    Apolagies for taking so long in replying - differential in drying is not a method, it refers to wood splitting because of stresses set up during drying - if the wood dries evenly then there is no or very little splitting. The best way of making the wood dry evenly is to reduce its bulk as much as possible, in other words the outer parts do not dry much quicker than the inner parts as the wood is quite thin.

    Best way is to have a go.

    I use many methods, but none include the axe.
