I must have seen the same tour too. It was Styx and Uriah Heep in Lewiston, Maine. Surprisingly, I still remember it well. Styx almost stole the show (their time was yet to come) but in the end, UH pulled it off...
I saw this tour in 1976 and had front row - standing against the stage in an indoor arena in Binghamton, NY. Styx was the opening band. David Byron was wearing the same white scarves that night. Halfway through the show he threw one of his scarves into the audience and I caught it. He then asked for it back! I shook my head and smiled - and kept my Heep souvenier for many years after.
"Shit I get all tearie eyed everytime I wander to one of these Jam secessions I'm 55 from Chi-Town went to all those concerts.Partied up and down Harlem Ave, and Shiller woods, during the 70's,Had a 69'Malibu,396 c.u.Stock-Quad... 6x9's 8-track,getting kittie every weekend."Damn I had fun!
Always thought this band was so underrated here in the northeast. They got little airplay from the FM stations here and we didn't know they existed unitl they were gone!
"But from now till who knows when, my sword will be my pen" - "And I've seen so far into the night, and lingered in the land of no light" - the astral playground far beyond--the astral playground far beyond.....the astral playground far beyond...oh,yeah !! friend's house, Oct. '73-black lights focused on a Bruce Lee poster- first time I heard this song-- pot drying on the window sill...easier times...
You guys from New Orleans are killing me, I'm laughing so much at the memories. Saw Uriah Heep at either The Warehouse or Municipal Auditorium in the 70's I can't remember......maybe like you guys I was too high on Columbian, windopane, microdot, angel dust, blond Lebanese.......the list is endless. But hey, we had a blast. 1st album I ever bought as a kid was "Demons and Wizards" in 72, and still have it.
Why the band doesn't get played on Classic Rock Stations baffles me to this day...Hell they were a big band and I was in High school and bought my vinyl copies when they came out...Recorded on my big ass cassette recorder and played tapes in my car and house...almost virgin copies of this shit....Montrose, BOC, Uriah Heep, Doobies, REO when REO was cool..Ridin' Storm Out....Those were good days and $10 oz bags of mexican green...$20 for Columbian Red Bud...
@1stSaintsFan And nickel bags. Hey these people who play the tunes on the supposed classic rock stations don't even know who Uriah Heep is, ain't no DJs anymore, just people who push buttons, especially here in NOLA. I woke up this morniong and I got myself a beer. Cheers !
@ErnieK57 Hell yeah!!! Started my weekend L.Night....Will crack me a Shiner Bock here in NELA north of the Red RIver...Later Cajun MoFo MoJitos for everyone and play some Uriah Heep...Hope things are going well in NOLA....Long Live running the back roads of Rural La. On the Levee Breakers known as Classic Ford Broncos now...Drinking Pre-Katrina Falstaffs and Miller Ponys for the Ladies...Good Times...When Shotgun didn't mean the front Passenger Seat....Big Bambu Out!!!
@1stSaintsFan Some days those were. I recorded cassette tapes of all my vinyl too! I am familiar with the other stuff you mention from those days also. I miss those times...

@madmax5556 True Gary Thain died tragically, but it was not due to a curse. It was due to a heroin overdose. He was not a victim, but chose what he wanted to do.
special memories, this album...13 years old and starting to lose my innocence. unlike many uriah heep albums/tunes this album has many tunes that have aged really well.
It's too bad pop culture doesn't allow for good music like this. I would have never heard this song if it weren't for it being played as background noise in one of the AF installations I worked at. This is one of my favorite songs ever.
@Sinceube 'I do not like the reappearance of The Jesuits ... If ever there was a body of men who merited damnation on earth and in hell, it is this society of Loyola's. I still have this on a virtually PRISTINE original vinyl copy from 1972. Great song, great album, great band that you (sadly) don't hear much about anymore.
@voluntaryistguy and I have an 8-track cassete of the Magicians Birthday but no way to play it, still reminds me of my cruising drinking and tokin days
@flyinv1967 Yeah my friend Cory has this 8 Track, too. And I never heard it until approx. 1992 (yes, he had an 8 Track player at home and in his car as recent as 1992). Of course, I heard "Easy Livin'" and "Stealing" way back in the 70s, but the song "The Magician's Birthday" takes the cake! I got to see them in concert at the Grand Masonic Temple in Spokane, WA in 1994, opening up for BÖC. But they didn't play The Mag. Birthday! Slight bummer.
@ron5399 Gary Thain is right there with Entwistle from Who and is in the top five of bassists that I have listened to, he is/was fantastic with the bass no doubt
Uriah Heep is undoubtedly one of the most magical bands that ever created music.Wish I had a time machine and could taste such music with all my senses...

@MsThebeMoon That is true! Back then it was more about the music than about cloning bands for profit.
