  • I want to clarify something from my previous comment. The website clipoman.com is in Russian but the two movie clips are in English.

  • FYI, there is a much better quality print of this on the website clipoman.com. This website is in Russian just as a head's up. The clip is only of the musical number. On the same website there is another clip from this movie. It's the "Half and Half" musical number where Jessie dances with her then current husband Sonnie Hale.

  • The picture image of this clip is terrible. Is it from a bootleg? TCM recently played this film within the last week or so and their print was 1000000x better than this!

  • Well why dont YOU take the time to upload it then? This is from an old VHS recording from a TV broadcast in the 80s.

  • Love Jessie Mathews to bad she never made any American film she would have been great with Astaire..

  • hollywood tried to woo the Dancing Divinity ( as she was known ) for years : she did briefly go there in the 1950's : will find a title and let you know !

  • tom thumb 1958

  • was her speciality ballet? or could she tap as well.

  • Tap, ballet, the works. She started as a chorus-line girl and got a lucky break when the leading lady of a show was ill, letting Jessie take over as understudy and getting a lot of attention. She was also considered daringly progressive in the 1920s and 30s for incorporating what were then called "negro" moves in to her routines.

  • beautiful voice. I have discovered her over the last two years ... thanks so much for posting

  • Do you know of a video of "The Good Companions"?I have most of her other films on video but accidentally recorded over this one and its a particular favourite of mine.

  • Your video clip is great and I've rated it as awesome. I've done another clip on some old cigarette cards of 1930's actors and actresses: Jessie Matthews, Charles Laughton, Gracie Fields, Florence Desmond, Boris Karloff from The Mummy, Laurence Olivier and many more.

  • In the 1930s, Jessie Matthews pushed and breached societal boundaries in the way Madonna did in the 80s and 90s. A criminally overlooked star and body culturist.
