LOL. Slow startup time. It doesn't show until ya have to watch it in a vid ! Xandros SEEMED great to begin with until I realised the backend is borked completely ruining the whole point of having linux on there. Why didn't they just put Ubuntu on there ? I bet Asus would have shifted many more units with things like Compiz Fusion burning away in computer shop windows ;)
New users: Wait until the Ubuntu distros have been finalised and you can install like Wubi (look it up).
It is too slow booting compared to the default Xandros. The Xandros mode is very cute when you think the Eee Pc as a PDA instead of a mobile computer.
You're right. That's a terrible boot-time. 40 seconds is about as bad as XP. I think some kernel optimizations may be in order - or at least a nose at eeeXubuntu or something
Hey, could you post a link to the info about the Ubuntu script for optimisation etc? I want an EeePC with Ubuntu because I'm familiar with it, but was a bit put off with ~1.30 loading times...
No wait: "31BCFEAT"

No way to install Eeebuntu STANDARD 3.0
on eeepc,
I tested all : USB, SD card, from 2 GB to 16 GB ,
16 or 32 Formation,
No way.
eeebuntu_standard_1.0.iso works fortunately.

works stable and not laggy. I like that

Xandros was fun but its security was atrocious so fuck it, I deleted it.
Then I installed ubuntu eee and it ran hideously, unbearably slow with its netmix user interface.
So I disabled the interface and it ran at a good fast speed.
But it's not open source so fuck it.
Then I installed normal Ubuntu 8.10 (not another ubuntu eee or that easy peasy shit) and I'm happy with it.
For now.

Leopardish :)) I love UNIX in terms of customization it's unbeatable, is free it has tons of apps , really really fantastic

The bootup would likely be even faster without the OSX skins and compiz effects.

queda mejor si no se imita la GUI de mac os X, mejor diseñar una propia, mac hay muchos y todos iguales, gnu/linux pocos y MUY personalizables :)

i was able to get it working both with the first version of this script with ndiswrapper, and also with later version with native driver.
if you are having some troubles with gnome wifi manager, i solved them manually managing the net by wpasupplicant
ntweb 3 years ago
Yeah... Great...
But can you get the wireless working?
dv5j3m 3 years ago
ndiswrapper takes care of wireless; it comes on the ubuntu cd; all you have to do is check a checkbox in synaptic ;)

can u install the program into a reguler asus eee by any chance
brybryxcore 4 years ago
No, unfortunately it's a GNOME desktop theme, not KDE (the environment on the Eee).
LessthanJake14 4 years ago
As far as I know Xandros Os use IceWm in easy mode, in order to have KDE you have to install it by repository.
ntweb 4 years ago

No, sorry the Xandros comes with optimised version of Xfce.
LessthanJake14 4 years ago
Are you sure? Looking at Eeeuser wiki it is said that Xandros Easy mode is using a tuned IceWm, and you can upgrade to Advance mode installing Kde.
ntweb 4 years ago
Yup, it is IceWM/KDE...

Sure, type "glxgears" in your terminal ;)

Ah, thanks. I'm TOTALLY Linux illiterate.

whats a 2D os?
freze2 4 years ago
An OS with NO 3D effects such as Compiz Fusion or Beryl, or Spaces.
LessthanJake14 4 years ago
Hey, what do you have the processor overclocked to? I'm planning on getting a 900 when it comes out and would like to know how compiz runs.
Teh1337Striker 3 years ago
I used the eeexubuntu script, it has a native module to support 900mhz overclock
ntweb 3 years ago
and where did you get that awsome leopard theme?
