  • it looks like a chesse stick

  • badass

  • thanks man, that brings back my boyhood!!

  • where can i find willow i live in a dry area does it need to be damp and near the coast?

  • Could'nt I jsut use an indestuctable Fox-40?

  • @Vyppaaa11 yes but then you shouldn't be in a survival scenario

  • @monkeyat12 It was a joke, (duh)

  • I saw Andrew doing this in Margam Park 2 years ago - it's easy, great fun and the kids are always impressed!!! (Until you're making your 10th whistle)

  • @MrBernig LOL

  • What is the song at the start?

  • where did you buy that knife?? my knife sucks at carving D:

  • ive made one at my grammas house in sweden

  • It does make a difference what season you do it in. In spring, the bark will slide off easier because of increased sap flow.

  • What brand of knife is that you're using? Looks like it sharpens up really well.

  • would it make a difference to the wood making one in winter?

  • where abouts are you from?

  • it's goood very good

    from siberia-altai-russia

    =)))

very interesting for living out of city!

new life? more things out of door

  • creapy person at the end

  • thats a nice whistle ,

if you're in a hurry , you can make one in about 20 seconds from two acorns, and its loud enough to make your ears ring ,

  • jesus...his knife cuts so smooth...

  • a properly sharpened knife can do wonders

  • do u use gerber knives at all and what brand of knife is that

  • i just seen a man making a wistle in 1.30 mins

  • video or it didn't happen.

  • a video here on YT's GB guy guess from scottland or manchester.

  • What's the name of that knife?

  • the funny thing about this whistle is that my dad knew how to make these when he was a child, so this is not really some new kind of whistle but it's ver good. with other words great

  • what kinda knife is that? xD

  • does it really needs to be willow?

  • No Sycamore works too

  • But it must be willow or sycamore? I've tried this with beech and maple and no go...

  • I made one from ash. But then broke it because i thought i would dry it out in the sun and the bark split.

  • @ArvinX5 you can also use aspen

  • i have had like a heep of attemps of making a willow whistle but i cant get the bark of if i got it off i'd be able to make it

    cya. good video to

  • try cutting a piece directly off the tree, it should work better

  • i must fail... coz ive only tried this once before... and i made this neat looking little whistle... that when blown made no wgistle....lol. but perhaps it was where i placed my air release hole

  • the guy at the end is officially gay and retarded.

  • very cool

  • its merely to lift moral and spirits

  • its also good in some cases to attract animals and such

  • I wish I had a nickle for every time that dude at the end said TV..lol

  • i cant find this tree

  • come to finland, here is almost everywhere that tree.. D:

  • Your not trying hard enough.

  • Its just a willow. You can find types of them all over America and Europe. You don't even need it to be this type. I hear maple works well too.

  • man you are a enseration cuz in my culture we gotto be intwinded with the wilderness agien you are a insperation

  • where are you in this vid,is this just forestry land? i,m looking for new places, can you suggest any, nice vid by the way, used to make these as a kid but not from willow,i used ordinary branches but i was inexperieced then.

  • hehe i maked a hundred of that whistle when i was a kid :) i totaly forgoted how to make them now ;D great that i remeber now beacause the video :D Thanks a lot!

  • this is cool, if you have no willow around you can also make a 'P' whistle out of a soda/beer can

  • is this a tv show?

  • he doesn t actually tell you how you can recognise a willow tree. does anyone know?

    cheers.

  • big long brances that hang down and long skinny type leaves or just google it

  • everyone that knows anythink knows what a willow tree looks like... right? maybe my family are outdoor wierdos?

  • We do but that's because we live in the Sierra Nevadas and it's everywhere. I know that willow has a distinct smell and as what MonkeyDog500 says it has big long branches that hang down. But they also look like branches that just grow out of the dirt.

  • it depends on where you live. where i live there is no willow at all...

  • a Willow tree is a tree that has long hanging branches like a bull whip. I hope this helps you out. :) If not then look on google images.

  • I love making wooden whistles, and I like your technique for doing so, it's nice and efficient for survival use, But I prefer a wood look on the outer of mine, plus if it's burnished and boiled in oil it looks really cool. I also get the sense that it's a little cleaner, even though willow isnt exactly toxic.

    Nice vid anyway.

  • I have done a few of these with (green) maple branches and (green) oak-- new growth. Same idea but a little trickier than doing willow.

Nice job. I just wanted to say your knife handling technique was good when making the chamber. One slip and it is "Start-over" time.

Fun to watch you do this one

  • great lesson!thanks as to the knife see search youtube for greenpete

  • Thisnt isnt the same knife as greenpetes but its a similar design (scandi grind)

  • do u ever reply to your vuiwers/fans? GOSH!

  • does this work with any other types of wood

  • has rivieratime said it might be but trickeir

  • A few different types of wood with soft thick cambium layer can work.Willow is easiest. For anyone not wanting to spend the time whittling, one of my old tricks. Take a plain plastic soda straw. BEND it about 1.5 inches from the end. Length= Pitch, Place it against your lower lip, blow across the open end like you were playing a jug. I also used to carry empty 22 long rifle or 22 magnum brass shells to make a signal whistle in emergencies. Blow across the open end. COST =ZERO. TIME=ZERO.

  • What kind of knife is that? I like it, where can I buy one?

    Thank you. :o)

  • it is a carbon steel knife, with a single beveled edge. probably from sweden.

  • YAY!

  • Ahhhh Lovely video crafting in the woods. Thanks for the relaxing vid. 5 stars for you.

  • The POINT is that you should ALWAYS carry a whistle with you while in the forest/bush... Could significantly increase your chances of being heard if you need to be rescued...

  • survival trivia checkout my channel changes weekly

  • beautiful vid and then that annoying man comes on at the end. :(

  • masterofunicycles- You need to let your video buffer. You obviously are running a slow connection like dial up, so open the video then pause it and leave it for like 20 minutes.

  • I've no patience for that. Thank you though.

  • cool idea, whistles carry much farther than your voice so they are useful

  • ahhhhhh! I hate youtube, it never lets me watch the whole movie. now i'll never know how to make a sweet whistle

  • try bellsouth, its pretty cheap, and you dont need to let the video buffer, it buffers while you watch so you get one nice smooth clip.

  • whats the point... guess its kinda art

  • This stuff is pretty cool, espically since this stuff is catching on. There is already 2 shows on TV here but you can always learn different stuff from other people.

  • Nice little project there, good to see someone who knows what they're doing for a change.
