  • Peggy, Thanks for the quick and really easy lessons! Ive been to Taiwan three times before with my wife to visit the family, but never got much beyond, "Ni hao ma?" or Wo xi huan pijiu, and the ever popular, xie xie. This year I decided to do something about it and found your lessons. Everbody thought it was so neat to see a Yank that actually knows a little Mandarin. And what I didnt know, I got lots of help with : ) Taipei rocks!

    Tom

  • After this fab video, I'll be back to learn some basics. I have a friend in ShenZhen from when I was an English moderator on Alibaba. I English-named his daughter "Orly". You can also see a video I made for an originally mostly Chinese audience, youTube "professor carl vowels"... I have an MA in linguistics, and through that prism I see your lessons as as good as they get.

  • The hand movements to illustrate the tones are very helpful. I also notice that you do them from right to left so that the viewer will see them moving from left to right. 很聪明.

  • 我有很多爱好。我喜欢游泳,看电影,看电视,长卡拉ok,也跳舞。我也喜欢睡觉!

  • good , i am a chinese ,welcome to chat with me in chinese

  • Chinese is the easiest language in the world!

  • @lukethewall i think its the hardest even China letters are sooo hard >.<

  • @lukethewall joking...?

  • @infotechsailor What's the most difficult language to learn in the world?

  • @PeggyTeachesChinese for me right now... learning to read mandarin. I wish all written chinese switched to pinyin ! but at the same time i think written chinese is a beautiful ancient language so in a way I'm glad its still in use... I just don't like it right now .

  • @lukethewall I'm inclined to say it's English but I'm strangely biased..! :-P

  • so can i say i like traveling and sleeping : wo xi3 huan1 lu3 you2 he2 shui4 jaio4?

  • @CherryTom09 that's correct. Wo ye xihuan luyou he shuijiao :)

  • @hakusho04

the tone of a Chinese character(聲調)

  • Muchas gracias por el aporte que estas haciendo para quienes estamos aprendiendo tu idioma :)

  • Hey, great lessons. I was wondering if this is Mandarin Chinese, since what you teach is a little different sometimes from what I get on Rosetta stone. For example, is there a difference between 'zi xing che' and 'jiao ta che' for bike?

wo xi huan ping chang zuo huà.

  • @ralphzoontjens

Basically, zi xing che (自行车) and jiao ta che (脚踏车) are same. In Malaysia, jiao ta che is the most common word for bike eve though we are taught to say zi xing che in school.

  • @TormentedCurse Ni hao, thank you for sharing your response! :) In Taiwan, 腳踏車 jiao3ta4che1 is more common than 自行車 zi4xing2che1 too!

  • Your lessons are fabulous :-)) There´s no choice but learn chinese then. Xie Xie

  • @todebejar Thank you. How nice of you to say that! ;) I hope my lessons help you with your Mandarin.

  • peggy ! love your lessons !! izan from malaysia

  • @shahr12an Thank you for watching~~~ "Ni hao!" from Taiwan! ;)

  • I like to sleep

    lol

  • @DrMMHMD how do you type like that

  • Great videos, thanks! Is there any way for you to actually write the tones over the words rather than numbers?

  • hen hao, xiexie!

  • you are the prettiest chinise girl I have ever seen!!

  • wo pingchang xi huan yue4du2 can dian!

  • Hi Peggy I'm Pier again! I thanks for internet cause now, in Brazil is it possible learn mandarin in an easy way!

  • 我也平常喜欢旅游

  • @c1c2vb3 should that be 我平常也喜欢旅游?

  • @ivyscar yes.

  • Cool!!!!

  • I was taught differently.

    ni3 shuo1 shen3 me5 .

    wo3 de zhong1 guo2 ren2 shuo1 peng2 you3 shen2 me5.

    Is this Taiwanese dialect?

  • @StriderChipp It is "shen2me" in standard Mandarin but in spoken Mandarin in Taiwan, people tend to pronounce "shen3me5" instead "shen2me5". It's the regional difference in Mandarin language, not a dialect though. :)

  • good

  • 你是台湾人吗?

  • @MrZaicon 當然囉! 不像嗎?

  • @PeggyTeachesChinese

    我是德国人。。。认识很多的台湾人 :P 但是我现在主在中国。我听见了你是台湾人啊!!

  • peggy you were really rockin to that music! =)

  • u are so cheerful ! haha

anyway keep up the good work and hope you don't mind the many comments ^^

  • Haha, I read Metamorphasis in school last week! :D

thank you so much! you are a great teacher :)

  • xie xie peggy!!! wo xi huan lu you. ni xi huan kan dianshi?

  • Does it help to think of the characters as bar codes?

  • What are the numbers for? Do they correspond to international computer keyboard commands for accent marks?

  • @stopglobalswarming They represent the tones which she is also representing with her hand motions. She has a video that explains it.

  • This girl is freaggin Gorgeous

  • uh...it is "shi", not "si".

I know many Taiwanese and Singaporean pronounce "shi" as "si". However, the right promunciation should be "shi" by curling your tongue.

  • @maiermiao Yep! :)

  • @maiermiao Cantonese also do this.

  • wo qi chuang qi dian wu fen. wo xihuan shui jiao. ???

  • @larry691980 Thank you so much! I feel so flattered to receive a compliment from a professionally trained teacher. I am now in my junior year in a university in Taiwan. :)
