  • dude this was posted on my bday

  • I only try this once at Kmart, and I was not impress

  • actually... wario cruise was renamed wario land.

  • whats te diffrence between the U.S and japan versons of mario tennis?

  • I f****** want this

  • Famicom 3D System???

    I was not aware :)

  • Game Boy + Virtual Boy = Nintendo 3ds. You're against gay marriage?

  • scary system

  • This system is best played through emulation!!! I play it on my Wii in 3D with 3D glasses. I had a Virtual boy when it came out and the games were good it you could actually play them! Also the red is overbearing. Again playing it on the wii with the glasses works better because it's not blaring red! I love emulation! ^_^

  • MUTANT MUDDS ON THE ESHOP COPIED WARIO WORLD'S JUMPING IN AND OUT OF THE FORGROUND AND BACKROUND MECHANICH

  • I see you have a 64DD

  • oh it is see

  • does this system count as being in the gameboy family because it has boy at the end????

  • @pancho123800

well its supposed to be portable xD

  • I remember my friend having one of these, I remember he had a head mount with it.

  • The Virtual Boy's 3d is better than 3ds's 3d.. There is no cross talk or ghosting like you get with the 3ds.. Because of this, I get more headaches with 3ds than I do with VB.. Such a shame green and blue led's were so expensive.. or the VB could have been great!

  • Even though this idea failed,it actually wasn't that bad,It's a shame it never hit-off.

  • Sonytards call the 3DS a virtual boy.Obviously,They haven't played either.

  • It should be automaticly pause EVERY SECOND.

  • 2:05 nintenda

  • thier making a 3d marro tennes now :3

  • I don't own a VB, but I'd like to see Rad Racer for the 3DS. Rad Racer was an NES game, which I own, that actually was meant to be played in 3D. They tried to implement the blue/red 3D effect, which you can turn on by pressing the Select button. It was really cool, that a game in the 80's tried to go for 3D.

  • They should remake the virtaul boy games for the 3DS and release it in the EShop, because the games weren't that bad.

  • WAIT! The 3Ds is going to have Mario Tennis just like the VIRTUAL BOY!

  • @aidwin85 and just like the wii, also like gamecube also like gameboy advance and gameboy colour and like super nintendo and many more....

  • i picked up 2 Virtual boys brand new for 35$ back in 1999

  • The father of the Nintendo 3DS.

  • @superpoop899 more like the great great grandfather

  • how do i play the virtual boy

  • Comment removed

  • I really do also believe they should bring back the older games and the cancelled ones as remakes, I would love to play Mario clash, and others like Zelda64

  • this is a very underrated system in my opinion. i wish nintendo supported it more when it was out in the market.

  • Outstanding review! :D

  • i just bought a virtual boy it works like new just came in the mail today i don't see why everybody doesn't like it i love it

  • @RetroAxis83 wait till you see the games

  • I remember i wanted one soooooooooooooooooooooooo bad but it was gone b4 my parents would have got it for me:(

  • VB Games I hope are released on 3DS Virtual Console:

    Mario Tennis

    Mario Clash

    Teleroboxer

    3D Tetris

    Wario Land

    Galactic Pinball

  • PS: I think Wario Cruise was renamed as Wario Land and then released.

  • Ah the Good ol' VB. I really like this system which is harshly underrated. I'm gonna do a review of it soon. Great video! Liked and favourited. :)

  • i saw 1 selling for $80 and all the way up to $500 or something

  • I kind of feel sorry for Nintendo for putting this out. They were stuck with something they knew wasn't going to be successful or even going to lead into the next generation. Resources wasted.

  • LOve this channel more and more....Great reviews and seeing some of these classic systems and games, takes me back to my childhood..what a great time.

Looking forward to seeing all the videos on your channel.

  • i mite be geting one soon and i think its realy cool and i think the games are cool

  • they renamed wario cruse wario land

  • I GOT MINE TODAY IN THE RENTAL CASE!!!! YAY!!!!

  • I saw one of these on T.V. once! I think I was waching Pawn Stars!

  • very nice break down of the system completely. and quite nostalgic. :)

  • john how old are u ???

  • I got my VB for like $20-$25 and the games were dirt cheap as well, since it was all on clearance.

I liked it a lot, a few of the games were awesome.

I wish Nintendo would revisit this idea with today's newer technology and adevice you could actually wear.

  • @frigginjoe Very nice, I really want one for my collection, and for Virtual Boy: Wario Land. Can't find one anyway though, and I don't want to resort to Ebay. lol

  • I wish i was Gamester81.

  • Hell yeah, I'd like to see almost all VB games on the 3DS.

  • how much memory do u think those game paks had?

  • Awesome video! Very informative, never knew there were 22 games. Looks like the AVGN needs to get his facts straight. :P

  • @ultramegachicken5 if i remember correctly, he said that those were the only virtual boy games he owned, and the others were too rare and expensive for him

  • @sneakybeard

He updated the video and said that he had finished the entire library of games after someone sent in Jack Bros., and he never actually mentioned Tetris (2-D).

  • @ultramegachicken5 Tetris 2D was actually released in Japan, called V-Tetris and most games that AVGN reviewed are only available in North America. Jack Bros English version is very rare, so what AVGN reviewed in his DVD version is Japanese version..

  • @AzfarGamers90

I know, I was just saying that he still didn't technically review every game out there. I know he knows his stuff and all. Just saying a knitpicky type joke. No harm meant to be done.

  • I feel like Mario looks like he's in hell.

  • If Nintendo wasn't that lazy in the end of SNES-beginning of N64 era they would have been much more successful.

  • I love this latest logo update.

I think you should update the NEStalgiaholic logo, highlighting the "NES" portion in some manner: perhaps a different color on those three letters.

  • Gamester should use a little cyber clean on the middle of that controller. Dusty!

  • Wario cruise was released, it was just renamed.

  • It's worth buying for red alarm and jack bros, and of course warioland

  • i seen a virtual boy with 1 controller and mario tenesis i bought a N64 though

  • I'd just ducktape that thing to my head, like the avgn did.

  • you need to pick up jacks bros

  • How big are your fingers? They look huge!

  • Virtual Boy was a weird idea, but I think it's a pretty cool system. It's totally a niche item, but the games really aren't bad and the 3D works really well -- the depth perception works the exact same as with the 3DS. I've never gotten eye strain from it, but it is difficult to prevent neck cramps.

  • looks like its red vector graphic cool

  • Hey gamester.. can you do a review for the Tiger R-Zone?

  • I think that while this system is one of the most unique it is also one of the most over hyped systems. I am not a hard core collector, so I have no desire to ever own this system.

    Great video though :)

  • I think Red Alarm had a lot of potential that wasn't fully realized and if Nintendo would tweak it just a bit to keep the same game overall, but make it more playable, that would be pretty cool.

  • John, will you be picking up a 3ds if you haven't already?

  • @abehammy He reviewed it. :)

  • @GuildOfWhores Yeah, I know. I wrote the comment right before he posted his review

  • Awesome review John! I always learn a ton of facts about different systems in all of your reviews.

  • I think that all the games released for Virtual Boy should be re-released on nintrendo eshop

  • @jowrab : that's sad. ;[

  • I bought the virtual boy when they were on clearance for $50. I got about 5 games from a friend who previously owned the system. My favorites were Nesters Funky Bowling and Wario Land. I ended up returning it to the store where I bought it because I didn't find it to be all that great. Other games I had were Tennis, Red Alarm and the others may have been golf and teleroboxer but I'm not exactly sure. No idea were the other games went now but I still have wario land.

  • man i got a n4dd at my good will for 3 dolars. i gotta find some games now so i can play it

  • my brother snagged one of these for just $20 soon after it was discontinued. I always thought it was pretty interesting and that potential was there but the red and black only was just a massive mistake. It being red is actually what made me get a Sega Nomad instead.

  • i just picked up one of these at goodwill for 30 bucks, it pretty much blew my mind to find it there, but one side doesnt work so im waiting for a gamebit in the mail

  • "Released only in the north american market" All the while he points straight at the "JPN". Whoops?

  • @MarcoZ1ITA1 you must've not been listening, either that or you have a hearing problem. He said 3D tetris was only released to the north american market and that V-Tetris is a completely different game!

  • @SMAAAASHTV Then i must have gotten it wrong. Don't worry, i wasn't insulting him :P.

  • I enjoyed the virtual boy, most of the games for it are actually good. Also, Wario's Cruise is actually what became VB Wario Land

  • I personally liked the Virtual Boy... but it is funny that Nintendo is retrying some old ideas with new technology

I would love to see 3-D Tetris and Wario Land remade with a full set of colors in the 3DS

  • Just picked one up today...

  • lol high resolution graphics

  • Nintendo will never release virtual boy games for the 3DS. In terms of companies who have failed products and flops as big as the virtual boy, Nintendo probably wants to stray peoples memories as far away from that as possible.

  • Yeah I hated this system, but Gamester always has fair reviews and are entertaining and informative.

  • The Virtual Boy...that was awful. It originally sold for something like $150.00 bucks in 1995 and by summer 1996 I got mine for $30.00 at a Meijer. It did have some ok games for it (Wario Land and Telero Boxer) but the red and black graphics killed any enjoyment I could get out of it. I couldn't play it for no more than 15 or 20 minutes before my eyes hurt and started to get a headache from it. What's amazing is this thing actually goes for a pretty penny in 2nd hand stores.

  • Good review but this system in my mind is a very bad and fail system! LOL

  • How long has it been since Nintendo started this idea. I mean I've seen the Famicom having a sot of 3d accessory and to think they've kept the idea for so long but hey Nintendo is determined like Miyamoto since he's always having ideas that don't come to life until his later projects like the multiplayer in SMBWii

  • I remember these things. I tried it out in Toys R Us and it gave me a headache everytime. That definetly convinced me it wasn't worth $150.

  • Nice review John. It's always a pleasure to watch your videos!

  • 3DS released in Europe today good job

  • It sounds so brittle when you're handling it.

  • The 3ds is next. The thing works really good but after 5 mins my eyes started to hurt. My co workers haqd the same issue. I think its cuz 3d shouldnt be on a small screen.

  • YEAH! I've waited for this review!

Your reviews are the best! It's very easy and interesting to watch your videos, and it's easy to understand what are you saying, i'm from russia and i'm not so strong in English (by the way, please excuse for my mistakes). I wish i had a virtual boy, and i'm going to buy it. anyway, nice video as always, keep good working! can't wait for next reviews!

  • Nice T-Shirt, there's a seriously sexy guy on there called 28steryan.

  • nice shirt

  • @strictlysega I agree lol

  • I love that tee shirt there mister! looks great on you :)

  • I am loving the intro logo!!

  • My favorite game that I played for the Virtual Boy, was Red Alarm, such a fun polygonal space space shooter, really enjoyed playing it at the demo units in store

  • you can take a camera and point it into one of the screens, then use the av cables and play without recording.

  • I had one in 1997 or 1998, and just recently got another one. Mine doesn't have a stand or the eyepiece. I love playing Mario's Tennis. The other game I own is Red Alarm and I don't really like it that much.

  • I have the virtual boy, it's pretty good actually

  • It should of been named the Terminator boy. XD

  • "There's no strap..."

Someone needs to pay a visit to Keith Apicary and see what's up.

  • LMAO! The AVGN also did a review on this system. Overall, great video.

  • Who could play this for hours? It's like birght red laser pointing in your eyes!

  • You're doing great with your reviews :]

Plus, this review is highly interesting for people like me, cuz' I'm from Europe and as you might know... the VirtualBoy never got released here.

It's just too bad that so many nice things never got any more spotlight than they actually did back then.

Just remembering the GC-GBA connectivity which used to be my favorite function of the two mentioned systems.

But oh well... that's another story.

  • I remember buying one of these fro Toy R Us for 20$ & I used to lay back playing it myself. I loved Mario Tennis & Wario Land for it. The Games were very cheap back then too. Great Vid!

  • 4 people are still sore because they regret going to the virtual boy's launch..

  • Very informative review, thanks.

  • I played one briefly in a store, I thought it was ok, maybe someday I'll buy one, whatevz.

  • nice video remember this system well

  • To think the 64DD sold worst than this thing.....

  • @THEsquirrel3d This is true. In my opinion the N64DD failed because Nintendo didn't support it, while the VB failed because it as awkward to play and was in mono-color.

  • @Gamester81 When I first saw the 64DD, I always thought "why didn't they just make the nintendo 64 like that", as in accept DD disks instead of cartridges?

  • @Gamester81 I don't even think the 64dd was even released and attachments never work.

  • @codymorton1 He has a 64dd.

  • A 3D famicom before this? I'll have to scope that out. This indeed was a unique idea although wether it was good or bad is anyone's take. I don't think any extra time for this system would have helped. Still, I guess you could say Nintendo took a few good lessons from it.

Some VB games for the 3DS would be neat to see, as it would give those games (and maybe even the cancelled ones?) a new lease on life; especially for the new generations!

    Great video and much love.

  • ive been looking for a gamster 81 vertual boy review for a long time

  • @thefatfrier Nice. I've been waiting for the 3DS to get close to release to do this review. I hope it was worth the wait. =) Thanks for watching.

  • @Gamester81 no problem. i love the reviews. keep up the good work.

  • I guess concerning the Virtual Boy, I haven't had any first hand experience playing it. It would be a system I may eventually like to have, but I can't really see myself buying a lot of games for it. I think for the most part a lot of them would be unappealing to me.

  • You mentioned that there's a way to fix the glitching. Could you give me a link to that?

  • I think the saddest thing about the unit is that it had so much potential and some really cool games never saw the light of day. Have you seen the youtube video of the mario platforming game that was shown at WCES in '95? Rumors called the game Mario Land VB. Wario is one of my favorite VB games, but this would have been epic.

Excellent job capturing gameplay footage for the review! Keep up the good work man. Also happy birthday!!!

  • it wasn't one of, it WAS Nintendo's biggest failure.

  • @ultimatebman Yeah good point but the N64DD sold much worse and wasn't successful either.

  • @Gamester81 but it had so much potential :C

  • @Gamester81 true, but that wasn't formally released anywhere other than japan, unlike the virtual boy

  • I thought that wario cruise was renamed and released as wario land. hmm

  • Space Harrier for the e-shop would be cool.

  • I think the old style Star Wars Atari game would of been cool to play on here.

  • I never knew what nintendo was thinking with this system. I only played it once when I was like 14 or so at Zellers, but how could nintendo expect to make any money off of this thing. But that said, it makes a really neat collectors system and if I could get my hands on a working one that was cheap I would grab it for sure!

  • great video,I have to say it was the best virtual boy review I've seen on youtube.

  • @alak58 Wow thanks for the compliment. =)

  • @Gamester81 it's probably because you didn't just trash on it the whole time. You're videos are usually nice because you look to the positive side of things and tend to be factual when it is a negative thing.

  • Happy Birthday John!

  • I love the thing, even despite the headaches it always gives me.

The only thing about it that bothers me is the flimsy stand and top heavy shape of the whole thing. I'm waiting for the day one of my cats knocks it over and trashes the delicate mirror system.

I think it'd be great if they put VB games on 3DS. Mt personal fave is Red Alarm, but that probably wouldn't look too clever on 3DS.

Great video John, and Happy Brithday :D

  • I love this system. I find the red graphics awesome, and I don't actually get eye strain. my favourite game is definitely Wario Land

  • wow great intro

  • i remember when i was little warioland was so badass unfortunately it was my uncles so i didnt get to play that much but i loved everything about virtual boy only thing i dont like is that it was such a commercial failure and not many games were made for it. and how hard it is to come by a system in good shape

  • I love your calm low key reviews of systems. The way you talk about the systems in a conversational, no non-sense style is refreshing.

  • You know I didn't even know the Nintendo produced the Virtual Boy.. I guess I learn something new everyday.

  • hey are u selling any n64 games or memory cards... ill buy one

  • jack bros is the best virtual boy game, this system was to advance and not advanced, because of the monochrome red and red alarm is impossible. if they had a first person life simulator it would be cool

  • I remember when the Virtual Boy was released and I tried it out on a display in Target. While Mario Tennis was fun to play I couldn't stand the orientation of playing the device as well as the red/black display. I was never really interested in the device at all and was never really surprised once I saw it disappear from stores.

  • John you'll be my god if you take that coupon to a store, try to use it and film yourself doing so!

  • it would be really nice if you would show a few more games like this, never seen them in action before

  • @SpiritMoonrise

More thumbs up to this please, youtube needs more virtuaboy gameplay footage.

  • Warioland is my fave.

  • hey you didn't shave!

  • Happy Birthday Gamester81 and the story of the Nintendo 3D technology starts with the Famicom add-on but it was uncommon and expensive then Virtual Boy which sucked red and black ass, they tried Gameboy Advance but the screen resolution is too low, Gamecube tried that but decided not to because it's expensive. After extensive research for no glasses 3D, they found a suitable system to utilize that and it's the DS err 3DS.

  • Have a great nostaglia burtday Gamester81

  • the virtual boy, aka teh headache machine

  • Guy you're awesome. Thanks for the vid's and happy birthday.

  • As a kid I was scared to purchase. Rumors were that u would go blind but they were wrong

  • Love the new intro scene. Really professional John. And Happy Birthday!

  • telroboxer, warioland, and mario clash all should be converted and released on the 3ds. all great games, and the reason to own a Virtual Boy.

  • I watched Satoru Iwata's GDC keynote today it was mentioned there that there will be "3D Classics" available for the 3DS. I was like "Whaaaaat?! Do they mean Virtual Boy?" but unfortunately they're 3D remakes of 2D games. :/ It would be really cool to have retro-ish Mario games on 3DS.

Have you seen Keith Apicary's Virtual Boy music video?

  • TELEROBOXER ON 3DS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • how ironic that it took 6 AA batteries and there's a coupon for 1.00 off batteries =D
