This race was bullshit, monohull vs catamaran? Its like a bicycle vs a motorcycle... America's Cup had always been monohulls before this. The rules didn't prohibit it but i wish Stars and Stripes had a little more class and respect, biggest loophole/cheat in Cup history

Ellison challenged alinghi's protocol in court and won 11 out of 11 times . alinghi tried to cheat their way into ownership of the auld mug and thanks to Ellison they were denied . Say what you want about the man , but it is indisputable , to me , that he did sailing a great favor .
I agree. I'm really not a fan of Ellison. But this whole thing started with Alinghi accepting that bogus Challenger of Record from that yacht club that hadn't sailed a single regatta. A clear violation of the rules. They brought this on themselves. They just messed with a guy who had as much money as Bertarelli did. I hope Ellison restores the Cup to the old days of Dennis Conner.

when you try to skirt the rules, be aware! i am glad the US got both KZ1 and Alinghi at these stupid games. level the field and go back to the original gift intentions.
How do you defend Dennis Connor turning up to an Yacht race with an Winged multi when Fay and Co's intent was to sail boats like the original yachts in the Americas cup and make it an spectical. Also Louis Vutton would still have been here if TNZ had won the 32nd Challenge . They stated that they thought TNZ were setting the right standard and thats why they lleft !!!

TNZ, who i like, screwed themselves by skirting the rules with not giving the US enough time to build a boat to match the tnz boat. since tnz had an obscene design which many saw as a rulebreaker and the time constraint the us simply put the cat in the race.
Alinghi at EVERY turn has been underhanded from stealing their sailors right up to the RC MUTUNY at the last race.
why would alinghi face the same fate? I think (hope) the races will be quite even....certainly more so than what this was against dennis's catamaran.

@Mareoface I guess my question has been answered. Unfortunately these contests are not judged on the quality of the owner's character, nor the beauty of the boat.
Alinghi could have built a wing themselves but Bertarelli is an arrogant tool and thought his boat was fast enough without one. He deserves to lose and be embarassed for trying to make it impossible for him to lose by hiring the umpires etc. I despise Alinghi.

Will Alinghi face the same fate - loser to a wing sail? It almost makes me cheer for Alinghi because of this comparison.
