I'm a 4th year games programming student and in my class of about 35 people, we only have one other female student (she's also one of the best in the class). The games industry needs more diversification, so if you want to become a games developer, go for it. Try Game Maker or Unity (if you have some programming experience) to get your feet wet.

Also, no serious games developers make games for Linux. The last good thing to come out of the Linux game dev community was SDL and that was years ago.
