Xandros was fun but its security was atrocious so fuck it, I deleted it.

Then I installed ubuntu eee and it ran hideously, unbearably slow with its netmix user interface.

So I disabled the interface and it ran at a good fast speed.

But it's not open source so fuck it.

Then I installed normal Ubuntu 8.10 (not another ubuntu eee or that easy peasy shit) and I'm happy with it.

i was able to get it working both with the first version of this script with ndiswrapper, and also with later version with native driver.

if you are having some troubles with gnome wifi manager, i solved them manually managing the net by wpasupplicant

ndiswrapper takes care of wireless; it comes on the ubuntu cd; all you have to do is check a checkbox in synaptic ;)

LOL. Slow startup time. It doesn't show until ya have to watch it in a vid ! Xandros SEEMED great to begin with until I realised the backend is borked completely ruining the whole point of having linux on there. Why didn't they just put Ubuntu on there ? I bet Asus would have shifted many more units with things like Compiz Fusion burning away in computer shop windows ;)

New users: Wait until the Ubuntu distros have been finalised and you can install like Wubi (look it up).

It is too slow booting compared to the default Xandros. The Xandros mode is very cute when you think the Eee Pc as a PDA instead of a mobile computer.

No, unfortunately it's a GNOME desktop theme, not KDE (the environment on the Eee).

As far as I know Xandros Os use IceWm in easy mode, in order to have KDE you have to install it by repository.
