  • Did you know, one good Frenzy spell wipes out enemies' magic resistance? Well, that's how it works on my cartidge of the Sega-G. version. First cleric casts Frenzy, then sorceror casts Fingers Of Death, and Mega Dragon is killed! A lot quicker than you show us like!

  • damn, talk about oldschool RPG games..

  • holy shit. nostalgia tripping and goosebumps when i saw that opening screen and music.

  • I usually just have a the cleric and paladin w/fountain, but my hirelings are lvl255 Holey Moley and Friar Fly. With that, over 100k hps for each character and all resistances jacked, it usually take less than a minute. I actually find the 66 devil kings, or the odd area E2 200+ orc god battles tougher.

  • I believe it's because his cleric is in a better position to cast Mass Distortion, which does about 17000 pts of damage when the mega dragon is at full health.

  • Why is your cleric, Gene Eric in the first position of the front row?

  • @Argonova When your characters have the same speed rating, party order determines who goes first. By putting my cleric and paladin at the front, I was able to start the fight with two castings of Mass Distortion (this spell removes a big percentage of an enemy's current hp).

  • where can you download the original game?

  • That thing gives a pretty pithy reward given how tough it is.

  • Best ever game!

I remember we found a wand of wish with 99 charges, could dublicate items..

And it could dublicate it self..so we quickly made some wands of wishes and never ran out :D

  • I remember a 'bug' that can be exploited. If i remember, when you cast frenzy on it, for some reason it disables all of its resistance defenses. I've hit level 255 before. I always farm the ancient dragons in the dragon cave. Good exp and money :)

  • My god.

I remember I had enough trouble just leveling up to get level 7 spells the last time I played this. I can't imagine how anyone would have the patience to get to level 255 (let alone, how).

On a side note, this game was EPIC. One of its best charms was finally learning the spell "fly" and wandering around to find how many different ways there were to die. I once ended up in an area with a sign that said "Warning! Dinosaurs ahead!" I was then murdered by a group of T-Rex monsters.

  • There's a fixed encounter with three Cuisinarts (in B2, if I remember correctly). You can fight them repeatedly for tons of xp.

Btw, you're not the only one who wandered around with low level characters. ;)

  • To saucykobold: can You tell me where I can find the frost dragon to end up Paladins quest. I successfuly completed the game and entered the space ship but never fin out where the dragon is...

btw I played this game about 3 years, I started it on Amiga, the savegames worked under PC version, so I played it on dosbox.

  • Go to the Forbidden Forest cave at C3 (15,0). When you're inside, go to 8,8.

  • three Cuisinarts

I remember those dudes!!! They were ca$h + exp.!!!

  • Can someone tell me what a Cuisinart is? Is it some sort of knight?

  • Yeah, a Cuisinart is a type of knight. They're very dangerous melee enemies.

  • @n4mel3ss (cuisinart also is if you go north from the starting city with a couple hirelings, and then head west on the road (18 n, 27w, 8 n) or something, they will be in the mountains of b2 just off the road. A low level party can survive their frenzy with a heal or two, and collect beaucoup experience and weaps. But you might wipe out too. I think the trick exists on all platforms.

  • @stilllikesvikes i believe it does, atleast in the C64 version i have owned since it was new.

  • @MaverickLoneshark Its all about fighting Cuisinarts - they have the best exp return. Area B2 has a regular cuisinart encounter site. In my PC version, you could keep leveling up post-lvl255... all of my characters had over 100,000 hp by the time I stopped playing!

  • @scriabinish Good to know!

  • @scriabinish Yes but the cuisinart's location is randomly determined with each new game. That being said, once you've found him and killed him once you're set for take-off :)

  • I just realized - why is the Quagmire of Doom present in 800, when it was the Savanna of Plenty until Kalohn fought the Mega Dragon?

  • What kind of music is that on the beginning?

  • Damn thing has music like a Speak N' Spell.

  • Now that you killed him-- now what? You're already the max level, so the EXP didn't help you much. Did you alter the course of events in the game? I don't think so, but did you?

  • I don't think killing the Mega Dragon has any effect on the game, unfortunately.

  • i dont think that the devs thought of the possibility that someone would level up to 255 and go and kill the dragon without the Talon and orb :)

  • I did it a couple of days ago, and you don't really need to have a team over level 150. I used the six defaults plus two cleric hirelings, Photon Blades, and a bit of luck. As long as Mass Distortion keeps hitting and the Mega Dragon misses every once in a while you're good to go.

  • I should probably also state it was the Mega Drive/Genesis version, which apparently has a vastly different Mega Dragon to the PC version - Mass Distortion only drains 1/8 of his health, Implosion does 250 damage, and while he doesn't breathe energy he always eradicates on hit.

  • Interesting. It looks like enemies in the Genesis version get two chances (or saving throws) to halve spell damage. In the PC version, they get just one.

  • The genesis version is messed up. I wind up killing the mega dragon using frenzy and disintegrate on him. o_O No such luck on the PC version I'd imagine.

Also I've noticed on the genesis version that the mega dragon NEVER ever breathes energy. All he does is just attack and eradicate everyone. Kind of hard to formulate a strategy against that guranteed death.

Kids, just play the PC version. After playing The SNES, Genesis, and PC versions, PC comes out on top.

  • I heard about the Genesis version's Frenzy glitch a few months ago and tried it on the PC version. Didn't work. :(

  • The mega dragon on the PC is kind of an unknown, since back way way when I tried fighting him, I thought it was a classic "you can't win" boss battle. I know differently since then, but now I no longer have the old saves from said gaming session. All I remember is the breath, so that's why I was talking so much about enchanting silver gear all through the game. Then I get jacked in melee every turn. It was a real head-desk moment.

Fortunately, your video shows it would have been smart at least.

  • @RPGenie Odd. Frenzy is useless in the PC version. It's all about mass distortion, dancing sword and starburst.
