  • Sister Carol Hughes, a Los Angeles Family History Library volunteer, assists a visitor.

  • The new complex is housed in the same building as the refurbished LDS visitors center located on Temple Hill just off the 405 Freeway, boasted by some, as the busiest freeway in America. It is the second major LDS family history resource to reflect the new emphasis on digital access and training spaces. (The first was in Riverton, Utah, opened in June 2010.)

  • To Muslims, he is known as the Merciful, the Guardian, the Omniscient, the Magnificent. Christians, too, join in by praising God as the Judge, the Giver of Life and the Truth.

The Islamic tradition of knowing The 99 Most Beautiful Names of God struck a chord with Andrew Kosorok, an LDS artist who embarked on a years-long project to depict each of those 99 names in sculptural stained glass.

  • Knowing her nephew to be a reputable man, Knable grew interested in the faith and asked for copy of the "Book of Mormon."

"I read it and couldn't put it down," Knable said.

For her, the book is a record of people from the original tribes of Israel who made their way to the Americas. Here they were taught by Jesus after his crucifixion and resurrection. The scriptures, in plain language, are a record of how Jesus ministered on this continent.

  • @omiolo Greatest bit on nonsense ever created. Amazing that any adults would believe this hocus pocus.

  • @rumpwrestler spoken like an IGNORAMUS!

  • The title of the book refers to the idea put forward in

antiquity that our souls begin with wings, and that only after

shedding those wings do we fall to earth. The book not only traces the

history of the idea of pre-existence, but also captures its meaning

for those who have embraced it. Givens describes how pre-existence has

been invoked to explain "the better angels of our nature," including

the human yearning for transcendence and the sublime.

  • PROVO — Turning 50 isn't normally a birthday to savor — unless you're a journal.

And then, thriving for five decades is something to be celebrated, which is what BYU Studies will do this weekend with a two-day anniversary symposium.

  • While Haiti seeks to build a new infrastructure, the Haitian Latter-day Saints have a personal foundation that is unwavering and firm. An infrastructure in their nation will follow the building of an internal infrastructure based on a sure foundation.

  • Others have their own dreams. Pierre Dartiguenave was born in Haiti, but grew up from age 12 in Connecticut where he was taught the gospel and baptized, attending BYU and serving a mission in Oakland, California. He volunteered to help with the Utah Hospital Task force in Haiti—but carried his own separate burden. His sister died in the earthquake, leaving behind a little girl, and her funeral was held while the task force was in Haiti.

  • Papa Doc Duvalier, who took office in 1964 became almost the movie caricature of the corrupt, vicious tyrant. Thousands just simply disappeared in his nightmare republic and his son Baby Doc was a playboy who dropped millions as a conspicuous consumer while his people starved.

  • In 1804, in a successful slave rebellion, Haiti became independent, but only with the agreement in 1825 under threat that it make huge reparations to France, a debt that was 10 times its annual revenue. Thus Haiti started its fledgling life as a debtor nation.

  • Fanene made 10 starts at defensive end for the Cincinnati Bengals, filling in for Antwan Odom. He had two sacks, one interception and made four tackles in Cincinnati's playoff loss to Pouha's Jets.

  • "There's been situations where so-and-so goes down, someone comes up," Pouha told the New York Post during his team's playoff run. "I think it's more of a reflection of team unity than an individual process. It just shows it's not about the individual."

  • Sione Pouha and Jonathan Fanene, teammates on the 2004 University of Utah Fiesta Bowl team, both stepped into starting roles and flourished in 2009. Pouha filled in for injured Pro Bowler Kris Jenkins and made 45 tackles for the New York Jets, who advanced to the AFC championship game.

  • Ngata finished the regular season with 35 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He also recorded a sack during the Ravens' playoff run.

  • "Last year, so many people had said that I would be going to the Pro Bowl and this and that, and I was kind of paying attention to what was going on around the league with guys in my position," Ngata told the Baltimore Sun. "I think I kind of worried about it too much and didn't end up going. This year, I was kind of like, 'If it happens, it happens.' And I ended up going. Now I'm way excited and happy to get picked."

  • So they got something right. This doesn't validate all their crazy beliefs. 8 to 12 more years of self-delusion, yippee!

  • I believe in this "health code" of the Church of Jesus Christ and have and continue to work at living by this health standard and so far have been doing great. The more I follow it the better I do and the less I do the less healthy I am.

  • i have been lds for 20 years so anyone have questions let me know.

  • I am SOOO glad I'm converting to Mormonism =)

  • Glad your jioning us! but I wouldn't say mormonism, it makes us sound like a cult.

If you want to talk to someone, I'm here!

  • Haha. Thanks. And I apologize for the "Mormonism" thing, like I said, Im new. Haha. And thanks for offering help! Ill keep it in mind. =)

  • Its ok, it a easy mistake, you new so you difffenetly have a mistake.

  • Same here. I was baptized two weeks ago. It was a six month investigation. Lots of questions...but I got lots of answers and they made sense. So if you come across anything that causes you to doubt or scratch your head, let me know. I've probably had the same questions and I got past them all.

  • So am I!!!!

  • Be right back..........need to go get my hat and marbles.

  • *Smile*

    Proud to be a mormon.[LDS]

  • "*Smile*

    Proud to be a mormon.[LDS] "

that is one of the things I enjoy about the LDS religion. So many smiling members!

  • I'm very glad to be able to have a modern day prophet who can give us guidance to help us in this world. Joseph Smith was the first modern day prophet and after 170 years this advice that he gave is being recognized for what it is. Truth, and wise counsel.

  • big deal, i could have told you smoking was bad too! And there are actually many health benefits associated with coffee and tea.

  • "big deal, i could have told you smoking was bad too!"

    in 1830?

in the 1920's smoking was considered a cure for asthma!

the wisdom of God makes learned men foolish!

  • But now we know thats false, smoking is really bad for asthma. It closes your lungs futher.

And it makes learned men smater, the word of wisdom is recommend by doctors.[wacth the video]

  • wearefallingup,

"the word of wisdom is recommend by doctors.[wacth the video] "

so you would recommend following the word of wisdom?

  • Yes, of crouse I would, the things that are on the word of wisdom are good things to stay away from.

  • Not in the 1830's could you have stated that.......and the research is mixed on health benefits of coffee and black tea.

  • Over 150 years ago, that is even more impressive!

  • I send you prophets

  • Fast food is actually mentioned but not directly. But funny thing is most members of the church even the ones that claim to obey the Word of Wisdom don't exercise regularly and eat right. What's up with that? The Word of Wisdom does mention eating right and exercising, people.

  • Good point!

  • finally....science is catching up with religion :p

  • Did Joseph Smith and other early leaders follow the Word Of Wisdom ?

  • It became more binding with time.

  • joaoz what you mean is that they didn't follow it themselves. However that was to their detriment as I follow it and I can approve of it , especially no alcohol and tobacco.I'd like to see Macdonalds and kentucky fast food mentioned in an extension of the word of wisdom revelation as too many saints are dying prematurely.

  • I agree - they're pretty gross stuff.

  • Wrong, too many saints are not dying prematurely - that is what the non-Momron scientific studies show!

  • @ElderJoseph They are all just jokers.... so don't be fooled by this nonsense.

  • works for me

  • Yeah, just look at Gordon B. Hinkley. He's what, 97?

  • D: no tea..?

  • tea is bad

  • My grandfather died from cigarettes and my friend was killed by a drunk driver. I wish that more people would follow a health code like this.
