I'm not that interested in eyefinity cause i'm not that much into games, however i browse a lot of pics and want to have a dual monitor set up, one 24 and one 26 inch both 1920x1200 resolution and one of that i want to keep in portrait mode permanently. Is it possible to configure such a set up with just one 5850 or 5970 or do i need to different pc's altogether ?
ahaha..at the end i picked sapphire hd5770 vapor x since knowing that 5850 is a bit too big for my casing..and considering the risk of psu related problems..
Wait, you kept mentioning 3 screens. this may sound super stupid, but I could of course just use one screen with it, couldn't I? It's costing me nearly a grand to build my computer, and that's with just one screen, I don't wanna have to buy three ¬¬"
one thing i dont understand...why does a same graphics card is manufactured (i dont kno what you call it) by 3 different companies??? i mean XFX, SAPPHIRE 'and last but by no means least' GIGABYTE...??? can anyone wise enough explain me...thankxx
@bhooowan3 because ATI release a model thats called a reference card which companies like XFX, sapphire can just copy and sell with their badge on it.. or companies can make their non reference ones with dual cooler and stuff or oced clock speed out of the box...
Gah! I hate how every benchmark has it in colors! I'm COLORBLIND!!! so hard to tell the differences on some of them... No offense to the creator, but this vid sucks... In general...
Could you please make an updated review of this XFX Radeon 5850. Where you compare the different 5850s and show us some benchmarks from Crysis, Farcry 2, BFBC2 and Dirt 2. That would at least help me out. Thank you!
Hey could you give me any tips in which upgrades I should do to my pc to raise perfomance to a decent level (like max out a game like halo 2 pc). Here are my specs Maximum Memory Capacity: 8192MB Currently Installed Memory: 3GB Available Memory Slots: 0 Total Memory Slots: 4 Dual Channel Support: Yes CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel CPU Family: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6700 @ 2.66GHz Model 15, Stepping 11 CPU Speed: 2667 MHz Graphics card is geforce 8500 GT with 600 gigs of hard drive
ATI cards are also pretty good against NVidia's, because they're smaller than NV cards of the same power. What's more, they require less wattage from your power supply. Overall -- cheaper, smaller, better.

yes great reviews as always. But this card was unavailable from the start for me here in europe.
I orderd one at one of the better shops but it didnt ship for 3 months so i cancelled it. It seems no shops are getting any new supply of it at all just after they were sold out at launch. no 58xxx or 5970 is being supplied only weak 5770 and 5750. Currently many people moved to them because of there availability in the hope they can sell it off later then go for a 58xx card. i hope it improves soon
got 2 sapphires and overclocked them to surpass 2 nvidias 295's . use msi afterburner works like a charm . has voltage increaser too just be very careful on that
This dude cannot speak well and should not be hosting this video. The way he looks when he is on camera is funny as hell. He annunciates his body language in such a way that makes him look like he's about to attack the viewer.
@wolfvisi0n Dude this card $hits on the gtx 260, it even beats gtx 285 in all most all games and benches. This card is cheap because thats what ati aims for they aim for high performance at a low price. Im not an ati fanboy but nvidia are way overpriced.
@samstar1412 Honestly this card is comparable to the Nvidia GTX 275 .. however that was released 1 years ago.. and is very outdated in many comparable respects. It also has no HDMI.. its funny its Nvidia likes to rush there products... but its no wonder. They were late on delivering the Fermi.. it sucks up to much juice . runs to hot.. and its 6months late. I used the 8800gtx(loved it) the shitty 9800gtx.. and now im getting that Sapphire TOXIC.. cant wait.
Different manufacturers provide different build ups from the cards.
They are all ATI Radon 5850's. All speeds and memory sizes are the same. However somthing as simple as the cooler may chance results slightly as shown above.
500 watt PSU with a combined 40 amps on the 12v rail. Notice that this last bit isn't important if you're running a regular setup with maybe 3-4 fans, DVD-RW, a few hard disks. It's for the top of the line computers that need more than, say, 35A~ on the 12v rails.
all cards are exactly the same but they differ in cost.Yet some offer some extra's for a barley noticable diffrence. I recommend the ASUS version because it has the voltage tweak which is great if you are interested into overclocking the card a bit later on as well that it comes with the free game DIRT2 and all other features.
if you already have a decent graphicscard i would go for the xbox 360 elite. Xbox wont drop much in price anytime soon. however this 5850 will cost €150 within a few months i dare to put a bet on that. ATI has to drop the price once nvidia shows off fermi. However it might not be available in numbers any time soon. a good solution between would be a radeon 4850- 4870 or 5770 if you want a cheap card which will hold until eventualy until a price drop of the 5870 will appear.
lol your right gpus usually drop in price a lot after a while ill stick with my 8800gt for now i just wanted it for dx11 anyway ill probably go with a 360. thanks!!!
hrm, alright i'll think about it a bit more. my current card gets between 35-50 fps in crysis at 1280*1024 so hopefully this card will do better than that. i'm thinking of getting this or the 5870 around the holiday season if i do get it. i might just get another gtx 275 and SLI them, but no dx11 support... hrm i just have to ponder a bit more lol XD and i think i'm gonna get a 1920*1200 res monitor soon lol
Still disappointed in the test system. The processor may be bottlenecking the GPU without overclocking. I would recommend a minimum of 3.5 ghz for the i7 920. 4 gb of memory has also become standard. Also isn't Vista SP2 out?
well, the i7 is fine @ stock speeds. My e8400 gets similar framerates to an i7 in Crysis when paired w/ a 5850. in GTA IV, an i7 destroys my e8400 in framerates and gaming performance though. If you're running 2 crossfire, you may see a bit of a bottleneck :p
yes. if you're going to be using 2 of them you would want a bigger PSU. I just bought myself the TX750 as I plan on buying myself a second one as a boxing day present :)

Could you please do an unbox and review by the ASUS EAH HD5850

This dude cannot speak well and should not be hosting this video. The way he looks when he is on camera is funny as hell. He annunciates his body language in such a way that makes him look like he's about to attack the viewer.

how is this card so cheap yet supports dx11? is it better than a gtx 260
wolfvisi0n 2 years ago
@wolfvisi0n Dude this card $hits on the gtx 260, it even beats gtx 285 in all most all games and benches. This card is cheap because thats what ati aims for they aim for high performance at a low price. Im not an ati fanboy but nvidia are way overpriced.
samstar1412 2 years ago 28
@samstar1412 the ati 5850 totaly destroys the gtx 260.....
Tehbarrel 1 year ago
@samstar1412 Honestly this card is comparable to the Nvidia GTX 275 .. however that was released 1 years ago.. and is very outdated in many comparable respects. It also has no HDMI.. its funny its Nvidia likes to rush there products... but its no wonder. They were late on delivering the Fermi.. it sucks up to much juice . runs to hot.. and its 6months late. I used the 8800gtx(loved it) the shitty 9800gtx.. and now im getting that Sapphire TOXIC.. cant wait.

why would they get different scores :S
matteuklol 2 years ago
Because allot of factors.
Different manufacturers provide different build ups from the cards.
They are all ATI Radon 5850's. All speeds and memory sizes are the same. However somthing as simple as the cooler may chance results slightly as shown above.

wait until after xmas to get it, it will surely drop

How much power is recommended for this card ?
sidedead92 2 years ago
500 watt PSU with a combined 40 amps on the 12v rail. Notice that this last bit isn't important if you're running a regular setup with maybe 3-4 fans, DVD-RW, a few hard disks. It's for the top of the line computers that need more than, say, 35A~ on the 12v rails.

Thanks dude :)

and the power is YOURS!!

how good is it compared to the 4890?
Tigergruppen88 2 years ago
At least 15% better!
The 4890 beats GTX 285 in most of the games but the 5850 definitely beats the GTX
MirceaBv 2 years ago 3
Better, by a good amount. In performance and features. Make no mistake.
velazkid 2 years ago
i ald have a 4890 in my comp... and i tot of buying another to crossfire it... but im also considering buying the new ati cards
Tigergruppen88 2 years ago
you will get about 20-25fps more with the 5850 in most game

do all monitors have to be the same brand or model? thks!
matrixITALIA 2 years ago
no, they dont all have to be the same brand or model
frazel999 2 years ago
all cards are exactly the same but they differ in cost.Yet some offer some extra's for a barley noticable diffrence. I recommend the ASUS version because it has the voltage tweak which is great if you are interested into overclocking the card a bit later on as well that it comes with the free game DIRT2 and all other features.

this vid was awesome!! but im kinda stuck im in between the gigabyte 5850 or xbox 360 elite lol no joke anyway thanks!
Pokanimal 2 years ago
if you already have a decent graphicscard i would go for the xbox 360 elite. Xbox wont drop much in price anytime soon. however this 5850 will cost €150 within a few months i dare to put a bet on that. ATI has to drop the price once nvidia shows off fermi. However it might not be available in numbers any time soon. a good solution between would be a radeon 4850- 4870 or 5770 if you want a cheap card which will hold until eventualy until a price drop of the 5870 will appear.
ixyoux1 2 years ago
lol your right gpus usually drop in price a lot after a while ill stick with my 8800gt for now i just wanted it for dx11 anyway ill probably go with a 360. thanks!!!

Hey nice video, tnx.
Had one question though, if the Sapphire's comes also with DiRT 2, why is the game only seen bundled with the XFX card in the video.
I wanted to know cuz i intend to buy the Sapphire one.
Tnx, keep up the good work!

hrm, would this be a decent upgrade up from my gtx 275 ya think?
ninjaseven 2 years ago 2
Absolutely, HD 5850 has been proven to be better than GTX 285 in Nvidia Optimized games even.
soulmman 2 years ago
hrm, alright i'll think about it a bit more. my current card gets between 35-50 fps in crysis at 1280*1024 so hopefully this card will do better than that. i'm thinking of getting this or the 5870 around the holiday season if i do get it. i might just get another gtx 275 and SLI them, but no dx11 support... hrm i just have to ponder a bit more lol XD and i think i'm gonna get a 1920*1200 res monitor soon lol
ninjaseven 2 years ago
If I got this right. Nvidia uses SLI and ATI uses Cross Fire?

yes that is correct

Unfortunately not
motherboardsorg 2 years ago
Still disappointed in the test system. The processor may be bottlenecking the GPU without overclocking. I would recommend a minimum of 3.5 ghz for the i7 920. 4 gb of memory has also become standard. Also isn't Vista SP2 out?
MrXrofl 2 years ago
well, the i7 is fine @ stock speeds. My e8400 gets similar framerates to an i7 in Crysis when paired w/ a 5850. in GTA IV, an i7 destroys my e8400 in framerates and gaming performance though. If you're running 2 crossfire, you may see a bit of a bottleneck :p

would the ATI HD5850 run on a Corsair TX650W?
chap1400 2 years ago
Yes, easily.
nuttynerd 2 years ago
yes. if you're going to be using 2 of them you would want a bigger PSU. I just bought myself the TX750 as I plan on buying myself a second one as a boxing day present :)
BrettHauls 2 years ago
yes. my 550 watt runs it fine.

of course it would.

interessante come, dopo le magagne nvidia, la GTX285 venga così surclassata in Batman A.A.
