BTW - this is one of the best rock albums that nobody has ever heard (besides us Canadian prog-rock geeks) spread the word and get it out!! Oh, and I think it was track #2, "In the world of Giants" was the first track on that album....which contains the most blistering solo (maybe outside of Al Dimeola) that I have ever listened to!!
All I remember is going to a Rush concert back in the late 70's not knowing who Kim Mitchell was and seeing him coming out on stage in that yellow jump suit get-up playing Check? CREEPY!!! But damn he can play the guitar.
I've seen these guys open for RUSH many times during the late 70's and early 80's. They were a killer band. Kim Mitchell was and is a tremendous guitarist. "Check" is what they would open with.....so absolutely cool were these guys.....I was so lucky to have been there. Great, great memories.
Track number one? I have only owned the CD of Universal Juveniles, and 'Check' is not the first song on it. Is it on the vinyl version?
'Check' is totally great. I can't help but think the tune was penned from the obligatory "check, check" nonsense musicians are forced to endure preparing for a live performance. Like, one day Kim was doing it for the sound guy, and he thought, Man, I can write a song around this bullshit!
sounds plausible; just one thing - pye du bois (perhaps best known among rush fans as having submitted "tom sawyer" and "between sun and moon" to neil peart) wrote the lyrics to the max tunes...
Oh, sure. I know that. However, it isn't a stretch to imagine Kim gabbing with Pye and mentioning such a thing. I mean, who knows? Well, Kim does, of course.
This album and"Crash and Burn" from Pat Travers have got to be the best record album from the early eighties.Foreigner, Journey,There has got to be more.(Any suggestions?).
We will hand out 3D glasses and all the aspirins we can spare,
No compromise no deal !
I loved this back in '81 still love it now.
For God's sake ! Would someone write music like this again please !!!!

mitchell's playing at times reminds me of steve vai many years later, he was one of the first "shredders"...fairly ahead of his time
