  • Lovin' these videos, dude! I like how you talk not only about WHAT to carry, but the philosophy and ideas behind WHY.

  • @pacificcloud

He talks of steel bottles -V- plastic

You can't boil your water in a plastic bottle

And if you live up where you may freeze your water you may want to look in to the Arctic Canteen

  • Les always carries a multi tool, like a gerber one. I wonder if one had to make a choice between a big knife....a Multitool....a Swiss army knife which is optimal and why?

  • dave please answer this question...how tall are you ?

  • A 72 hour scenario? What's next FEMA camps..?

  • Hi guys, I was wondering why it has to be TARRED bankline? I was sending Dave a message, but didn't get a message so far - so I hope somebody here knows! Thanks and take care

  • @pumile0812 It is impervious to water, won't rot or weaken nearly as fast when wet. But both are pretty good to have, if I remember what Dave said correctly. It's been quite a while! Get the heavy stuff it's stranded and can be broken down into the separate strands the same as paracord or doubled for strength.

  • Great videos ,Dual Survival great too.

  • I did a mini pouch and I know it does not compare to a large carry by any means I hope you take it as a compliment that I went by your guidelines you are one of the guys I look to for knowledge and learning but I created a small pouch just for going out scouting with your 10 c's in mind. I will add it as a video response

  • this vid was awesome but what i dont get is that if your transport eg. ship/plane goes down or sinks, you wont have that stuff so :/

  • @randomgamerz360 ...Well I don't know what to tell you about the plane scenario, but I do know for a fact that if you happen to be on an Italian cruise ship, you won't need any of this shit as long as you stay close to the captain and are able to haul ass and jump in a life boat along with him....OHHHHHH, HEY TONY, FUGGEDDABOUTIT!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome video Dave , wish you and your family a happy weekend:)

  • good vid.

My plastic bottles flex enough to freeze full and not leak after they thaw, my metal bottles always blow the bottom out or crack if they freeze full, just saying.

  • Excellent video. Concise and informative. I'm planning on coming up to the pathfinder school sooner or later and have no doubt with instructors like you it will be well worthit.

  • Don't forget Courage!

  • is there any particular brand/type of knife you prefer for survival situations? I need to get a new knife for camping/hunting and i was wondering if you had any recommendations. Cheers.

  • Always super videos man! Gonna be testing out my b.o.b. this winter up here in the Great White North, come for a visit if you want, hehe, but bring a nice warm touque. Keep up the great work!

  • That guyot water bottle looks like the "Standard" 38oz. I don't think that's the 32 oz.

  • This guy is the real deal - student of the wilderness, teacher to the people.

  • MAN THIS IS THE FIRST VIDEO THAT IVE SEEN ON YOUTUBE WITH ALL THESE VIEWS AND NOT 1 DISLIKE NOW THATS WHAT IM TLKING BOUT IT LOOKS LIKE YOU SHAKE THE TROLLS UP

  • Excellent video. KEEP ON PREPPING

  • nice to see you haven't forgotten us here on YouTube.

  • I thought this guy look familiar , I gotta rethink my kit

  • Dave, thanks fore the videos. Great info. I think a lot of people could benefit from the 5 Cs of Survivability. It is a simple approach. It is easy to over complicate it.

    Thanks!

  • Dave

Great videos. I'm in the great wilderness of the NYC area. However, we get out into the country as often as we can. Your videos are great learning tools that serve as a guide for performing possible activities safely. Thanks!

  • Kudos Dave sticking to your philosophy and passing along the tribal knowledge, to millions now!

  • Containers are used to contain

  • Do you like Cody Lundin? I mean sometimes you guys seem like the best of friends and other times I think you are going to murder him...

Also do you ever travel and teach or are you a stationary instructor?

  • lol I haven't watched this in a month, lol i'm going to try and recall the 5 C's as a test. Cutting tool, container (tins are best so you can boil water. if you need), covering fabric, a flint thingy, oh yeah, combustion tool, lol cant remember the other one... lets see how I did; lol Metal is the best containment, and I forgot Cords, not too bad I think I'm going to do it next month maby

  • Love the videos, love the tips and advice. I know I'm just an everyday fan, but you talk just alittle to fast. Maybe slow it down just alittle bit?

  • I remember back when you made the first of these videos and how this in essence your trade secret so I know how much this means to you. THANK YOU for sharing these, really well presented!

  • Awesome video, love the simplicity factor "K.I.S.S"

  • Awesome stuff...still glad to see you doing this even though now your a

tv star and super big shot!!! Say hi to Cody you guys are great!!!

  • Wool, if it didn't retain its insulating value sheep would be screwed.

  • Dear Dave, im sorry for my bad english but thats becouse im from Finland. I love all the information you have given me. I have admired your work for long time now. I have lived in a ranch for my hole life and i started scouting these woods when i was a toddler. I know these woods better then my home and i hunt a lot with my dad. I hunt small game but a month ago my dad came back from afghanistan and we got me bear traps as a present for my 17 birtday. Keep up the good work. Good hunting.

  • i'm surprised discovery lets him make videos still i thought they would've stopped that a while ago

  • hey dave where can you get the combustion rods? pls respond.

  • Hey Dave, what's the best all around survival knive bigger than a standard Mora?

    Love your videos

    Thanks

  • I wish Dual survival would have a few episodes on you just using these items in a survival situation. That would be awesome.

Or maybe you could do a survival scenario trip with just this stuff in? Anyway, great stuff Dave, really appreciate you not letting the fame go to your head and continuing to make vids for your subscribers!

    Take care.

  • Hello Dave

I used this blanket to sleep as a child,

is it really that good for survival?!

Thanks for the hundreds of useful video,

    cheers from Italy

    Max

  • 5:11 :)

  • dual survival rocks!

  • Dave, great vids. One question. What is the brand and type of overshirt you wear in most of the dual survival shows? Recently saw it in the Hippo Island show. The khaki colored shirt?

  • @Deriust Rail Riders Expedition SHirt

  • @wildernessoutfitters Many thanks Dave. Just ordered one. Going to try it out (along with some other gear) on my first overnight out in about 10 years. Headed for Smokey Mountain area. Keep up the great work.

  • Gander2000- Why bring a tent when you can make a shelter from the blanket?

  • Hey just wondering, why no tents? Seems you all carry tools for making shelters, why not carry a shelter? Thanks keep up the Great Work...dave

  • Dave, I thought the straight sided guyot bottles are 36 oz & the angled backpacker is 32 oz?

  • Love your blanket Dave! The Vids keep getting better all the time please keep posting!!!!

  • Dave if you don't mind me asking is that a Casio Pathfinder PAG240 watch?

  • thanks for all you do man!

  • Thank you Dave. You have no idea how much I appreciate you, your television series and your generous YouTube instruction.

A question about a wool blanket: What's the lowest temperature you would feel comfortable using one in? Thanks.

  • Your advice in this video is excellent. Thanks, Dave!

  • Comment removed

  • I have that same blanket and love it, in fact over memorial day weekend i took it up to the Adirondacks with me and found out exactly how flame resistant it was when my friend over did it with fire lol

  • Mr. Canterbury I'm watching your videos for over a year now and you have a uniqe style to teach survival skills. You deserve your own tv show! Thank you for your spirit to go out and do all that stuff and try it out with honest reports if things don't work out or are a good success. I hope you'll go on just like this!

  • Worth it just for the tip on having a military wool blanket alone!

  • Can you do a video on how to field sharpen a knife (both scandi and convex).

    Thanks for all the videos.

  • I first started following you on youtube and discovery channel you are the best instructor I have run across as a Vet I have had many Army Instructors you are among those elite. You will be credited with saving many lives, if they follow your instructions!

    Rev Lonnie

  • ....thanks....a nice 5C reminder

  • Wow, that was like 50 pages of information from a typical survival book condensed into a 5 minute video. Excellent presentation and content!

  • The best teacher out there. You are awesome brother.

  • srry to hate but u need a new intro i hate that music!

  • ****Hey Dave, if Discovery wants you to start making additional videos for them, tell them to buy you a "pop stoper", or buy you a camera that will block out the wind. LOL Just saying brother =D****

  • what are the other 5 cs?

  • VERY GOOD video.

  • Are you going to do more survival is that would be great

    Thumbs up if you agree

  • why not paracord?

  • @caleb4utube bank line is less bulky and still breaks down into 3 smaller lines...you could always stuff 30ft of paracord down the bank line tube inner,,weighs grams but increases your capability...

  • @caleb4utube Bank line is thinner and easier to do stuff with than paracord just take both its better also bankline you can carry more than paracord :/

  • dave man,in your book do you have plants that can be useful for medication,to eat and what plants that are dangerous, when i use to go moral hunting in sw wisconsin i use to eat honeysuckles,i always brought canteen filled with spring water, granola bars, hiking stick.

  • Great primer material for folks who are new to wilderness survival. I'm certain many people never considered such things until they came across shows like Dual Survival, Survivorman, etc.

  • Dave, I know your not going to upload old vids but do you think you could remake them? P.S. I'v been fan for a long time and think your vids are some of the best out there!

  • Your the man Dave.Love your video's keep them coming!

  • what sort of bandanna do you wear on dual survival. it looks stretchy

  • Dave...I know that discovery will probably offer you a series by yourself after dual survival...but no matter how famous you get, please still post videos for us,for people like me it gives me something to look foward to.

  • @MrJmunn well cody and dave are so different in many ways that it makes it interesting for them to show what it takes to survive so i dont think that would happen.

  • Outstanding Dave, thanks for sharing..

  • Great info you've got on this vid, but so far I've only got just one which is a good knife I've got plenty of those, but I can't even seem to find anywhere that has an Italian army wool blanket.

  • Outstanding, short and to the point, period! Thumbs up!~~John

  • Good to see you back, Dave. Are you between shows?

  • Thank you for your effort!

  • I'm really glad that you started this video's again. I really enjoyed all the old videos but then discovery made you stop and I was a bit pissed. Thanks for all the good info.

  • Keeping It simple Dave. Good info.

  • great video

  • You say the bank line in the video is 165lbs, but on your site there are only two types - 340lbs and 106lbs. Also, you say in the video it has 3 fibers but that is nowhere mentioned on your site. Can you please clarify because I want to buy it. Good job on the video, btw.

  • @Kejatz walmart has got it bro...165lb for about $3

  • ALL your videos are excellent!

    Please keep them coming!

  • Nice quick and concise run down,

  • Sweet Schmoo

  • Great items and cool with the blanket! Thanks for sharing. Happy Weekend, Sepp

  • Dave is the man! Knowledgeable and SUPER caring! He's been GIVING on YouTube for years. We are thankful for him.

  • I still can't get over how awesome it is that you're a tv star and still make your own videos for your youtube audience.. you're one-of-a-kind for sure

  • @CapumOfOuttaSpace He is the man. He is truly dedicated to teaching and imparting the knowledge of our forefathers that has almost been lost. To me, he embodies the American spirit.

  • dave where did you get the wool blanket? and do you go to the store or order your items online?

  • I wish i could start a fire with my piss lol

  • Nice Italian Blanket from Mitch :)

  • @JohnBBushcraft Actually this blanket is about 3 years old from a surplus outlet in Texas, but Mitch is now carrying them.

  • @wildernessoutfitters I've been searching online for a military surplus Italian blanket, especially one like you show in this video that is so large (66" x 90"). Unfortunately, a lot of on-line suppliers seem to be out of stock right now. Any suggestions?

  • @wildernessoutfitters Very cool!

  • @JohnBBushcraft Mitch? please point me to his store/channel. thanks

  • @JohnBBushcraft Mitch? please point me to his store/channel. thanks

  • Awesome!

Very cool..now if only everyone would carry those items.

  • Great video

  • Agree with you a thousand percent Dave and I've used the 5 C's as the foundation for all my kits. I also have the same Guyout Design bottle and if I'm not mistaken it's a 38oz not a 32oz. bottle. I prefer this one over the 32oz one because I can nest it in a cup very easily.

  • yah i need to find a good wool blanket-

i really wish we had the army surplus stores like we used to- most of them are just regular stores and not army surplus and you have to get all the practical stuff online unless you live near a military base that has a good army navy store

  • Thanks for your time on the vid Dave.. Good times

  • Short, simple, and absolutely accurate. I think more than anything that's what people like about Dave, more beef less bun :)

  • Thanks Dave... that was good. Simple, easy and effective. Good Job.

  • love it man love the show your making survival into all most a fad for those not survival orientated very well could save a lot of lives just off that factor alone keep up the great work!!!

  • Nice to see you making videos again. Pass on the tribal knowledge bro.

  • welcome back Dave great video

  • Man!! just had to buy a wool blanket after watching your review. thanks for the informative reviews of the 5'c.I would take a bigger blade with me like a Kukri or Chris Cain Survial tool, small blade is harder work in the bush. However love the new series of DS and keep doing what you love doing bro....

  • ahh wind filter where are you :P

    great video otherwise !

  • dang you was on

    gooodstuff

    i agree

  • nice video

  • how much stuff do you fake in dual survival

  • ive been following you for years on youtube dave i value yr advice and opinion yr a solid dude

  • Did u get the all leather ones or the ones with canvas ? Do they have insulation ?

  • @VietNormbo Leather and canvas 200 grm

  • Dave how u liking the danner pronghorn boots are they worth buying or what ? l

Looking for a good bulletproof pair brother

  • @VietNormbo Def worth every penny

  • @wildernessoutfitters Did you noticed, that when you talk to us (long time subscriber prior discovery) you talk slower, you're calm and it feels like you speaking with your friends. And when talk to facebook you are the tough guy from that tv show. Or just I feel that way?

Anyway love the show big time, but in the same time I miss your daily videos from your personal place.

    Take care Bro!

    -hunter

  • great videos, keep it up!!!

  • How long should water be boiled?

  • @MrSeriyokuzenyo

One or two minutes into a rolling boil.

  • been subbed to you on past accounts since you were making arrow heads from bottle bottoms. since then it hasent stopped getting better.

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks Dave, for this and all your information in this and other videos. We appreciate your commitment

  • I've been looking for a good metal water storage container with a big lid like you use. I can't seem to find one like it. They all have a small opening on them at academy sports and places like that. Hopefully I'll find one soon. Take care buddy.

  • @JamesD2023 go to the link below my video brother

  • @wildernessoutfitters Thank you man. Guess I'm gonna have to order one. Take care.

  • Great presentation and without notes to boot.

  • I have a friend that always says he doesn't approve of shows like Dual Survival because it makes people afraid to go out and do stuff in the wilderness. I, however, find I learn something new all the time. I frequently go out for long distance hiking trips, so I like hearing your ideas of the basics and they make me a little less afraid (I will admit to getting scared when I am running low on food or water). You don't need a panic button device, though! Thanks for all the hard work.

  • @kristen7054 Knowledge and preparedness removes fear. :)

  • @JonTheGoose I still nearly s**t my pants when a thunderstorm sneaks over the mountains and I'm on a ridge. lol

  • What exactly is bank line and where can I get some?

  • @jtroy624 i believe wal mart carries bank line or a similar courdage for catfish.

  • @jtroy624 Tarred mariners line is used for netting or trout lines, it can be bought many places or at thepathfinderschoollc link above

  • One of the best videos I've seen on the basics, you must have had to say all that quickly in under 5 minutes for the Discovery Channel. I always love time honored wool blanket.

  • @wildernessoutfitters if needed to have a smaller line couldn't you use 1 of the 7 strands from the para-cord?? each strand is 35lb. test and the sheath is 300lb. test. i understand that its really all personal preference, i was mainly just throwing it out there and making sure my thought process wasn't to off track.

  • @hammerdownNY Bank Line is much more versatile and less stretch than PC

  • Dave, as usual, another outstanding vid. Looking forward to the second part. Thank you again for sharing with all of us. Your travel kit and 10 piece emergency kit vids are such a valuable reference too.

  • Really good stuff Dave...these tips would be nice to see at the end of every show..thanks bud!

  • I'll have to track down some of that bank line.

  • Awesome!

  • Can you try to get cody in one of your videos fot some hippy survival

  • Do I have to buy a certain kind of Strikeforce that comes with the gel or do they all come with the gel?

  • @SurvivalistWannabe The Strike force comes new with 1 wet fire you can also buy replacments at our web site listed above

  • Ima watch you on TV tomorrow night!!!!!

  • Excellent!

  • dave......well done....jimbo

  • Can't wait for the 2nd part

  • very good info thanks for all you do

  • hey dave could you do a review on the habilis bush tool that you carry thanks

  • @nick617617 I will get that done when I return from South Africa

  • I love your videos Dave, your an extremely interesting and entertaining person to sit and watch and learn from. I could listen to you talk for hours. You have a way of explaining things in a way for me that is so easy to understand. Please keep the videos coming brother. I wish you & your family the best.

  • This is some good stuff. The one that really hit home with me was the combustion device. I always have a flint and steel with me, but I can attest that it would take a significant amount more work than that would. I don't mind, I just do it for fun anyways but I may need to look in to getting one of those.

  • I love this...Thank you!

  • Back to basic's love it

Built your new traps in a wilderness area of my garden (Watch this space) Blessings Michael S

  • yo dude keep the vid's coming. Finding them brill over here in the UK and can't wait to start your course over here

  • Very cool Dave! Is that the new Pathfinder Scout knife or does it just have wooden scales?

  • why not paracord

  • @Ginzo117 Bank Line is much more versitile with less stretch.

  • @wildernessoutfitters Bank Line could be used as fishing line

  • @19tnrebel Fishing Line, Trap Line, Sutures, Repair, Lashings, Etc......

  • @huguenot67 lmao!!!!

@wildernessoutfitters good job dave cant wait for part 2
