Brilliant song. Check out all-girl psychedelic group Stealing Sheep, their pastoral tunes are similar to Blue Roses'. youtube.com/watch?v=WIvFzQjDB0U&feature=related
They tried this back thirty-something years ago, along with several other "3d tv" experiments. It didn't work then, and I'm pretty sure it's not going to be boom now.
An artful execution of a really nice idea. Can't quite figure out how it was shot, or what it exactly *means*. Is that a hazard symbol? Is it all cautionary tale about being too wired? :p
Anyway, very cool.
78UNKNOWN - 'tripling the frame rates' - that would negate the effect, I think? I'm curious about the hi/lo limits of the effect, myself - is this at 5 'frames' / sec?
stefanoazevedo: provenance. Those 2 vids were flickery, but neither had the same effect nor intent - be honest :)
This effect is well in static images, but moving video at all is achieved the desired effect. Does anyone know if they have the video also anaglyph mode, to view with typical gajas blue and red or green and red? Even with the method of crossing the eyes would have been much better. This is not an video in 3D. What a waste, be able to shoot in 3D with two cameras, and desaprobecharla well.
Looking past people's judgement of whether or not they properly did the 3D camera shift, this is still an amazingly beautiful and eerie song, and the video itself plays up both of those elements. I'm surprised I haven't seen more feedback that doesn't just comment on the 3D nature of the video.
Stupid. It just looks like the left eye view, then the right eye view back and forth and I see no depth. It's like camera #1, then camera #2 over and over. Maybe it's for slow people... 3d stereoscopy isn't about moving from one view point to the other, but seeing both views to each eye simultaneously. Some 3d systems mimick this with super high frame rates. But this isn't going to cut it.
Whilst I wouldn't call it 3D, this technique does produce a much greater feeling of depth, I think. The issue is that the nature of the recording method means that only the point which is in perfect focus is represented with the '3D effect'. The rest just shivers around wildly. I'd have thought a higher frame rate would work better, but epilepsy sufferers have to be taken into account. It's certainly a beautiful experimental video and suits the song very well.
Parts of this, especially the high angle shots can give the illusion of 3D. So do some of the closeups on faces. I'm interested in this concept and am looking forward to how it's developed. Well done!
Okay, it sort of works (although it is obviously not a viable option for 3D videos), but they should have done this in a video where there are more things going towards the viewer, and most importantly, where the GROUND is not visible at these moments. In a 3D film it is MUCH harder to picture that an object is popping out of the screen when you can see that it is on the ground.
you are supposed to focus on the stationary object of each scene for the illusion to work better. Some shots are just remarkable. One frame is meant for left eye, and the other for right eye. Think of it something like magiceye and immerse yourself, I think you can see it.
Youtube converts framerates to 15fps, so it's difficult to tell if this video looks the way it was intended. Perhaps at 30fps or 60fps the effect would be less distracting?
i wouldnt call this 3d. more like 2d double camera rotation. the constant flip from camera angle 1 to 2 makes this suck. maybe if one is really messed up they wont notice the change, but i doubt it even then. back to the drawing board...
ok i was once on a tram, and on my camera i was panning the camera, and i got 2 images slightly out of place, and i got results like this. it wasn't exactly 3d. i prefer those fancy sony tv's instead of this
I wanted to like it, but the cameras weren't aligned well enough. It's supposed to be a very subtle shift, not the dramatic lurch that occurs in many of the shots.
I've seen wiggle stereoscopy applied to stills and really liked the effect. Maybe it just doesn't translate to a moving image?
You should search for "Harmonic 313 - Battlestar" or "Wang Chung - Everybody Have Fun Tonight". These musicvideos were made before yours and use the same flickering trick. Please be honest and remove the word "first" from your title!
oh dear i can see it, dont look too close to the screen or concentrate at one point. Stay as further from the screen as u can, and look at the parameter first and slowly moves inside and u will see it
That was a bit weird. Getting a bit tired at first, but it feels like I just need to get used to it. I like it, but I think I need to see more videos like this to get used to the effect.
If it doesn't work it's probably because I am doing something wrong... so, I thought the only way to fool my brain and get the illusion that I am watching something in 3D would be to blink my eyes really super fast while rapidly switching from the left eyes to the right eye in perfect synchronized way with the stereoscopy effect - Try it, it's fun ! It will make you sick for days!
One thing you can also try do to make the effect more apparent is.. alternately wave your hands infront of your eyes at the speed of the "wiggle" (ie. one hand is covering one eye while the other isn't and swap hands every time the wiggle changes frames, so yes.. very fast.)
Look at the ground at around 1:40. Your brain processes the depth because of the sudden changes in angles. It only somewhat works since both angles are exposed to both eyes..
I got here following a Gizmodo link. I got the effect very clearly. My screen is 23". Maybe those of you that didn't get it have small screens. The camera focuses on one thing that doesn't move. The other things around the object of focus do move. That movement creates a depth perception around the fixed object. Try focusing on the thing that isn't moving and see how the things around it create the depth.
What's the hell are you all talking about I don't see anything 3d about this. And I've seen pixel shake before and it worked on me I don't know what this is.

I only saw some "shaking" pictures but anyway, if you think it 3D, it would be 3D.
And also, I knew this video from a magazine from HK.
Some suggestion:
If it's brighter, it would be more "3D" and the frame speed should faster.
