. Sick. Now the Obamas just encouraged American to buy from breeders, while countless MILLIONS are getting killed in pounds every year in the United states costing tax payers about a billion dollars a year to kill perfectly healthy dogs, cats, kittens and puppies. Breeders are adding to the pet overpopulation explosion. These PW dogs have a good amount of genetic disorders from inbreeding (a pure bred is a pure bred)-but they have the money for vet care. If all breeders acted like the one Obama's got their dog from...there would be much less need for animal shelters. DO YOU ALL REALIZE THAT??? You all shoot yourselves in the foot constantly. Even the Portuguese Water Dog website does NOT want people going out and getting these dogs just because the Obamas did. Freaking people need to learn to check their emotions, look at the big picture and pick thier battles...maybe more animals would be saved then.

They may say that, but people WILL. And they will be overwhelmed by the many VET BILLS because pure breds are at very high risk of getting genetic disorders due to being purebreds (i.e., incest - breeding a pure bred with a pure breds is still incest). They don't have the unlimited wealth his royal highness Obama does to spend on vet bills. Which I'm sure is 100% free to them.

He took in a returned dog that was a good fit for his daughters health and kept a PROMISE to them!!! He made a sizeable donation the the local DC Humane Society that will help save more dogs than if he simply adopted a shelter dog. YOU HARM ANIMALS!
