Beautiful set-up, I'm really enjoying your videos, your craftsmanship, the lightning, the video angle, everything - I'm so jealous...
I've just recorded Memories of Green with the "dark helicopter sound" from Blade Runner (Memories of Green was composed before the movie) in the background instead of the synths of the original. Just click on my avatar to check it out in my channel. Thanks!
And really nice cover by the way. I had to write this in new comment, because I reached limit. I'd love to see the notes, but I remember, that you can' read and write them... Anyway, best wishes, and looking forward for some Vangelis type of theme!
Hi Mike! Have you find out, how Vangelis recorded this one? The background "bleeps" I mean. Because you wont believie it! ". The electronic noises also featured on this track came from one of the first handheld electronic games, a Japanese product called the "Bambino UFO Master Blaster Station"(!). Raphael Preston remembers " having to play it for the length of the piece without losing the game, because when you lost, it made the most horrible noise " ". It's amazing, how he created new sounds.
So nice I was mesmerized ... I just Love Vangelis ... very good job ... would you be interested in doing a Recording project with some "names" ... you can email at : jeffpinfo@gmail.com ... hope to hear from you ... GREAT playing, GREAT sounds ... Thank You so much ... Bladerunner was a great movie ... my all time favorite
Just listening to this again... you truly have a gift for this sort of thing. This is so beautiful and such a perfect dedication to the film. As another commenter pointed out, I can close my eyes and picture Deckard's dimly lit apartment, Rachel crying over her imaginary past etc. wonderful atmosphere.
Very cool! I see you don't know how to read music, but who cares if you know how to MAKE music. I love Vangelis' ambience, and you definitely captured it, kind of makes me wish I had the equipment you do.
Great work! My opinion about the flanger effect of the piano is that he used a Leslie speaker.Just like Pink Floyd did in ''Echoes''.The piano is nearly the same there...but you can never be sure : D
Very good, but only Vangelis can play this wonderful music with transmitting emotion, he touch his keyboard very smoothly, the melody seems floating in the air, it seems your fingers are too heavy, I don't feel all the sadness feeling of the original. Vangelis is a Master!!
Whow, the background sounds sound brilliant. I'd like to hear it all the way through though, you can buy the notes you know? I have a copy (not for sale of course!).
Thanks Mike, but I can't read music, only play by ear. There are some tricky bits in it that are only for piano players I think. I spend more time getting the sound from the synths !
@mik300z: Pretty good, considering you can't read music! The first part of the piece is played in D-major and the second part is in F-major. I hope that helps you out to play it in the right key next time!
@mik300z It would be the greatest pleasure if you could play ''Chariots of fire'' by Vangelis Papathanasiou or ''Echoes of Antarctica''. I also play piano by ear, but I did some studies for about 15 years. It really requires to be patient until you get the results you want.
Very nice try man, you really have talent. Could you give a try for those exerpts?
@nanchuanwushu1 Hi John, Thanks:) My hands often drift to the chariots melody but I'm not quite there yet! I also love the antarctica echoes ( I have played some of it on my video Vangelis Echoes) . The final track on that album is one I have in mind for a future video.
@mik300z I have seen 2 syntesizers that caught my attention: The Korg M50 (61) and the yamaha M06.
What's your suggestion for me to buy - from your experience -? Can I make my own sounds effects (mostly from orchestral instruments, like horn, trumpet, violin, flute, also electrical effects, and more ''natural'' effects, like air). Will be enough to use 3 synths for Vangelis music? I also want make my own music
I'm the same way. I can't read it either - and that confuses my musically inclined son. To him, it's second nature.
I just finished selling a majority of my brother's synths that he left behind when he died. I kept the ones I wanted... Too bad there wasn't a CS80 in his collection of 30 synthesizers. :(
Wow...Good job! You really got the everything right, with the effects and the general ambience. I play this on the piano in my drunken tinkering moods. I absolutely love this movie and the beautiful score. I made a Vangelis-inspired song. It's song 2 on my myspace page (linked from my profile). It drags on because I have few musical ideas...but I thought you might appreciate it.
From what I've read, Vangelis ran the piano sound through an Electric Mistress flanger pedal. the bleeps heard throughout the first half of the track were from an early electronic handheld game - apparently they had to play this thing almost faultlessly for several minutes to get enough of the sounds down on tape - if they had messed up on the game, it would have made a horrible buzzing sound and ruined the track!
Simply Beautiful. My head is filled with images of Deckard's smoke filled apartment, hover-cars, Japanese coke ads and Sean Young's imaginary childhood. Thank you.
Cheers! I guess he would have run it through the CP-80 EP? I remember reading somewhere that he used a flange pedal , but who's to know at the end of the day? :)
That the real answer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNN PPPPUUUUPPPPPPPPPLLLLLLLLIIIIICCCCCCCCC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE GREAT !!!!!
Cheere Jens , I won't be doing a cover CD of Vangelis tunes. Even though I respect your comments, I enjoy doing the covers , I always learn something new .Lol, BTW, I picked this tune No. 1 because the beginning is easy enough to play and No.2 it's St. Patricks day here in Ireland. Memories of green gets tricky near the end, no-where near my humble tinkling on the piano........I had to learn and struggle with the part I played for a number of evenings
never said that playing Vangelis is easy, but you are coming so damn close but still keep your own Style. Just keep doing like you do now and you do great.
BTW: If you should make a Cover of "Pulstar" dont make a Dance / Techno Version, i did that about 20 years ago on Amiga with Octamed, a bunch of Samples ... my Music-Teacher in School throw me out of Class because of that, well he was a "Die-Hard" Vangelis Fan ...

Hey , what's your setup for this? It looks like your playing on the esq-1. Are you just running the signal from the juno g through it?
Also, I just bought an esq-1, my first synth ever. Really looking forward to it.

Yep, I still use my ES1 as midi controller. Juno G piano played through it. ESQ has much nicer keys:)
