the first spahlinger-piece i have listened to was his "doppelt bejaht" (etudes for orchestra) at donaueschinger musiktage 2009 - and IMO it failed completely and i missed any "knew" idea in it... so it's nice to hear a piece which shows he can it better...
I heard this piece at its premiere in Witten and read the notes Spahlinger wrote about it. His explanation was complete nonsense.
I discussed that with a teacher of musicology at the University of Bochum (where I might have begun to study musicology), and she told me that I shouldn't care about Spahlinger's explanation and just judge the piece by itself. That seemed so extremely un-scientifical to me, that I decided musicology to be a big joke.
@UkulelePoltergeist I'm afraid I would have to agree with the teacher of musicology. My opinion is that music is only sound and has no meaning apart from that which is assigned to it by the listener. In other words, it's a subjective art, not an objective science.
The irony in this: she probably *is* right in what she said. But if what she *said* is right, then what she *did* is wrong: to teach musicology like a science. ;-)
Anyway, my decision *not* to earn my money with music, was the right one, I guess. Being an amateur means being a lover, and being in love with music feels much better than being employed by her. :-D
@UkulelePoltergeist - You made a good decision. This coming from someone whose degrees are in music! It's good to be able, as you said, to simply love and enjoy the music!
some people just talk too much..this piece of music already speaks for itself....

I studied mathematics and physics instead.
