another easy way to do this is if you get a HUGE amout of buckets, fill them with lava, and place them above ground anywere. now do the same with water only dump the water on the lava. you WILL get at least 4 blocks of obsidian. Though this is time consuming it works well. i think obsidian is also made simply if water lands on a perfectly flat block of lava.

actually i developed a way similar to this

1 dug one down

2 put water in it

3 removed water and dug all blocks left right front and back of me while standing close to them

4 repeate 2-3 in greater area never dig diagonal

When I want to make a server, i just get some buckets of lava and sme water and make a frame of still lava then harden it, remove the frame and its done.

Or you could exploit a glitch. Whenever I enter my portal to the nether, then leave, I end up in a new portal, which i can easily mine for obsidian. Unlimited obsidian generator ftw.

I use a different method but it's pretty much the same. I stand on an elevated block and dump the water around me so I'm not getting pushed. This is because very rarely the lava is faster than the water, and I want to keep my britches from burning. ;)

why go all the trouble ? you simply need 2 buckets . first use your 2 buckets to make an infinite water source .second you pick 1 lava bucket . third you make a hole in the ground . fourth you pour your lava bucket into the hole , fifth you put the water on top of the lava . sixth enjoy unlimited obsidian blocks

Lesson learned for me, always carry a bucket of water

Efficient tactic. I always just lay down water up a small slope, then take buckets of lava and pour it on each block until all of the water is transformed.

We used this tactic to build an arch with a dirt "mold" and lava/water combo. Saves on diamond pickaxes, but takes longer to plan and stuff.

theres an easyer why than that, all you have to do is...when on the surface dig a rectangle 4 x 4, then build it up a block dig out the 4 corners of the 4 x 4 and fll them with lava then get a bucket oof water and mine ike that is what i do its way easier if you do 4 4x4 boxes..try it :P

To get water make a bucket, and you can collect lava in EXACTLY the same way, and then you can MAKE you own obsidian by first pouring your lava into a mould of the shape/place/thing you want to make it into, and then just pour water over it, and there you have home made obsidian! Note: if you're making Walls or other 'layered' objects you will need to make the obsidian in layers!!

Now I need to trek my ass all the way back to the mine far from the polar region and get soem buckets of water that i need to go all the way in the mine, get lost, find the obsidian, Leave, get lost again, make it to the upper coal mine, Get lost yet again, Then gtfo for a long ass walk home.
