The merchant marine has never been given enough credit! They are the life-blood of a modern society. They also had the 2nd highest causality rate of anyone during WW2 only the German submariners lost more per-capita. And they still go to sea!!
Conservapedia is using this video to criticize the theory of Evolution for some reason. They are officially the biggest amoral douchebags ever. This was a tragedy.
@Opontee Was about to post the same. God bless to all lost at almost the exact minute 36 years ago and to the hundeds before them. As I sit in my home in Southern Michigan on this evening, I can't help but be reminded of this anniversery as night falls and thier is a fair wind blowing in the fall chill.
My husband is a sailor and this is always a scary time of year. He doesn't like sailing on Lake Superior, but the ship he's on now goes there every trip just about. Very nice tribute. I can't wait for mid January!!!
The cover was well done, but I'm particularly impressed with the care you took with the video you put together to accompany this song. The song is a memorial to the 29 men, and the video you put together makes that very clear.
Nice tribute. really nice. God Bless "they that go down to the sea in ships..."
PW it s also perfect to cover with guitar cause the lyrics are at the perfect speed. I used to cover it on stage here and there, this is a good refresher, i haven't done it in a long time til today. i had my cover on you tube for a minute but they seent me a note, something about copyright issues. so i took it down. lol. don't need none o that.

This was such an incredible tragedy. This video literally brought me to tears. Mr. Lightfoot's song described it perfectly. The 29 men will always have a place in my heart. May God bless their families.
I was 13 when it went down and I went to Whitefish Point Michigan to pay my respects to all who were lost. Being Born in Milwaukee Wisconsin, you could only imagine what the crew went through. So if you have nothing nice to say please say nothing at all. Families lost their loved ones and children lost their fathers.
There is a reason it's call Lake Superior, I live in Duluth MN and that lake gets nasty, i was up at Split Rock light houes last year when they stop the light over that lake shine it 4 29 sec for each person that died, very sad. It shows us to not mess with mother nature, she will win ever time. God bless the families and RIP Edmond Fitz
The ship was over loaded. It left on a clear day. The smoke and smut it worked up created some issues above as it shoved waves. It as seen here 1:38 obivous. Amazing that the Edmund was filmed and by helecopter as well as it sank. Overloaded ment someone was the blame maybe the Captain. The order or call of Iron or Ore that filled the ships belly as coal. The edmund was owned by a insurance company and great lakes charter was the works of the dispatch. All sued.
My Father new two of the Crewmen...I was 12 at the time The Fitz went down..My Father worked at a Grain Mill .... He saw the Fitz 5 days before she went down....
I remember watching this same newscast with Harry Reesner on the evening on the day it went down.
